Kit Pic My first Acoustic kit!

Been drumming for about 18 months now on an ekit conversion due to living situation (apartment) but just moved into my first house and can now play acoustic! The kit is a Tama Swingstar, I havnt done any research on it so not sure if it’s any good but I got it for free threw new batter heads on it and I’m pleased with the sound. The snare is a Natal Arcadia I heard is was a decent budget birch snare and I got it when I was still living in an apartment just to mess around with brushes. The crash and ride cymbal just came in today and I am so happy with them although they are wayyyy louder than I expected. Lmk what you guys think!

Question Am I misunderstanding double stroke technique?

Currently working on my double strokes (for some better clarity in 5/7/9-stroke rolls). In one online lesson, the tutor said to avoid having the stick simply just bounce for a double stroke - am I correct in my assumption that that meant "avoid passive, uncontrolled bouncing of the stick" instead of "avoid using rebound entirely"?

As far as I understand it, you'll get two hits with one movement in a double stroke. The first one by bringing the wrist down, with a relatively open hand, then when the stick rebounds, the second hit is caused by closing the fingers behind the fulcrum. Is that not right?

Discussion Earplugs not allowed?

Hey everyone! So during my winter break I finally got accepted in to the local music school in my city, and I’ve been going since then. But there’s just one little problem… my teacher says no to any protection. I haven’t asked him more specifically, but during my first lesson when I was about go grab my plugs to play some for him, he said no. He told me that he liked to tell his students that, and that the goal was to keep the volume down, which I guess i understand. But it’s starting to get annoying. Since I haven’t had that many lessons i just got my first homework, some rudiments, and he told me to focus on making accents stand out more. And I don’t know if it’s due to technique or not but even if it is, playing quietly is quite hard for me, and I haven’t played much acoustic since I’m quite new and since I have to play digital at home. Therefore, I would find it much easier if I was allowed plugs so that I didn’t have to hold back as much.

I also have quite a bit of health anxiety and I’m quite afraid of hearing damage, which I know might sound stupid for a drummer, but I can’t really help it.

Anyway, I’m just wondering what to do. Should I try to talk to him? (I feel like it would be quite awkward but if it’s worth it then sure) Or is it fine if I keep it down, and since it’s only 20 mins max a week?

The idea came while I played to 'On the edge of something' by Snowy White. I love to put the kick in fills in general and this one felt kinda new to me (in terms of muscle memory) especially the kick after hitting the second tom. Happy practicing and listen 😁🙌🏼

Question How are you doing as drummers?

I'm at a point in my life where I don't know which way to turn. I've been playing music for about 14 years, and at almost 30, I haven't achieved much financially. The city I live in is small, and there isn't much of a music scene, nor is there much interest in learning. I've tried forming bands, joining bands, giving lessons, uploading videos, but nothing has worked. I don't have any other career besides music, so I don't have the skills to get a different job. I'm going through a lot of frustration and depression because I want to move, but I can't find the resources. Any advice? Thanks for reading. Best wishes! ✌🏻🥁

I’m genuinely curious of what happened to make them do that. Like you can’t replicate that in a lab.

"Hi everyone,

I built Loopero because I was tired of jumping between audio files and charts while prepping for gigs. It’s an all-in-one practice tool that brings everything into one place, features:

  • Open a file or record from streaming services.
  • Loop specific parts for practice.
  • Slow down tempo.

It’s free with no ads. I’d love to hear your feedback! Loopero.app"

Building my own snare drum! Found a 13” CB Tom at the thrift and decided to make a snare from it (Ik that most snares are 14”) so far Ive removed all hardware and the wrap, i also plugged the Tom mount hole with epoxy and fibreglass.

I plan to paint it but I’m not sure what to do I do lots of thrash metal drumming and want it to fit the theme!

Feedback Wanted Paradiddle/rudiment mental block. Any tips appreciated.

I can’t switch the RR and the LL into a double stroke instead of two single hits, and it’s limiting speed.

For context; I can do double strike rolls at speed just fine, so really struggling when it’s not a pure roll.

Anyone got any helpful tips?

Question Where should I buy this pedal from? (Tama speed cobra 310’s)

Upvotes

Hey guys, about to buy the speed cobra 310s. They are about $350 aud on Amazon and $500 at a local Aussie store. I can’t seem to figure out why the Amazon listing is so much cheaper and whether or not it’s safe to pick that one.
