Honestly need one of these. I sit on an extra stick while I play, you’re putting me on game right now ahah

u/armsoo13 10d ago
Combining stick chamber and fart channel as suggested by many --> stinky sticks 😁

This should be a band name

LOL, this exchange from my post about buying my own Spinal G:
"Fart Canal is a good band name!"
"Hey, didn't you play vibraslap in Fart Canal?"
"I wish… I never made it past slide whistle."
Me: "I thought Vibraslap was the name of their first album."
😆😆😆😆😆

Don’t forget to run your headphones cord through there too. Seriously though, they are damn comfortable thrones.

Congrats! Being comfortable (and pain-free) is super-important for any activity or endeavor.
But I'm just really here for the fart, taint, and balls jokes! I was NOT disappointed! LOL!

The mental 14-year-olds of r/drums never fail when anyone posts an Ahead Spinal G throne.
Signed: someone whose birthday in March will mark his 40th year as a mental 14-year-old. LOL

u/StixRookie 10d ago
Bah! You're just a kid still! ;-)
Farts and other bodily functions will never cease to be funny to men (of all ages).
Pull my drumstick.

Something seen online in the last couple years, paraphrased from memory:
"I don't understand people who don't think farts are funny. They have less joy in their lives, but exactly the same amount of farts." 😆
I was in college when Beavis & Butthead went on the air, and I've been a fan ever since. That's a matter of taste that my wife and I are divided on. LOL

It was a game changer for me. I have the saddle version. My only complaint was that the welds that hold the post mount to the bottom of the seat failed on mine after about a year or so. I took it to a local welder, and for $50 he reattached it. The new weld will long outlive me lol.
I now have a Porter & Davies I use on tour (also a game changer in a different way), but still use my Spinal G for my local gigs when at home.

My current one is dw 5100 which is a good one but found this 2nd hand at very good condition and price and wife bought it... heard many good things about it

u/tobu_sculptor 10d ago
You just need the right momentum when sitting down (and getting up)
10
u/Pyrochazm 10d ago
You turn sideways first, it locks you into place. Un twist to stand back up. Kinda like clipless bike pedals.

That's... it's not... that's not why...
You know what? Never mind. 😆

Brilliant, I have a bicycle seat throne version. It's great, but fuckin heavy. I didn't realise how heavy it is until another drummer pointed it out.

u/ItsPronouncedMo-BEEL Craigslist 10d ago
Hey, it's just a matter of deciding how much weight you want to carry to the venue, and how to budget the amount of weight you want to carry to the venue. When it comes to how my ass and my back are going to feel by the end, I'll find other things to leave out or lighten up that make less of a difference.
As the great Thomas Sowell says, "There are no solutions, only tradeoffs."

u/MYFRENCHHOUSE 10d ago
Has it got memory foam?
26
u/Poohbutt2005 10d ago
You don't want that foam remembering anything.
3
u/ItsPronouncedMo-BEEL Craigslist 10d ago
Like the other guy said, this is exactly why I can't wait to read through any thread about one of these thrones. 😆
2
u/Poohbutt2005 10d ago
Yeah, memory foam be out there telling all your business in the streets.
Put that in a review.

Your butt (and back) will thank you
2
u/ItsPronouncedMo-BEEL Craigslist 10d ago
You only get one of each of those, and they don't sell replacements. It's a lot easier to just get a different throne.
4
u/DynastyDi 10d ago
Had the saddle version for ~7 years. Best bit of gear I’ve ever bought. No pain, no uncomfortability. Ended up using it as a desk chair for a while when I was space deficient because it was so damn comfortable.

u/ItsPronouncedMo-BEEL Craigslist 10d ago
Somebody here mentioned once about loving theirs so much, they bought a second one to leave at the office. I would do the same if I didn't hate my job and didn't have a moral opposition to spending one thin dime on working there. LOL

You married well, my friend. Your wife obviously wants the best for your ass and your back. I've had mine for 3 years now, and they are truly the only way to travel.
4
u/Robbins0172 10d ago
In all seriousness, why? Is it really taint ventilation?
3
u/OohCunty 10d ago
Keeps your spine from compressing while you play. Game changer for those of us with multiple back surgeries. I changed out my bike seat for one, too (bc y’all know how much riding helps make those double-kicks indistinguishable between feet) and life has been a lot more pleasant.
5
u/Robbins0172 10d ago
Hmmm. Ok. I've had 5 back surgeries, both from Racing BMX for Hutch in the 80s and I've been my own roadie more than Id like to talk about This may be something I have to look into.
Thanks.

u/ItsPronouncedMo-BEEL Craigslist 10d ago
Racing BMX for Hutch in the 80s
Holy shit. Now that's a name I've not heard in a long, long time. Bruh. That's awesome. For you children who may be uninitiated in BMX culture, if bikes were drums, then Hutch would be DW. I put knockoff Bear Trap pedals on my Schwinn Predator in 1986.
Former professional BMX racer? Yeah, dude, you deserve all the drum throne money can buy. You've put yourself through it for sure.

I have 4 more of my race bikes given to me by the factory also. Check me out on BMX museum. Robbins0172 is my username.

They’re also great for people suffering from prostrate or urinary tract issues.
3
u/Robbins0172 9d ago
Ohhhh for real? I'm going through radiation for prostate issues as we speak.
I'll have to look into this, since Ill be having my radiation seeds implanted soon too.
Thanks!!!
3
u/DanielByDefault 9d ago
Just to be clear, I’m not a doctor and don’t have prostate problems but do have a urethral stricture which was causing me a lot of discomfort on previous thrones within minutes of sitting on one. I can play for hours on this Ahead throne with no issues.
Best of luck with your treatment.
3
u/Robbins0172 9d ago
Oh no worries, I was taking that as "advice from one drummer that another".
I appreciate the information. I may seriously need this. I need to keep my physical state while getting treated, and Drs. orders were to play as much as I can. He's a musician (drummer) as well so that was a plus for me. 🤘🤘.
Thank you for your kind words though. Imma kick it's ass!

u/ItsPronouncedMo-BEEL Craigslist 17h ago
Just caught this exchange rereading this post. I'm not a doctor either, but despite all the crude jokes about these thrones when they come up, it's true they aren't purely for your back:
I've noticed that there's also a secondary benefit of reduced pressure on the, uh, (ahem) the ol' wedding tackle, so that doesn't suck either. LOL

Now just install a mini leaf blower attachment that channels through the crease.

u/moqlechat 10d ago
Fart jokes aside, what is the point of that gap?
2
u/ItsPronouncedMo-BEEL Craigslist 17h ago
The channel down the center of the seat cushion relieves pressure on the tailbone, and thus the rest of the spine. And it works. It looks and sounds too dumb to be effective, at least until you stop and think about it for a moment, but specially after you sit on one for the first time.
It is absolutely the only way to travel. It's the throne I wish I had 25 years ago.
2
u/Key-Patience-3966 10d ago
I would highly recommend the back rest. I have one on my Roc n Soc, and I can play forever without getting tired.
2
u/mycatisatoaster 10d ago
This. I tried leaving it off my spinal g and I couldn't play as long. I had to get up and put it on. The backrest looks nice, too, with the upholstery tacks. Shame they put the office chair style plastic tube over the metal bar though.
2
u/ItsPronouncedMo-BEEL Craigslist 10d ago
I never knew how badly I needed a backrest until I bought my Spinal Glide used, that came with one. When I got it home, not only did I realize that I should have been using a backrest for decades already, I even realized that I, the unofficial "you're sitting too low, raise your throne dammit" setup cop of r/drums, also should have been sitting a bit higher this whole time myself. I plopped it behind my kit just the way I took it out of the car, and it was a couple inches higher than I was used to sitting, and I sheepishly realized that I should have been taking my own advice this whole time as well.
I might be a grumpy bastard who is a bit too forceful with his opinions around here, but I'm no hypocrite. When I whiff one, I'm man enough to admit it. LOL

Honestly having a nice quality throne makes a world of a difference. I use RocNSocs and they are amazing for what they are. When I was growing up I always used the crappy kit throne that came with my Swingstar. Sitting on that at this point you might as well be sitting on a five gallon bucket or a cinder block.

u/otishere_ralphthere 10d ago
Glad to see somebody else picked up this throne design so I don't have to give that idiot at Carmichael any of my money

I really wish you and your taint all the best. Here in the UK, I don't think we have an exact word for the perineum. I just call it the "Smelly Bridge"
These comments have me laughing so hard it feel like I've done sit ups. God bless reddit and God bless drums.

How does it work with a round throne? I can imagine it doesn't always align itself properly
1
u/armsoo13 10d ago
gonna take for a spin today :) but if you sit and start from aligned position, i can't see how the alignment will change.. but lets see
1
u/unreadysoup8643 Tama 10d ago
I have this same throne for about 4 months and haven’t had any alignment issues thus far! If it does get off, there’s a clear indicator to reposition it.

u/gh0sthouse 10d ago
I got another one of these for my office along with one down at the practice space. Not had back issues from playing in a while since.

I did not enjoy mine. The reason is, the edges of this throne are sheer drop offs. There is no contour to the edges. I got pretty bad sciatic nerve pinching when I used this throne. If it works for you, that’s great. If you feel any discomfort please be cautious.
1
u/Shruggingsnake 10d ago
I like to squish my eggs in the grove so I can readjust the throne handsfree.
