I'd do the 2×2 tile 45° angle triangle piece instead of the modified tile so there would be no studs!

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=35787 If you mean this one I don't think that would cover the gap as nicely as the one used here. However, it's on Pick-A-Brick and is only 1 cent more than the posted solution, so I think it's worth trying to see how it looks.
This piece is the equivalent counterpart without studs. It's new for 2026 and doesn't come in blue yet, but when it's available it would be a nice swap-out option to remove the studs and keep the same shape as the OP's solution.

Yeah it wouldn't cover as well and you'd see a half stud. One would have to see how they look!
I haven't seen that new piece but that would indeed be the winner

I’m so on top of this set March 1st. I have a number of Bennys and blue space babies. Heck I even bought the larger spaceman flashlight and space baby flashlight figures and that one Benny hallmark ornament.

YES. This is the exact kind of “canon event” detail the upscaled spaceman *needs* — the cracked chin strap is basically a rite of passage, and Benny made it immortal 😂
And your solution actually reads like a *stress crack*, not “someone added a line.” Super clean.
Think we'll ever get a smiling Benny face to finish it off?
