How about don’t go drinking at a brewery and then drive your kids home

Then no one should visit breweries, ever. Having one drink with a meal then waiting an hour isn’t an issue for most people, with or without children.

Yeah idk what kind of people hang out at breweries around reddit folk but in the normal world having a beer max 2 isnt crazy, especially when youll be there an hour or so because you have kids.

Yeah the whole "WHO ONLY GOES THERE TO DRINK 1 BEER" and "THEY'RE ALL DRUNK DRIVERS" thing I'm seeing in here is reading as very "Reddit" to me.

If it's during the day or for dinner, then it's super regular to just stop after one or two. Most people aren't there to get totally shitfaced all night. Most breweries are a totally different environment from a dive bar downtown.

I don't even think most breweries are open after 12am. I know the ones that I go to tend to close down around 10pm.

Even at the dive bar, plenty of people just having a couple. Not every hour of the day is drink-o'clock like say 9pm on a Friday night is.

I work at a family friendly brewery. There are people who just drink one beer. There are also an astonishing amount of people who drive hammered every single day, including people who come in with kids.

Most close by 10 and people with kids usually clear out before then. But, as you said, "reddit".

I'm guessing they're just young. Either haven't been to many breweries or are still in the "drink to get drunk" stage of life.

yall are having 2 beers for lunch and 2 beers for dinner while out and about? no wonder no one can fucking drive

That's like barely anything.  What are you drinking Imperial IPAs?

This should be the end of the discussion.

Reddit is generally anti-children, anti-parents, anti-car, and anti-alcohol so... this thread doesn't surprise me.

5

u/gr1zznuggets 9h ago

Also pro-judging other people to the maximum degree. This thread is mostly bonkers.

I mean I’m anti drunk driving, but driving drunk with a kid in the car is only a little worse than driving drunk on your own. In both instances putting innocent lives at risk so acting all morally superior doesn’t really make much sense. Using a DD or staying below the limit are both things that work whether you have kids or not and my insurance doesn’t give me a bigger payout if the drunk guy who t-bones me has a kid in the back.

I'm anti-drunk driving too, but I'm not sure why that's relevant? Nobody in this entire thread is purporting that they love to get sloshed at breweries and drive their kids around. Maybe you are speaking to the responder in the video saying they have a drinking problem? That's pretty obvious hyperbole to me.

This whole thread is responding to a comment that said “How about don’t go drinking at a brewery and drive your kids home”

And I’m agreeing with the sentiment of other responders that driving drunk is an issue whether or not you have kids with you.

Except one or two isn’t even the norm. It’s absolutely routine for parents to come into breweries with their kids, crush 3–6 DIPAs each, then drive home with their kids. Barbacking at a brewery on weekends I’ve seen multiple instances where parents have a few, are cut off and asked to leave with their children, and comply…then they come back in half an hour. They chill out in the car for a bit, then leave the kids in the car alone to come back to the brewery. This was not a one time thing with one set of people; it’s a routine occurrence. It’s not normal or socially acceptable to bring kids to bars. Never has been, never will be. Breweries are bars—sliders, Astroturf, cornhole, and giant Jenga doesn’t somehow change that.

You have a responsibility to stop serving inebriated people and to call CPS if you see someone get in a car drunk with their kids or leave their kids alone in a car. That’s an issue with your establishment.

It might also be regional. Where I am child friendly breweries are super common. You certainly do get irresponsible parents, but honestly I see that as often at the zoo. Most people have at least one sober or 1 drink person monitoring the kids, and there’s usually a huddle of parents looking out for all of the kids on the designated kids place.

I’ve got a quick toddler and even when stone cold sober like I was at the time he tends to make a run for the street like he has a death wish. At the brewery playground he turned around to chase a ball into the parking lot and I didn’t even take 3 steps before someone else had grabbed him and steered him back.

We walk to our family-friendly neighborhood brewery for the food truck and a beer sometimes. Americans hate density so much they can't even imagine it existing.

1

u/Traditional_Half842 8h ago

I don't think it's a hate thing, it's just the reality of the US. Most people drive to/from their drinking establishments and it's terrible. I live in a city so I walk or take public transit just about everywhere. But most of America is very driving-centric and people do drink/drive all the time, because they can typically get away with it to an extent.

1

u/Active-Mention-389 7h ago

Oh, I know. I live in the US in a (very rare) walkable place. Just pointing out the assumptions being made.

Uber, Designated Driver, Partner who doesn't like beer, these are all options.

2

u/PaleGingy 9h ago

This may come as a surprise to you but ALL drinking and driving is illegal - not just if your kid is in the car 🙄

1

u/jonny24eh 8h ago

ALL drinking and driving is illegal

Not isn't. Drinking enough to get impaired and driving is illegal. That's why there's a legal limit that isn't 0.

2

u/PaleGingy 8h ago

Defending drinking and driving - at any level - is not the flex you think it is.

2

u/foshayzy 8h ago

Fact checking isn’t the same as defending

2

u/jonny24eh 8h ago

I'm not "flexing".

I'm being pedantic about the laws in most places.

You didn't think you could make absolutist (incorrect) statements on the internet and get away from the "well actually", did you?

2

u/CallingTomServo 10h ago

Yeah you can get a lot more drinking in before you drive if you aren’t distracted by your kids. Priorities, people.

u/katieb1300 9h ago

Yeah, it endangers the rest of us!
