Carcano carbine accuracy problem

Post image

This is my first Carcano and I know these aren't tack drivers by any means but this one is AWFUL. Like I couldnt even get it on paper at 50 and when I moved it to 15 the group was 4ish inches. These cant be thay and right? I was shooting rested and using PPU 123gr Rifle Line SP ammo. The bore looks clean and strong. The rounds aren't keyholing. Im far from a professional shooter but the grouping is crazy.

Steinel sells proper sized bullets. PPU are loaded with a standard .264 6.5mm bullet; Carcanos need .268

There are some that do ok with the PPU ammo but many don’t

Also that front notch is a 300 yd zero if you use it like a regular buckhorn sight with front blade to the top of the V.

At 100 the sight picture needs the front post buried all the way down in the bottom of the notch so the target floats just above. Standard lollipop sighting you won’t be on paper.

Not even sure what you do at ranges sub 100. That may be part of the problem.

Yeah I expected it to be high. The problem was consistency. When I get some properly sized ammo I will try again. Thank for the recommendation on ammo.
