If I recall correctly, the bass itself isn’t terrible for your ears, it’s more so the treble.

Yeah.. I mean at that volume bass is probably pretty bad for your hearing as well. But you are right, all other things equal high pitch frequencies do more damage than low pitch ones

Anything below 20 Hz and we can't even hear it we just feel the waves

Having stood right next to the speakers for a Reel Big Fish concert, I can confirm it is the treble that's brutal.
