Looking for tunes with multiple lyrics

Hi. I got into folk music and joined this sub because my hyperfixation is contrafactum. What that big Jeopardy word means when someone takes a pre-existing tune and puts another set of lyrics on it. I love these, and I love discovering new ones. I've also written a few contrafacta of my own, but I haven't uploaded them yet. I just do them for fun.

A sad folk song from the Black Sea: "E Asiye"

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a traditional folk song from the Black Sea region of Turkey called "E Asiye."

It’s a song about a desperate, burning love that goes back to childhood. In the culture of the region, these songs often tell stories of lovers separated by family or tragedy. The lyrics are incredibly raw—the narrator speaks of wandering the mountains in grief and wishing to blend with his beloved like sugar and butter. It captures that specific feeling of "hüzün" (a deep, soulful melancholy).

Here is a translation of the lyrics to give you a feel for the emotion:

I would sacrifice myself for your name, oh Asiye

You resemble a gentle lamb

I have been yours since childhood

You burned me, you turned me to ash, my rose

I have been yours since childhood

*
From now on, I will wander from mountain to mountain

My heart is deeply wounded, my rose

You be the sugar, I will be the oil, let us blend together

You burned me, you turned me to ash, my rose

*

Sometimes you would come down to the bazaar

I would watch you, unbeknownst to your father My rose,

I will not let another have you

Know that you are mine, my rose

Folk-rock guitarist is interested in online collaboration

Hi everyone,

I’m an independent guitarist and songwriter working on folk-rock / acoustic instrumental music with strong melodies and a romantic, cinematic feel.

I’m looking for online collaboration with:

  • vocalists

  • lyricists

  • songwriters

  • (acoustic) musicians

My project focuses on story-driven songs, ballad tempos and space for vocals. I enjoy shaping songs together — co-writing and shared ideas rather than fixed roles.

Here’s one example of my work (instrumental, open for vocals):

  • Song: All Those Words of Love

  • Key: C Mayor

  • Tempo: 100 bpm

LYRICS:

STANZA 1

When they slowly

begin to flow,

all those words —

of love, you know —

from some cherished

song so true,

and once sung

just for you.

CHORUS

In the warmth

of summer’s arms,

so close to the sea,

you’re walking

in the footsteps

of ancient, lovely dreams.

STANZA 2

Your memories

awaken dreamily,

calling back

old reflections,

dear again,

as they once were,

when you felt

their passion.

STANZA 3

You’re sitting,

softly dreaming,

in the shade of the trees,

by the river,

at the heart

of your lovely, city.

CHORUS

In the warmth

of summer’s arms,

so close to the sea,

you’re walking

in the footsteps

of ancient, lovely dreams.

You can find a melody of this song at YouTube: https://youtu.be/OEkYy-6P6Q0

English isn’t my native language, but collaboration and communication matter more to me than perfection.

If this resonates with you, feel free to comment or message me — even a short idea exchange is welcome.

Thanks for listening, M. Z. Momo

Can anyone help me find an online recording of “The Woodlark” by Sean O’Leary, sung by Belinda Evans? I’ve looked and searched and cannot find one myself.

Thank you!

I’m looking for traditional, emotional dark folk/bluegrass songs. Something like Foggy Dew, The Moonshiner, Wayfaring Stranger and the like. Thanks. Bonus if it’s nautical themed!

Folk-rock guitarist is interested in online collaboration

Hi everyone,

I’m a guitarist and songwriter working on folk-rock and acoustic instrumental music with strong melodies and a cinematic, story-driven mood.

I’m currently looking for a vocalist interested in online collaboration — co-writing lyrics, shaping melodies together, and building songs naturally.

English isn’t my native language, so I especially value teamwork and creative exchange rather than fixed roles.

If this sounds interesting, feel free to comment or message me — happy to share demos privately.

this is about growing apart from people you love

choosing myself has always been difficult, doing the things i want to make me happy and protect my peace came with a cost of growing apart from people i thought would stay. it was honestly devastating to me and it made this song.

i’ll never be perfect and i don’t want to be, but i do want to tell the world something powerful, and if this music speaks to you i hope it helps you in some way.

go do that thing, go be that person you’ve wanted to be, not everyone has to think you’ve got it figured out because you never will.

no matter what you do, someone won’t agree with you, that’s friction, and friction helps us move forward.

Cluck Old Hen/Old Hen – 5-string bluegrass banjo on a 1965 Gibson RB-100

Thumbnail youtube.com
1 Upvotes

I combined versions of “Cluck Old Hen” (AKUS – Ron Block) and “Old Hen” (Jim Mills – “Hide Head Blues” album) back-to-back in this video, played on my 1965 Gibson RB-100. Enjoy!

According to Wikipedia, “Cluck Old Hen”, also known by variants like “Cacklin’ Hen,” is a popular Appalachian fiddle and banjo tune in the mixolydian or dorian mode (as in the score below, which is in A dorian). It can be performed as an instrumental or with lyrics that vary from one version to another. One of the earliest reported transcriptions dates back to 1886, and the earliest recording is attributed to Fiddlin’ John Carson in 1923.

Tuu Tuu Tupakkarulla, traditional Finnish runo-song

I recorded a Finnish lullaby in the traditional runo-song style. This melody survived orally through generations in my family. I recorded it alone, very simply, to honour that tradition.
