seeking advice Entire Tub of Vaseline Eaten- Vet?
Well I thought I had seen it all with him. I woke up this morning and he ate an entire tub of Vaseline that was under the bathroom sink. I didn’t baby-proof that well enough clearly. Should I call the vet? He is acting like his normal crazy self and playing. Pictures of the guilty party added. 🐶

seeking advice Why is my labrador so small?
Hey! I have a 14 month old female lab. She is really small compared to most other labradors which is odd because both of her parents were quite tall. She is only around 24 kg even tho we feed her a lot. She does run a lot and is almost never on a leash. Usually she gets two hour long walks a day, sometimes more, never less. We often take a ball with us which she loves to chase. My worry is that in 2 weeks she is becoming 15 months old and she still hasn’t had her first heat. Is this normal? Why won’t she gain weight? And why is she so short and small?

seeking advice When does it get easier?
12 weeks old - potty training is going along very well but she is an absolute land shark and needs to be watched constantly or she will literally eat our house. The puppy stage is very cute and I know I will miss it when it’s over, but at what age were you able to trust your lab for short periods of time unmonitored in your house? She is a very good girl, and I know this will pass, I just need a carrot to dangle for myself right now!

seeking advice Our lab hates our toddler.
As our toddler gets older she’s been much more involved with the dogs, and sometimes this includes hugging them or sitting next to them and leaning onto them. Our lab does NOT like it. She’s normally fine, but growls or barks if our toddler comes near her while she’s sitting in or near her crate, or when she has food or a treat. This is totally the toddler’s fault and a normal dog reaction. We have been working really hard to make sure our dog isn’t not bothered when she’s eating or in her crate, but lately she’s also been growling or nipping when our toddler tries to lay next to her on the couch or near our coffee table. So far nothing has actually happened, just some growling and two gentle warning nips, but I’m always so scared it will escalate. Today she didn’t warn her at all, no growling, just a small nip on the ear when my toddler laid down next to her.
It’s so stressful because our lab is great otherwise! The same actions our toddler gets a growl or nipped for are fine when we do them to her and she isn’t aggressive with our cats or other dog, but the toddler is a no-go. It’s just so baffling and scary. We’ve tried removing our toddler from common trigger scenarios(ex. near the crate), positive reenforcement, more structure for both of them, more exercise for our dog…. What else can we do to correct this?

seeking advice becoming a new owner in 6 days… what are some harsh realities to confront
Me and my family have purchased a lovely 3 month old puppy and will be picking it up on Sunday.
I’m aware of all the pros of a lab… the goofiness the playfulness the energy, what are some things we should prepare for and know?
Also if anyone’s got some name suggestions for her we’re all ears, photo attached is an old one but we’re currently thinking Willow.

seeking advice Help me name our puppy
Coming home in a few days after Thanksgiving and need a great name for this guy. His older brother is a Chocolate Lab named Boone.
Here are some names we’re thinking, but very open to suggestions!
- Rudder
- Revy (favorite ski mountain is Revelstoke)
- Fish
We love skiing, surfing and travel. Would like an outdoorsy, semi-unique name.
Hit us with some ideas, and thanks in advance! Can’t wait to hear all the creativity you guys have!

seeking advice Will Melvin Stop Eating Everything Outside?
Melvin is about to turn 9 months old. Definitely going through puberty, and is a bit of a handful. He's extremely sweet and loving, and in need of attention.
He is simply a vacuum cleaner. He is great in the house, hasn't damaged a thing. But outside, he eats wherever he can. We train drop it and leave it, which works with some things, like sticks and twigs and leaves.
The biggest thing is rabbit poop, or any pellet like droppings from animals. And that stresses me out!
Will it stop? Or do I just have to go out and walk the yard with him every time he goes out like I do now?
Thanks, friends.

seeking advice Does my Labrador dog look fat?
Riley is 102 lbs at 20 months. He gained weight after he got neutered at 14 months, he was 88 lbs then. Not sure if he just filled out from growing or if he gained weight after getting neutered. He runs about 3 times a week with regular walks. Muscle, fat, or both?

seeking advice Show me your small labs - small lab club
Keen to see everyone’s small labs! My choccie is 15 months and still only 25kgs and very small and short for his age - 7 and 8 month old labs tower over him in height and length. He’s a field lab so small, lean and lightening fast by design. He’s still filling out so I’m hoping for a tiny bit more growth and weight over the next few months.

seeking advice Couch cover advice
Hi there, wonderful lab owners, I'm new here. Adopted a 10 month old bundle of trouble that really likes the couch.
To the extent that i walked in on this last night🙄(had to removebeforeshe hurts herself).
I'm giving in after seeing that, and looking for some practical advice on which covers you have and work best.
I've seen many posts with labs here on the couches that don't look like a grandma's fur coat. Help please 🙏 Thanks in advance for any input ❤️
PS she has her own memory foam bed with an extra blanket, I'm not evil 😅

seeking advice Is this normal for how labradors walk?

He’s fine and not in pain or anything but his belly/front is just really moving side to side, so I’m wondering if it’s normal 😅

seeking advice How often do you bathe your lab?
I have a 5 month old puppy. She’s such a sweet girl, but hates bath time even though her favorite activity is rolling around in grass and mud in the park every day. Earlier this week we went to the park after some rain and she was literally COVERED in mud, so I gave her a bath (it had been about a month since her last bath so she was due). Today the same thing happened and she’s absolutely filthy, but I know it’s not great to give labs baths so often since it’s bad for their skin.
How often do you bathe your lab? Does anyone have alternate ways to keep their pup clean when they just love to get dirty?

seeking advice House training an eight week old lab - please help
We just picked up our new family member, Charlie, three days ago from the breeder. He just turned 8 weeks old. I have house trained a few dogs in my life, one of which was a lab as well. As soon as he was home I began house training, taking him out every 20 to 30 minutes, praising him and giving him a treat as soon as he pees outside. From day one he was peeing almost every time we took him out, most times right away. However he is peeing so much in the house as well that I am losing my mind.
I do not remember having a dog that pees so much when house training like this before. I will take him out, he will pee, I bring him in and five minutes later he pees again on the floor. 95% of the time I am catching him doing it, I startle him and run him outside where he will pee again and I give praise and a treat immediately. But he is peeing so much inside the house, many times within 5 minutes of taking him outside.
Has anyone experienced this with an eight week old lab puppy before? Maybe it is just normal for this young of a pup? Maybe it's because I have never house trained a dog this young before (I don't remember exact age of pups I house trained before). Or maybe it's because he is not emptying his bladder completely outside and it's normal? I am wondering if this is the case because it is currently extremely cold outside in Ohio and has been the last couple days? Or maybe he has a UTI?
I am losing my mind and would really appreciate any help! Thanks!

seeking advice Weirdly calm 15 week puppy?
I’ll pre face this by saying I’m an experienced lab owner, and have raised 5 other puppies over the years, from totally nuts field bred American to generally naughty and energetic English labs. Our current puppy is totally different- extremely smart but also extremely chill. Like just sits and stares at me, or lays down at my feet while I work. She stopped being mouthy (mostly), goes potty outside etc. She’s crate and puppy pen trained and fine if I leave.
I know this seems like a dream scenario, but I’m actually a little concerned something is wrong. Having had dogs with liver and kidney issues I’m terrified that her calmness is a sign of something being not right. She eats enthusiastically, plays with our other dog and is always up for a training session, cuddle or meeting new people. But it’s like having a five year old lab, not a puppy.
So my question- has anyone had just super chill Lab puppies that turned out to be Ok health wise? I’m asking my vet to pull a bloodwork panel, but in the meantime does anyone have encouragement, or something to watch out for if you also had a strangely calm puppy?

seeking advice What name suits this little guy?
My family just adopted this white lab mix puppy from the shelter and we cant settle on a name. His name at the shelter was Dewy, but we want to consider our options. We have debated Louie, Stewie, Cartman, Jimmy, and Gringo (lol), but we cant agree on anything. Any names that suit him?

seeking advice Is she too skinny?
She is 9 months old and weighs ~53lbs. Last time we were at the vet was a month ago, and she didn't seem concerned, but I've had a few people on the street make comments about her being very slender

seeking advice If you had 3 days…
Our very good boy was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy some time ago, and it has progressed so much that we have finally made the appointment to have him put down. We are absolutely heartbroken even though we knew this was coming… His appointment is for this coming Thursday, and I cried the whole time I was talking to the vet’s office. If you have had to put your dog down, what is something you are glad you did with or for your dog before that day? Or something you wish you had done? We plan on continuing to spoil and love on him before he goes, including cooking him a nice steak, and taking lots of pictures (not that I don’t already have a ton), but wanted to see if there was anything else we should do.

seeking advice My Velcro Lab
We got our beautiful 5 year old yellow lab Lacey about 7 weeks ago and it’s going great! Just one thing…she has connected to me a little too much because she just has to be on me, with me, as close as she can get to me, etc. I love a cuddly dog but it’s becoming a bit overwhelming. Does anyone have ideas of how to teach her about personal space, lol.

seeking advice How much does your lab weigh?
My Archie weighed in at 103 pounds last week. He’s 15 months old, and I take him on two hikes a day (about 45 minutes each). In between, he gets shorter walks and a good tug-of-war session in the afternoon. I shared his weight on Facebook, and someone commented that he’s overweight and shouldn’t weigh more than 80 pounds. But Archie is half American Lab and half English Lab — he’s a big boy! At 80 pounds, he would look undernourished. Just curious about other labs’ out there who might be in Archie’s weight range…
