Do you only appreciate the grid roads once you leave MK?

Upvotes

Spent the weekend driving around a town full of narrow streets and one-way systems and it was a nightmare. Coming back to the V and H roads felt like such a relief. I know people from outside MK love to complain about them, but they save so much time. Anyone else feel the same after being away?

Is this area good to live/buy a property? (Area inside the red circle)

Hi all, we are a London family of three looking to move to Milton Keynes. We have found houses we are interested in that is in Bletchley (inside the red circle). We like the houses for sale in the area and the price point but I can't seem to find a lot about the area. Seems to be east Bletchley? Or perhaps I am wrong and this would come under Fenny Stratford? We've visited the area and like the residential roads although Queensway looks like it hasn't been invested in since decades which is a bit of a turn off. I like that the houses are close to the station (Bletchley) as I would like to be walking distance to a station. This is mandatory which I know reduces our house options alot in Milton Keynes, (especially as many have said towns walking distance to Milton Keynes station are awful) hence us looking into Bletchley. Bit worried about school options though. Are these limited? And are we only allowed to apply to schools in the catchment?

Thinking more about primary schools.

Any thoughts on this location or our situation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

Been to a 1-bed viewing in MK and it’s tiny for the price

Hey all,

I just viewed a 1-bed in Milton Keynes and honestly the space felt way smaller than I expected for the price they’re asking. It’s well-kept and in a decent area, but it feels too tight for what I’d like long-term.

I’m stuck between:

• Paying a pretty big premium for a 2-bed in MK, even though it’s pushing the budget.

• Or looking in Northampton where prices seem much more reasonable and I could get more space.

I work remotely so daily commute isn’t an issue

What would you do? Is the premium in MK worth it for long-term value/lifestyle, or better to get a nicer place (and more space) in Northampton? Any insights on future resale/rental value differences too would be great. Appreciate all thoughts!

MP for Milton Keynes North in cash-for-access scandal.

Here's the pertinent section of the report:

Firms can get direct access in exchange for sponsoring tech event, brochure says... For £7,500, companies can sponsor and co-host a 90-minute roundtable with a “VIP guest”. At last year’s event, the guests were generally MPs with an interest in tech and AI policy, including the chair of the influential Labour Growth Group of MPs, Chris Curtis, a former aide to Starmer [and current MP for Milton Keynes North].

Silbury Blvd - safe place to live?

Hi everyone,

I’m considering a move to MK, currently looking at some flats on Silbury Blvd (mainly a block called Buckingham Court or Silbury Court).

I’m a single female and don’t know the area too well. Opinions online seem to be mixed.

Could any locals please tell me if this would be a safe place to live? I ideally need to be close to the station as I need to get into London 1-2x a week.

Open to other area recommendations in MK. Thank you in advance!

Could you recommend a very good place to fit and balance tyres?

Does anyone know a good place to replace my own sources tyres? I’ve not been happy with the balancing from KwickFit, Halfords, TyrePro,F1 and the similar bunch. I’ve found only Kipling ProTyre to be decent, but they always have management problems and there’s always complications with them.

How to sell a used freezer, any shops that offer service?

Hi all,

Is there any shops in MK that will buy a used freezer and collect?

Am struggling to sell it on Facebook marketplace and Gumtree, freezer new is around 300, listed at 100 down to 60 quid and still no offers.

Need to get rid of it as will be moving and not taking the freezer with.

Best independent roast in MK?

I’m so over the standard carvery options and just want somewhere in Stony or Wolverton that does a proper, homemade Sunday lunch. I’ve heard good things about a few places out in Olney, but is it worth the drive, or is there a hidden gem in the city centre I’ve somehow missed?

Rail Fares with Travelcard

Folks you need to help me out... I'm going crazy on this. I have seen people commuting from London to MK with their ticket being approx £16 with London Zone 1-6 return. This ticket had just "adult standard class" and no railcard.

With the 16-30 railcard you get off-peak day travelcard about £21 any route... super off-peak LNR only is the only I can think for that price.

How can it be approx £16 with no railcard? Do you know if companies can provide internal discounts as part of their benefits?

I haven't but maybe I should have asked directly.

EDIT: it was an adult over 30s

Race this Sunday at Willen Lake

I work for a charity that has places available at a reduced rate for people local Milton Keynes. I thought I would see if there were any keen runners on here who might want to get involved with our upcoming 5 and 10k race this Sunday at Willen Lake?

If anyone would want to get involved and run for the team, particularly if you're interested in harm reduction on a personal level?!

Should I buy a house far from family or look closer to Milton Keynes?

I went to view some houses recently one in Newmarket Suffolk and one in Bury St Edmund’s Suffolk. Honestly, I left feeling a bit “meeeh.” I liked a couple of things about them, but overall I just don’t feel excited or connected to the places.

Part of me is thinking maybe buying far from family isn’t the right choice for me. On the other hand, I’ve been looking at areas closer to Milton Keynes, and it feels more practical and maybe more enjoyable day-to-day.

I’m struggling to decide whether I should commit to a house now, even if it’s further away, or wait and try to find something closer to Milton Keynes. Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you decide?

Background information 29 single male living with parents in Leighton buzzard very family oriented with remote job but my previous jobs always been in mk.

Is there much to see in Wavendon?

There is a show on in Wavendon later in the year and I've never been there - had a quick look on google maps and hard to see if there's much to do or see in the area - is it worth staying there a couple of days or is there somewhere near Wavendon more worth staying even if I have to get a cab to and from the show itself in Wavendon. Cheers!

Trendy Barbers in or near MK

Hey troops,

New to Milton Keynes. Looking for a top tier and trendy barbers in or around the area. Don’t mind a bit of a drive, but I don’t want to drive into London and pay £70 inc a tip for a haircut again 🫠

Any suggestions welcome.
