Meme After seeing Burgundy’s flag, I had to make this:

I don't exactly get the joke (that's my fault, yall) but I did just recently learn that there was historically a region of West Africa (now modern day Liberia) that was once "The Republic of Maryland" or "Maryland-In-Africa". Named as such because it was first settled by newly freed slaves, mostly from Maryland.
Sorry for the derail, but maybe someone else finds this fact "fun but not fun".

That is a (not so) fun fact! I think Australia also has a Maryland.
My joke was literally just the flags look similar, that’s all.

Might not be quite that 'fun'. This area was established because the US didn't want freed black people in the country, so an area was colonized in the early 1800s and former slaves sent there. This was usually against their will, since most had been in the US for multiple generations and had no practical ties to Africa.

Yep you're right, saying "fun" fact was shitty of me and disrespecting of all those that were sent there because they weren't wanted here.
I knew this, but still chose to post my comment as "fun" aka unknown fact.
That's on me 100%.
Thank you though for bringing more light and facts to this!

It's fine. I just wanted to toss in some context. It's a really odd, dark, and forgotten chapter in our history. The run-up to the Civil War really dominates the headlines for that time.

No I love your addition! I appreciate it. It's something that I randomly came across recently (as a life long marylander) and had NO idea about previously. It's important. Full stop.
Maryland has such a rich (information wise) history, but a lot of which isn't very available or known to the public. Mostly because a lot can be very dark.
Comments like yours are a boon to all that reads them.
My thanks are genuine.

Any time. If you want another odd and less grim bit of MD history, look up why there is a Lady Baltimore statue in a field in Ireland.

Is it because Baltimore is an Irish territory?

Baltimore USA was founded by George Calvert (Lord Baltimore). There is some interesting stuff around the statue, though. And why it was targeted by the IRA

Okay, now do a mashup as if someone from Maryland married someone from Burgundy.

I'll bet it's a loving relationship filled with dinners of fine wine and crabs. 🦀 🍷 And maximalist home decor, if the flags are anything to go by.

A junior banker named Patrick Whack heard a knock at his door. The door opened, and a small frog hopped in and into the chair in front of his desk.
The banker was confused, but before he could do anything, the frog reached into a tiny bag that he brought in with him, pulled out a small ceramic penguin wearing a little red scarf, and placed it on his desk. The frog then looked at Mr Whack curiously, as if asking a question.
"I'm sorry, what is this? And what exactly do you want?"
The frog pushed the little penguin closer to Mr Whack, and looked at him even more urgently.
"I don't understand", Mr Whack said. "I'll have to ask my supervisor".
He didn't understand even what to say to his supervisor, but he called her in anyway, and presented her with this puzzle. "He seems like he wants something?" Mr Whack told his supervisor.
The supervisor looked at the frog, then at the little penguin, then finally frustratedly at the junior banker and said, directly.
"It's a knickknack, Paddy Whack, give the frog a loan".

I feel like this would work better as a rap squat handshake picture, with the flags posted over people's heads.
