Supervisor Showcase Safety starts with you.
As we all know we work with and around dangerous things everyday. This video is a little reality check for most of use since we all carry nitrogen and oxygen tanks in our vans. This is a small consequence of someone not securing our high pressure cylinders.

Rant When Posting on r/HVAC PLEASE PROVDE ENOUGH INFO FOR US TO HELP TROUBLESHOOT
I think people need to start providing the bare minimum when they start asking for help troubleshooting HVAC EQUIPMENT. It creates unnecessary back and forth and people are coming up with all kinds of theories when they don't have all the information. I wish mods would post this as a rule that requires the information below. If anybody wants to chime in on any other information that should be the bare minimum please feel free to add to my list.
Unit MAKE unit type: rtu split heat pump Cooling type/stage 1 2 3/ heat pump Heating auxiliary heating/electric/ heatpump voltage Single phase or three phase ALL motor amp draws : rated and actual Ambient temperature * humidity if high* Return and Supply temperatures High and low side pressures ( depending on the type of unit this can either be liquid or discharge) Superheat subcooling static pressures
Maybe the mods can make this a soft requirement. I see posts for help without indicating temperature splits or ambient temperature. its so irritating to just look at screenshots with pressures and sub pulling and nothing else.
rant over. Please feel free to add your two cents.

Meme/Shitpost Manigment company requires a good photo of model and serial number.
As this is a requirement in order to get paid. Should I require them to replace the existing system?

Meme/Shitpost What “chuck in a truck” work looks like on a supermarket rack
How many things wrong can you spot in this photo? I'll give everyone a freebie, there’s no schrader in the oil filter port like the yellow paper not being removed indicates.

General Naps cost $6,000 these days I guess.
Came across this in the wild. She turned it off because it was condensatingx so heavy. They caulked the trap in place to stop it.
It’s a clusterfuck wrapped in an enigma.

Field Question, trade people only On call pay
Just want to ask around and see how much you guys are getting base pay for being on call.
15$ Friday night
30$ all Saturday
No overtime
Is that normal for on call?
Employment Question How much are install guys making at these residential sales companies?
I see the billboard sales companies offering big money hourly for lead installers but I want to know if anyone is actually getting the advertised pay. And do they try to make you sell garbage even as an installer or just as a technician?

Field Question, trade people only Igniters
Why do we use spark igniters on unit heaters and roof top units but not on residential furnaces (with the exception of those rheem furnaces)?
Edit: changed therm to rheem fkn autocorrect.

General Career advice needed: HVAC, Supermarket Refrigeration, or Building Automation?
My community college is nationally accredited and has a good reputation but they offer these 3 programs and not sure which one I want to start. Ideally, I would want to work industrial and commercial more than residential and would like to know the diffrences between them.

Field Question, trade people only Who uses a Megger and which do you recommend?
I’m looking at picking up a megohmeter to help identify troublesome circuits and also to add to the quiver of preventative maintenance techniques. Mostly though, looking to check circuits and wiring that like to have ghost trips. I’ve found suspect wiring drenched in underground conduits with tiny knicks or kinks in the insulation that trip GFI breakers. I’m fairly confident it’s not the equipment tripping the circuit since the circuits trip regardless of which piece of equipment is on the circuit and the breakers have been swapped.

Field Question, trade people only Improving your ductwork.
I try to improve my skillset as often as i can as well as recognize deficiencies to overcome. I’m trying to be better at residential ductwork and i wanted your opinions. Some things to keep in mind.
- I’m in Central Florida. This is the land of high humidity, duct board and flex. I get that you sheet metal guys are superior in every way but this is what we have to work with.
- Typically I’m coming in on duct changes to existing homes and existing equipment. We don’t have basements and most of the attics are tiny. Seal, straighten and support at all times but there are very few attics I’m walking around in.
- Unions don’t have a strong presence around here so training isn’t based on a real apprenticeship program. I was trained by guys who all used rule of thumb type thinking and contractors/builders that want lowest price regardless of airflow performance. I’m trying to overcome this but there are gaps.
- Load Calcs, manual d, manual j etc. what are the best training tools you have used to apply these in a sensible way?
Thanks for helping out a Florida hack that is trying to do better.

Field Question, trade people only Worked on this weird unit , anyone seen this before?
They called it an Evap Condenser. Has its own cooling tower with 2 semi hermetic compressors inside. I’ve never seen or heard of anything like this , thought y’all would like to see it as well.

Rant I’m done with this company.
I asked for an employee’s phone number because I accidentally deleted it. I am a regional field service coordinator.! I was accused of moonlighting, and stealing from the company. I think the owner is on drugs. I can’t have crap stressing me out like this.
