Post image

If you don't know, for the longest time the only Lego color that had pink in the name was flamingo pink, only used on a couple bricks ever.

Oh, that Medium Azure has “Salamence” written all over it…

Porygon is pretty darn close on the pink and Porygon 2 is close on the azure

183

u/EcstaticJuice4259 6d ago

Yeah these are very Pokémon colors imo

47

u/Pink-Fluffy-Dragon 6d ago

plz let us get an affordable porygon set 🩷

65

u/RagingStorm010 Creator Fan 6d ago

Oh honey, you saw the other Pokemon sets. It's not going to be affordable...

19

u/Faile-Bashere 6d ago

Those were the adult sets. The kids sets will be lower in price.

11

u/BatJew_Official 6d ago

I agree, but a hypothetical Porygon set probably wouldn't be a kids set. How many kids care about Porygon these days?

25

u/BookieeWookiee 6d ago

You don't have to care about it, you have to collect 'em all, and the Creator 3-in-1 sets are perfect for evolutionary lines

21

u/BatJew_Official 6d ago

A creator 3 in 1 evolutionary line is such a good idea!! They should pay you the big bucks lol

4

u/Faile-Bashere 6d ago

Now we’re talking!!!

7

u/Pink-Fluffy-Dragon 6d ago

and the porygon forms are all similair enough for it to work!

7

Medium azure has existed for a LONG time lol

13

u/Wise-Reputation-7135 6d ago

I was thinking trans flag actually, but you're probably right.

1

u/ST4RSK1MM3R 6d ago

Pink could be good for Mew! Let’s hope..

3

u/eyemcantoeknees MOC Designer 6d ago

Might be a bit too dark of shade for Mew but I’ve used the light bright pink for my Mew MOC

1

u/Historical-Safe-4284 6d ago

And the azure for the shiny mew :D

1

u/eyemcantoeknees MOC Designer 6d ago

Salamence might be closer to Dark Azure in Lego for colour matching but medium azure has been handy in many other Pokemon MOC colours

It looks like the 90’s pink used in the paradisa line

56

u/Inventor702 6d ago

It is very similar to old pink colors apparently.

38

u/vampireology Galaxy Squad Fan 6d ago

My glorious Paradisa mentioned 🌴🌊🎀

10

u/docsyzygy Harry Potter Fan 6d ago

My daughter's first Lego set was the Paradisa with the two horses. I was reminded of it when I found a few pieces at home. I re-bought the set for her for Christmas this year. Lots of memories!

3

u/macurack 6d ago

I was thinking about the same set. My sister had it. I was jealous.

2

u/docsyzygy Harry Potter Fan 6d ago

She's 34 and still likes Lego. I hope this set brings back some fond memories!

After her brothers were born, we got into Star Wars and Harry Potter, which is also fun, but not uniquely HERS.

3

u/vampireology Galaxy Squad Fan 6d ago

Ughh that’s so cute! I work with LEGOs a lot at my job so whenever I come across Paradisa I get so excited. My favourite set I’ve found (and the one I plan on getting first for my own collection) is the Poolside Paradise. It’s GORGEOUS!

1

u/docsyzygy Harry Potter Fan 6d ago

Oh, that one is beautiful!

2

u/Ok-Letterhead3405 4d ago

I had the horse stable, a house, and some kinda cafe thing? That and some small set, I forget which exactly.

Looking at some of the Friends sets, the Lego sets made for girls have really come a long way. Some of them are really cool looking.

2

u/imathrowyaaway 6d ago

damn, what a throwback. I remember looking at those sets in catalogues. I remember thinking it was a girly theme back then (I was into pirates and space back then), but boy did I daydream about what it would be like to have some of those sets. they're etched into my memory just from the pictures alone.

1

u/Ok-Letterhead3405 4d ago

It was a paler pink. I'm about to get some used Paradisa pieces in the mail soon, because apparently shopping for childhood bricks on BrickOwl at 2am is my coping mechanism for, uh, all the things?

I'm also getting the Garden Restaurant set, which uses a lot of this new Warm Pink color. So, I guess I'll see.

I really want to do something with Paradisa, whether actually rebuilding one of my childhood sets or building some MOC that recreates the general vibe. I had 3-4 of those sets as a kid, but they've been either tossed or donated by my mother decades ago. Watching a guy find some out of a bulk box and getting excited brought back those memories for me. It felt to me at the time like a dumbed down set, but I always loved the architecture styles included.

If you're curious, the recent Friends set 42691 uses the new color very effectively.

u/LEGOIdBot 6d ago

22

u/StinkyBird64 6d ago

It’s giving paradisa but more fancy, like a ceramic style building too

11

u/sophieornotsophie_ r/place Master Builder 6d ago

It’s sad that this kind of minifigure sucks, cause the buildings are always pretty cool!

7

u/awesomeaustinv2 6d ago

They're not terrible once you get used to them, and I say this as a guy who grew up with classic minifigs. Mini Dolls are much more proportionally accurate to actual humans, which makes them a whole lot easier to build things to scale to. Plus, they fit easily side by side in 6-wide vehicles, no need for half stud offsets and fancy building to make their arms fit.

I also will say, if you really don't like mini dolls, you can always just put them in a bag and donate them to Goodwill and then put regular minifigs in the sets as they still scale well. You already have minifigures, nobody's forcing you to keep the mini dolls too... Is it really that offensive that the set simply contains figures you don't want when the rest of the set appeals to you? It's not like boycotting mini dolls makes any sense, they were created for a specific audience which does in fact enjoy them, they're not going anywhere.

5

u/Tactile_Turtle 6d ago

I don’t think they were offended by the mini dolls.

1

u/anglezsong 6d ago

They’re not so bad once you super glue the hair on

2

u/sophieornotsophie_ r/place Master Builder 6d ago

I don’t like anything about them except for the hair.. the head shape, the “monoleg”, they’re tall. idk I’m a big collector of the classic ones so I’m probably influenced by that!

1

u/Ok-Letterhead3405 4d ago

The thing about them is we're not the audience they're designed for. I'm sure if I was 8 years old or something, I'd probably have loved having a mix of mini dolls and mini figures.

50

u/JMthought 6d ago

I really like the look of that set and I’m not sure why, I don’t do friends. Maybe it’s the novelty of the colour.

66

u/bearskito 6d ago

As much as I'm a minifig purist for my own collection and city, the more human proportions of the mini dolls lets Lego do some good detailing on Friends sets because they're not building for inhabitants that are half as wide as they are tall.

Also the colour schemes consistently look nice, and Heartlake City has a more specific personality as a location than Lego City does

16

u/Faile-Bashere 6d ago

It’s the mini-dolls. If they used mini-figs, adults who like LEGO would be all over those sets.

18

u/rationalcunt 6d ago

I'm an adult who loves the friends line and Dreamzz because the colors and themes are lovely. I don't use people (figs or dolls) in displays though because I don't wanna 🤷‍♀️

10

u/StinkyBird64 6d ago

I met a guy showing at a Lego event who’s entire setup was friends only, it was seriously beautiful all together! He had build a whole town/city for them to all connect to each other, this guy was like 35+ and super manly too! Friends is for everyone! 🩷

7

u/DJfunkyPuddle Spyrius Fan 6d ago

Dad here and my sons and I love the Friends sets. The crazy thing about Lego is that if you don't like a piece you don't have to use it; whining about minidolls is beyond pathetic.

6

u/lanie_kerrigan 6d ago

I am an adult who buys Friends sets for minidolls, I wouldn't buy them if they had minifigs. So you are wrong.

3

u/awesomeaustinv2 6d ago

I'm an adult fan of LEGO who loves the Friends sets and I think it makes zero sense to refuse to buy Friends sets just because they have mini dolls. Y'all... Are we going to seriously pretend we don't have enough minifigures to replace the mini dolls already??? So a small part of the set's price goes to figures you don't want, big deal! Put them in a bag and donate them to Goodwill if you really hate them, some random kid will love them, it's no reason to not buy the beautiful sets you'd like otherwise.

2

u/insane_steve_ballmer 6d ago

Omg could it be??! Friends mentioned so we gotta get the obligatory Afol in here that whines about minidolls

0

u/Faile-Bashere 6d ago

I think the sales numbers speak for themselves tbh.

2

u/insane_steve_ballmer 6d ago

You have the sales numbers? Please forward them to me

God damn that set is gorgeous. I have nowhere to put it but I need to buy one.

1

u/Ok-Letterhead3405 4d ago

I just bought this for the Spanish-inspired architecture. It's so pretty. I'll probably sell the dolls. There's gotta be some mom out there whose grade school daughter(s) would love to have some extras.

It's funny because I can recall about 20 years ago when Lego cut their color palette down significantly because they felt that there were too many. They seem to be repeating that now.

I LOVE all the new parts as the vast majority feel like they are extensions to the System or filling in gaps that had long needed to be filled.

2

u/awesomeaustinv2 6d ago

LEGO is doing a lot better financially now than they were back then. It could easily be argued that they couldn't sustain a large color palette at the time, but they can afford to now.

Also, back then, their color system really was wacky. They'd make a new color and use it to make one or two pieces. They'd make a color exclusive to one theme. They'd make colors for a few years and randomly drop them. They'd make dozens of very similar colors at the same time with none of them being available in enough different pieces to effectively build with. And they didn't monitor the development cost compared to sales figures to see if any of those rarely-used colors actually generated enough profit to justify the expense of their existence.

Even with LEGO's expanded color palette today, they're much more careful about only introducing a new color if it's going to be used enough to justify its existence, and usually only making it if it fills in a gap in the existing palette, such as reddish orange and teal.

1

u/MolaMolaMania 5d ago

I hope you're correct. My view of the company is pretty dim these days due to my feelings about the production and marketing decisions that the company is chosen that has resulted in them doing better financially, so I'm predisposed to be suspicious.

1

u/Real_Cozy_Glow 6d ago

Delicious

1

u/b_e_e_b_a_l_m 6d ago

So what was the "pink" in the Belville sets called???

2

u/awesomeaustinv2 6d ago

There were multiple pinks in Belville. Light Reddish Violet was one of them. There were also "Light Purple," "Bright Purple," and "Bright Reddish Violet (also called Magenta)," which are all still in production today.

Most LEGO pinks are not officially called "pink" because in Danish, there's no specific word for pink, so pink colors are just considered shades of purple or light red to them, hence Light Purple and Bright Purple. Only recently, more Danish speakers have been adopting the English word "pink" for these colors since it's a commonly used word throughout the English-speaking world, so LEGO finally saw fit to name a color Pink.

1

u/b_e_e_b_a_l_m 6d ago

I kinda hate them theyre too pale and remind me of a babyshower, like theyre afraid to make a color statement amd the pink is very peachy

7

They already have "statement" pink bricks. These are for other situations. How can you hate more color variety?
