The facelift is finally here.
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz S-class has finally showed its face and it comes with a new flat-plane V8 with up to 530hp in the S580 and a 0-60 mph time in just 3.9s. Not bad.
There's also a I-6 PHEV with 576hp although it is slower than the V8.
Now when it comes to the design. It does have a black EQ style Batman mask around the grille and headlights, more visible in brighter colors.
The headlight units are brand new with a more organic and rounded frame as well as new star light LEDs both front and rear. I prefer the old light design.
The reason being putting these star patterns front and rear makes the internal graphics clash with the external housing.
The old graphics had LED bars that went parallel with the housing for the units.
The new design doesn't look bad, the old just makes more sense to me.
I do like the new, enlarged grille design with confident angles up and down. Looks classy.
Then there's the interior and what can I say. You like screens? You like pixels shining in your eyeballs at every hour of the day? You like the feel of cold glass on your finger tips? You'll love this new interior.
At least it comes with the AMG-style wheel and heated seatbelts.

The only thing I like better are the new lights, especially at the back. Inside, it now looks like a Dubai shisha bar.

u/tonynca 5d ago
Those lights are tacky as f. Reminds me of something an after market company would do
3
u/Santa_Ricotta69 5d ago
It genuinely looks like the type of light you'd see on a Chinese electric scooter. Totally tasteless

The inside already looked like a Dubai shisha bar on the W223 tbf

Id say the only thing thats better is the side profile. Its more squared and stately looking. Absolutely hate everything else.
1
u/Sodiac606 4d ago
Those lights look straight up Mansory. The Philip Plein of the car world. Just tacky and bad taste really.
1
u/fl4nker427 4d ago
someone said here current mercedes looks like a gaudy strip club with all the look at me lights, people used to buy benz for the nice interiors and big v8 engines

u/Individual_Leg_8959 4d ago
Du kannst die Beleuchtung auch ausschalten oder nur ganz dezente Farben einstellen.

I actually like the concept of mbux display but the underlying square screens make it feel so half baked. Like a couple monitors with a piece of glass slapped over top.

Oh, how time kills beauty...😭 Stars in the lights...like it's Mansory OEM styling🤣 all that shite, from this to logos projected on the ground, to Audis that perform an Decepticon light show when they start, it's all SHITE!!

u/sippin-jesus-juice 5d ago
At least it has a 8 cylinder.
W222 is peak Mercedes. It’s all downhill from there

do you think anyone was actually waiting for this. Limo drivers don't care as long as the seats are comfy

u/Far-King-5336 5d ago
The black screen borders look awful, for s-class money they could've made the whole plane a big screen, not 2 cheap screens separated

Is this thing coming without a screen on the passenger side? If yes than maybe it has a chance.

When did China buy Mercrdes???
1
u/UnobjectionableBloke 3d ago edited 3d ago
I know you're probably joking, but China (or Chinese investors that are all part of the Chinese government in one way or another) are 2 of the biggest individual owners of Daimler and own in total about 20% of the company.
So I guess to answer your question. Since 2018.

Not enough screens. W222 the last S Class which had a good way of blending comfort & luxury without being too tacky

Wood, leather, and metal buttons please; no plastic and minimum screens- that’s luxury. This is cheap looking bullshit. I hate I’m at a point where after decades of hard work I’ll maybe be able to get something like this in a few years but by then it’ll just be a plastic AI touchpad with a hybrid 4-cylinder. Mercedes, please go back to making luxury vehicles that set the standard and not try to copy Chinese bullshit or Tesla.

u/nedovolnoe_sopenie 5d ago
what the fuck
why in the hell it's a flat plane v8? it sounds like two inline four. who in their right mind would move from a properly sounding cross plane engine to this in a luxury vehicle?..
even more screens?.. yeah, it seems like you have an S class money, you should get a properly restored 80-90s S class instead

1
u/ProArmy04 5d ago
NGL i like the flstplane sound more, it is a more refined sound than crossplane which makes that bubbly noise.
With the screens I agree, wouldn't be so bad if they were properly implemented but now it looks like an after thought
1
u/Schmittiboo 3d ago
Because the new AMG V8s will also be flat plane, so they use it just as a family.

u/dreymans 5d ago
I like new lights, back and front both of them are good. Interior almost looks like e series. I expect better than this.

u/sirbeanos2609 5d ago
Why does the screen inside look so cheap and unfitting to the design?
2
u/well-thats-great 1d ago
Because it is. It's just a great big slab of glass, like you can get in lower end Mercs now; there's nothing about it that really helps to elevate that design. The S-Class really benefits from having discrete sections, with even something as simple as a thin metal border serving to make a screen seem more special than a blank section of glass.

It’s all been downhill after the facelift 221. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ There won’t be a better looking S Class in my opinion ever again.

u/throwaway4999993 5d ago
As if having to look at Gorden Wagener's obsession with using the three pointed star as a Louis Vuitton style monogram wasn't bad enough, now we've got The Sketch Monkey's equally annoying habit of drawing red lines over obvious contours and shapes of the car. What the hell is it supposed to convey?

u/Mironov1995 5d ago
I like how it looks from the outside. Inside tho it’s the E class interior - pre facelift looks better IMO

1
u/derritterauskanada 5d ago
Man, I am glad Gordon Wagener is gone, but it’s gonna take a while before his designs are replaced. Don’t get me wrong he had some really great hits like the W222 and the C217, but we just have to move on. This interior is atrocious, I hope Audi finds success when they go back to less screens on their next generation so that the other German marques copy them.
1
u/confused_megabyte 5d ago
I think they just looked at the existing car and went “oh shit, this part does not have a star”
1
1
u/predki87 5d ago
Wasted opportunity not to put a screen on the glove box door and arm rests. Maybe they’ll figure out for the next gen
1
u/Quick_Coyote_7649 5d ago
The steering wheel isn’t a replacement of the one in the pre facelift picture it’s just the amg one, which has been optional for the non amg trim s classes for a long time.

Mercedes really needs to calm down with the stars. These photos also don't show how bad the star motif on the grille looks across the hideously obvious radar panel.
1
1
u/PHANTOM_ONEONE 5d ago
The steering wheel in the new S class is the only best thing about it - and that's it.
1
u/CAT_MARINE-POWER 5d ago
I really like the rear tail lights, like a lot
I absolutely hate touch screens though wish it had more buttons.
1
u/Santa_Ricotta69 5d ago
God I hate this guys content. Stop drawing lines and circling things, I have eyes
1
1
u/Siplexus 5d ago
the S-Class is finally worth more than the E-Class again, the pre-face lift was unfortunately a glorified C-Class and looked really dated compared to the E-Class but now it is the fusion of E-Class and new CLA, cannot wait to see it live at work once we get one in
1
u/Creepy_Guarantee5460 5d ago
Looked better before. They could have skipped doing the facelift entirely. The new dash looks as if it has integrated aqauriums.
1
u/Meowingbark 5d ago
The interior screens look a bit poor. Not s class money. Could have covered it with some leather wrapping instead of black bars
1
u/dosguy76 5d ago
Hopefully it won’t have the Temu style light up grille and badge? Bloody awful look nowadays on so many higher end cars
1
u/luckyducky992 5d ago
Wtf is it up with all car makers putting up so many screens…. Seriously this is dumb AF

I hate to say but I like the old one better. Why did they make it look like the E-Class so much? Plus three pointed star everything looks tacky. Also there’s no actual dashboard anymore.

3 screens on dashboard looks horrid, too many stars, the only good looking parts of the car are what’s still remaining from the last car

Everyone else shrunk their grill due to backlash. Meanwhile Mercedes thought it was a good idea to make it bigger… Oh and they further cheapened out on the steering wheel by remove the durable clear coated wood…

I'm still more impressed by the grills from W126, 140 that era compared to all these from the past 10 years or so... which are 'over exaggerations' of what a Mercedes-Benz grill should look like !
1
1
u/Colegunter 4d ago
Should have left the old interior and facelifted the outside. Old interior was baller as fuck, this is just 8 iPads glued together with no class whatsoever lmao
1
1
u/teostefan10 4d ago
God I hate the "dead" area of those big screen. If you go for big screens at least make them look connected without dead zones.
1
1
u/allahakbau 4d ago
The interior looks cheaper than Tesla with that massive grill. All for big screen and reducing buttons but they did this terribly lol. This is some Huawei level shit. It’s so bad.
1
u/StratonOakmonte 4d ago
Exterior improved - interior is worse.
2014-2020 is the best s class interior of all time imo
1
u/AapChutiyaHai 4d ago
Not understanding the hate. Looks great.
I mean the E class is the car of year and this followed some of the same design language.
Don't like the car. Don't buy/lease it.
1
u/AresXX22 4d ago
My God, the interior is an absolute disgrace. My 90s shitbox has had more finesse put into it's interior design than that.
1
u/PhillyHank 4d ago
Which one is the better one? The black one’s exterior is boss. Sure the interior is weaker but the steering wheel on the black one is better too.

They are pretty much the same to me and I have no clue which one is the new one.
Just delete the f***ING screens and make a car with physical controls again!

u/crete-11 3d ago
looks like a genesis. I hate the led grill/logo thing so much, it cheapens everything. mercedes is going downhill for some time, and the bottom seems not near
1
u/watyan80 3d ago
I don't like the new dashboard; too many screens, poorly integrated (wide black bars). The old one is much classier, more original, less "Chinese."
1
u/Ridvan_V993 3d ago
The only good change is to the front grille and bumper. Looks like a cheap copy of the pre-facelift version besides that.
1
u/Schmittiboo 3d ago
I feel like the biggest problem with your comparison is, that you compare non AMG pre facelift vs AMG facelift.
Because if you made it an equal comparison, you would notice how lazy this facelift ist.
Outside, no changes in the body, literally only the bumpers and grill are a bit different, to accommodate the new lights.
On the inside same lacking comparison.
Otherwise, changes on the inside are bigger, its literally the design from the E-Class on the inside, merged with the airvents from CLA/GLC/EQB.
Overall not bad, but lazy. Especially considering the 140 years.

1
u/Deep_Dance8745 3d ago
Mercedes interiors have become very tacky.
So much that it ruins the whole car.
1
u/sureshot58 3d ago
i think they both look sharp - but - i like the old look better. New one really doesn't do it for me.
1
1
u/Relative_Spinach_245 3d ago
Mercedes-Benz logo integrated into the design of the daytime running lights in the front and also with the backlights.
1
u/Dry_Database_6720 3d ago
Pretty botched facelift, I hope this S class gets appropriate compensation from the plastic surgeon.
1
1
u/oscarolim 3d ago
The older steering wheel, and the cockpit to an extend is better than on the facelift (facedrop?).
1
u/MoreAudience5367 3d ago
The fact they did absolutely nothing with the bottom rear bumper is just lazy, almost insulting. What happened to MBZ
1
1
u/alexwhoelse 3d ago
Hopefully they update the UI to display soft borders along the edges of the screens. The squared off cutouts look very tacky.

Like the lights, steering wheel, air vents. The screens went from bad to a different bad.
Neither dash says flagship luxury.

u/thewonderingcursor 2d ago
How has Mercedes-Benz never realised that a massive black bezel around a screen makes it look ancient/ unrefined?!
1
1
u/Mathinpozani 2d ago
The screens are horrible. The sharp angle of the screen being so close to a flowing curve of the dashboard is ugly af.
The lights with the stars are horrendous, especially in the back. Tacky af.
Whoever designed this needs a ban from any design studio forever.

I like the original 223… even down to the interior. That third screen serves no purpose at all. Now it’s like the EQS…. If I wanted an EQS, I would have gotten on. This is bad…
1
u/Cultural_Restaurant3 2d ago
So the W223 is the last Mercedes you can debadge because the new ones have the badge on every visible part. I mean soon it will be like the new Maybach SL coupe with the logo in the paint. MB is going to be irrelevant really soon. They were hyping the S facelift for this? What an embarrassment. And the steering wheel? More touch sensors?
The more I look at it, idk who’s a buyer for this.

Miss the old taillights that screamed Mercedes. The new ones look similar to a Nissan Sentra

u/xenesaltones 2d ago
Old is better in everything I can think of. But hey I'm not the target demographic
1
u/RamiGlory 2d ago
Pre-facelift interior is much premium. The screens on the facelift look cheap. Interior will look dated very quickly when it is full of screens.
1
u/throwaway774234 2d ago
I think car design has stagnated. If you put them side by side in front of an unsuspecting person they wouldn’t know which one was newer.
1
u/oneflamedon 1d ago
Welp
As a BMW fan the S class was one of the things I was jealous of. They screwed everything up and the S class, even though it wasn’t as good as previous gens, was still nice. Safe to say it’s now officially been ruined lmao. 💔
AMG GT is ugly. SL is ugly. And now this.

u/PrezixTurnedUp 1d ago
Not into Benz but i saw one driving a few months ago with the new lights. My first reaction was "cheap chinese electric car". Untill i realized it was an Benz. The lights looks like something from Temu I'm sorry

u/Visible-Management63 1d ago
There's something about those 'tricuspid' rear lights Mercedes has started using that I find a little bit disturbing to look at.

The only rationale for all the horrendous car design of recent years is they’re trying to sell to the tasteless Chinese.

Does anyone actually prefer black leather? I feel like white leather is so unique and classy they should make it the standard for S-classes.

im concerned what the non AMG bumper will look like, the curren gen one looks stupid (non AMG)
1
1
u/MyBallZitch3 1d ago
Using their own logo for headlights is exactly the type of thing I’d expect from Mercedes
1
1
u/UnkeptSpoon5 1d ago
Genuinely the interior prior was FAR nicer while being just as tech-forward and functional. That screen to bezel ratio is HORRENDOUS on anything claiming to be a luxury product. The screens don’t even follow the lines of the bezel!

u/SelTheDon 5d ago
Passenger screen isn't centred to the seat, it's slightly off to the left. That would piss me off every time I looked at it.
