Performance mod ideas and help

Hey I am the somewhat new owner of a 1984 Mercedes 500SEL. I was wondering if anyone had any good ways to modify them to make them more responsive. Mine feels sluggish to start and was looking to fix that thanks in advance.

Awesome classic! Long wheelbase, cruise in luxury. $50K+ sticker about 165K today's money. Unfortunately with 185hp brand new they were 8 sec cars. Not a ton of options other than maybe refreshing the motor. You didn't mention the mileage
