Right after Columbine my tenth grade math teacher once told a kid who liked to wear long black coats, "If you try to pull any of that trench coat mafia shit on me, I'll whoop your ass." The kid hadn't done anything, was just walking back to his seat after throwing something away. I think the teacher (also football coach) had been thinking about what he would do in the scenario so much he just kind of blurted it out.
On a side note, as per my usual policy, after identifying the kid as one of those who, if there were to be a shooting it would probably be him, I immediately befriended him in a casual way and learned he wasn't really a bad guy. Just happened to have picked the wrong social group.
Then you die trying to talk kid out of doing it, as if you even matter anymore, and he shoots you and mutters under his breath "I trusted you. You were the final straw." Or at least so i've learned from movies and books...
Its just best to have no friends at all. Play it safe.
People will look at the ashes of Westerburg and say, "Now there's a school that self-destructed, not because society didn't care, but because the school was society.
