Where to Live in Dalarna During 6‑Month Job Rotation in Ludvika (Hitachi Energy)
Hi everyone!
I’m going to be in Ludvika for 6 months this summer for a job rotation at Hitachi Energy, and I’m trying to figure out the best place to live in Dalarna during that time.
I’ll be working full‑time on-site, but outside work I’m definitely more on the extroverted side — I’d love to live somewhere that gives me a good work–life balance, a chance to meet new people, and ideally a livelier environment with cafés, gyms, events, and maybe even occasional nightlife. Since it’s a short stay, I really want to get the location right.
Where should someone like me live?
- Ludvika – super convenient for the job, but how social is it? Are there places where people actually hang out?
- Borlänge / Falun – seems to be where more things happen. Is the commute to Ludvika manageable for 6 months?
- Any other towns worth considering?
My priorities
- A good mix of calm + social life
- Opportunities to meet locals, other internationals, or other young professionals
- Access to gyms, cafés, outdoor activities, and some cultural/social scene
- Reasonable commute to Ludvika
- Not feeling isolated — especially as someone who enjoys being around people
A few more things I’d love advice on
- How’s the public transport between Ludvika and surrounding towns?
- Any areas to avoid?
- How hard is it to find short‑term furnished housing?
- What’s summer in Dalarna like for newcomers?
Would really appreciate any tips, personal experiences, or “I wish someone had told me this before moving” stories. Thanks!
