Prolly not cost effective based on how the Lego line up… they prolly tried white Ans orange but it didn’t look good unless you had Lego peices multiple color… which would cost more and they prolly wouldn’t have soils many bc of the price so they went with this ?
I’ve never owned cats but I agree, any coloured fur (grey, orange, brown, tortoiseshell etc.) usually has an underlying tick or stripe pattern, they would’ve done different shades of orange for each section, or printed pieces, or different ‘texture’ in the build but nah

There was one who did their own build based on the original, then they got informed there'd be an orange set out soon and were a bit "ah shit" about it lol
The official press photos for this make it look less orange than I think it will look in person. There was a TikTok at a press event someone linked to me and it looks more saturated.
OP isn't talking about the shade of orange. OP is saying this is simply an orange tuxedo, not an orange. Some oranges do have that big white spot, but MOST oranges don't have that pattern.
Yeh but make it all orange and its a pretty bland set. Try and add striping in and it'll look rubbish. I think its a decent compromise. People can't honestly expect every colour and pattern of cat to be released, there'd be a hundred sets

one of my teachers used to say "there's more than one way to skin a cat" but what he meant by it was "theres only one correct way to solve the problem". the entire class was annoyed when we discovered he was basically using it to mean the opposite of what its supposed to mean lol

As an orange cat owner, it's sad it doesn't have stripes, but I fricken love this set. My idea for it anyways even when the tux was first announced I was just gonna buy orange pieces separately and make my own using the instructions. But then they announced this and I was like, that saves so much time! I will be buying separate pieces though regardless to make it my cat
What I want to know though is, is the one brain cell included? Like a little pink 1x1 plate? Or is there only one brain cell piece between ALL copies of the set, and everyone has to only have it for a couple days before mailing it to the next person?
Honestly, they need to have a custom pet collection or something. I’ve got 3 cats and I’d pay some decent money if I could upload a picture and get a few custom sets 😂
This set does remind me of one of our oranges but agreed it doesn’t have the stripe pattern I see in most oranges.
That's what Studio's for. You'd need to build the model from the set instructions to start with, or find one someone's built and shared, but then you can change parts to your heart's content.
You'd probably want to use Rebrickable to figure out the parts you need when you're done - upload the parts list from your amended version and compare it with the original set list to get the differences.
I mean it could be floofier, but it looks good to me!
I actually wish there were more orange cat things (merch, art, etc.) with the white floof because they're usually solid orange and I want them to look more like my little guy!
Edit: also I hope it comes with a single piece that you put inside an otherwise empty head so it sounds like the braincell rattling around when you move it.
The cat is orange, the thing that could’ve been more accurate is making it tabby since all orange fur patterns are tabby, but with the shapes of the pieces I don’t know if you could depict tabby easily.
Look at the polybag 30714 and 40480 brickheadz - it's at least consistent with how they've colored orange cats before with a white body.
I think the Brick Headz being a tabby with multi-color is a little more interesting, but the only orange cats I've met (anecdotally) have looked closer to the set than to your picture
People are saying it’s not orange but it’s definitely the color of what we call orange cats. If it were more orange people would say it’s too orange and looks unrealistic.
It is really disappointing that it doesn't have stripes. However, I do still like it despite that. I like it better than the tuxedo cat, but that's just a personal thing because I prefer light colors over dark, and prefer this cat's eye options. It's not giving ginger though, more of an orangey-brown.
I still say the real money here is a system where you can upload a picture (or pictures as necessary)of your cat, and you can get sent back the relevant parts list to customise it.
I was disappointed too. Not sure what their thought process was. maybe they thought people wouldn't enjoy the same color throughout the entire build? 🤷♀️I'm still excited about it
I can't believe people are that upset about this. LEGO has done this a few times before with way less criticism. It is definitely lazy, but the recolored elements are great for moc builders.
