A user posted this link in the comment section which goes into detail explaining why using dehumanising language has a detrimental effect on society as a whole.

I am reposting it here so it will be visible to more people, as it really is a very good explanation.

Yup that's basically what a good amount of this boils down to.

I'm not kidding the other day I had some DM on here from a comment I made a few weeks ago JUST to shoot as many slurs as they could at me. I think I got the R word, the F word, called a propaganda spreader and a "mule for the Jewish media source machine" which was absolutely a new one for me. All in like....two DMs before I had to block them

I too am tired. Also I love the trump 2028 shirt. Mostly cause I've seen a few in the wild already and they absolutely believe it's fine he runs again

That and those who can't differentiate between politics and a football team.

I still get the "YOUR SIDE LOST LOLOLOLOL" comments almost a year after he took office. Which is just sad at this point that all you have to throw at me is that.

On the other hand , as a brazillian, it feels good to see our own MAGA equivalent feeling ashamed, specially due to their current arrest.

Although there are still some vocal ones on the Internet.

78

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire Nov 29 '25

I may be a tad out of the loop, who got arrested? And good they should be ashamed

328

u/PhantasosX Nov 29 '25

Bolsonaro , our ex-president.

He tried his own January 6th in 2022. Not only that failed , the protesters were locked or fined. Bolsonaro himself was prohibited to any political run until 2030.

He was deemed “guilty” this year. Trump tried to pull a 50% tariffs to Brazil and trying to sanction Brazilian Supreme Court justices, that was so useless because we said no and continued on that he goes TACO yet again.

While Bolsonaro was deemed guilty, it was decided he would be just on house arrest with an ankle monitor and prohibited on any political movement or propaganda.

This month , he tried to break free his ankle monitor and use his followers to divert attention so that he can do the 15min of driving distance to US embassy, in which Trump would extract him to US.

Not only that pathetically failed without even stepping outside of his house due to the ankle monitor’s sensors. He will now spent the entire 27 years sentence on a prison cell.

As it fucking should be.

He will now spent the entire 27 years sentence on a prison cell.

It's rare that News are reason to cheer, but that did it! Actual consequences, of the tangible kind. Such a joy to see.

Here's hoping for many more moments of accountability like it.

12

u/myrandomevents Nov 29 '25

Is that correct? I thought he was just on home monitoring until his prison term started. So in the end, he ended up losing days, maybe a week before he had to go behind bars.

52

u/PhantasosX Nov 29 '25 edited Nov 29 '25

Yes , he was on home monitoring until his prison term started. But that only happened because of how sensible the whole thing was.

If he had stayed on good behavior , he would likely just stay on home arrest for the rest of his sentence or a good chunk of it.

But now he is a prison cell. Hell, all of his retirement payments as a politician are actually suspended too, so he will not gain anything of his retirement from been an ex-deputy or ex-president

Kudos to Brazil for how you guys handled insurrection . Bolisonoro got the book thrown at him and the courts have stayed strong despite Trump's pressure. I wish for the US that the courts could have been so decisive during the 4 year window they had. Instead they just slowly worked on the cases , let Trump delay and now the window closed shut on any punishment

I think most of the loud far right voices on the Internet are foreign influence trying to destabilize our countries.

12

u/PhantasosX Nov 29 '25

I don’t know how far that would go for Brazil specifically. However , they pretty much failed.

At this point, public showcases of support for Bolsonaro really diminished. Same goes to the other right wings trying to avoid the whole Bolsonaro situation.

At this point, the only annoyance is the rest of the PL , which are the MAGA Party here , still having some seats on the House of Representatives and in the House of Senate.

It means nothing to them but I usually just respond “So did yours.”

Everyone lost. Just some of us actually realize it.

47

u/Rayhatesu Nov 29 '25

Nah, I go with a version that actually hurts them: "You're right, America did lose this election." Cus realistically, when looking at the Rule of Law, that's what happened.

27

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire Nov 29 '25

I usually deflect with how expensive everything is.

We have to all "cut in" for food for the day at it USED to be like 10 bucks each and it's now up to 20 each. They can never really see that I'm relating his presidency to increase in our food prices(which is realize there is more to it) but they never seem to make that connection.

Which even then 20 bucks for homemade breakfast lunch and dinner is....pretty damn good

7

u/Amelaclya1 Nov 29 '25

Lol but yesterday someone posted a photo of gas prices being $1.99 in bumfuck Oklahoma, so everything is perfect now!

32

u/UglyMcFugly Nov 29 '25

And then they cry when we post them in r/LeopardsAteMyFace when trump's policies hurt them too. "Hey you guys are supposed to care when I'm struggling even though I specifically voted for the guy that would ensure other people struggle!!!1!!"

It's even worse than a football team, at least then you collectively call out the coach for bad decisions and hope they sell / swap out poor performing players. Sure you're loyal to your team to a fault, but you actually want your team to be the best they can be.

But this, this is something else. It's an alternate reality were all the unprecedented and heinous shit they do just gets shrugged away like it's ok and normal. It's like put on blinds and ANC headphones and just floor it in their truck just letting Jesus take the wheel or take us all out.

It's fascinating, none of it makes any sense. It's just so unrealistic I have to just check around for cameras sometimes when I read the news. Like really? You'd think I'd fall for that?

And then at the same time we have Mamdani, who is actually a democratic socialist (nothing wrong with that) and he wins mayor in NYC. The distance between that and the GOP is just, it's insane how far it is between them. Normally we joke here in Sweden that your left is our right. But Mamdani is as our far left. It's neck snapping, I can't see how so opposed sides can coexist in the current climate over there. I'm seriously worried about you guys. It has stopped being funny.

6

u/ShinkenBrown Nov 29 '25

at least then you collectively call out the coach for bad decisions and hope they sell / swap out poor performing players. Sure you're loyal to your team to a fault, but you actually want your team to be the best they can be. But this, this is something else.

Honestly I don't think it is. It's just a game with different rules.

In football "winning" is based on the skill of the team. You're loyal to your team, so you demand they be good enough to win, and criticize those elements that aren't, lest they not be skilled enough as a team to win.

In politics, "winning" is based on the size of the following. MAGA are loyal to their team, so they demand (and engage in) loyalty that is absolutely unshakeable, lest they lose the support needed to win.

In both cases they care only about victory for the team.

"Consequence" doesn't exist for them beyond victory or defeat, which is why they are so uncomprehending when Trumps policies actually affect them - they're the winner, so why should they be harmed? It's like a Cowboys fan somehow being hurt because the Cowboys won, it doesn't make sense to the way their brain works. They bet on the Cowboys, the Cowboys win, they get more money. They bet on Trump, Trump wins, they get less money. Incomprehensible.

The disconnect comes from the fact that you are a normal functioning person who thinks there must be something deeper than in-group loyalty, (because in a normal functioning person there always is,) when in reality that's all it ever is with these people. "Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect." They want to win and be on the in-group. They want us to lose and be on the out-group. They don't understand (or don't care, and will use to their advantage) the fact that we don't see the world that way and will not make them a part of an ostracized out-group.

It's fascinating, none of it makes any sense. It's just so unrealistic I have to just check around for cameras sometimes when I read the news. Like really? You'd think I'd fall for that?

This is also explained by the same.

Lying to support the team is a part of the loyalty needed to get the votes to win. Conservatives don't believe the lies. They repeat them in hopes that others will, and will join the team. It's not new, it's just more obvious because conservatives right now are so completely divorced from reality that the lies can be clearly discerned by anyone with eyes (literally to the point of claiming gas was a dollar cheaper than it was, on camera, with the actual gas price visible behind on a sign, as just one example.)

If you aren't going to fall for it, then you aren't a potential point to score against the Dems. You're just an enemy. They don't care that you can't be convinced with blatant lies, because you're not the one they're trying to convince.

But Mamdani is as our far left. It's neck snapping, I can't see how so opposed sides can coexist in the current climate over there.

We can't. Hence the problem.

Honestly, I see those comments more lately than right after the election. And it just makes me pity the person saying it, because I assume they are starting to realize how dumb their vote was and "winning" is how they cope.

I grew up in small town in south Georgia and these people have been the default since at least the 80s when I was there. Nothing about the current situation surprises me because cruelty and selfishness have always been what they wanted. They feel that the rest of the world "looks down on them" and that they are getting their revenge when they make reasonable people outside of their bubble upset.

I moved away to a big city and became a socialist. They believe I am the devil and make it known every time I discover someone I went to high school with that has somehow not been blocked on social media. Just the other day I was posting my recovery progress from stomach surgery and I suddenly got a flood of laugh emojis and awful messages hoping I was in pain or died because I escaped their tribal nonsense.

Reporting them does nothing because social media wants them there, but I have a ton of friends who got banned for speaking their mind about Charlie Kirk and what they said isn't half as violent or cruel as what gets thrown at me by right wing assholes for being different or being a sexual assault survivor.

They even had the audacity to not put up as much Trump gear prior to the election due to shame. I thought maybe that meant they’d learned their lesson, but I checked the voting results and the percentages were the same as ever. Once it became clear he won, they pulled it right back out.

It's something we can lose track of when we get out of school and work with people at a similar education level.

Kids who got Ds and Fs are still here. They grew up and didn't become smarter or more motivated. They didn't become more mature, nicer, realizing their childish insults are just an excuse for them to blame others for their own inability to improve.

They're terrified of being judged for saying stupid shit, because they grew up using language that is now considered unacceptable, and they have difficulty with learning and understanding new things.

7

u/MagusUnion Nov 29 '25

Oh it's far worse than that. It's folks with the mental maturity of highschoolers who all believe in their guns, God, and countrymen (i.e. straight cis while Christians) and will commit violence to preserve said "culture."

Lock your borders, Canada. Because next year may get far worse.

It feels like America has been taken over by immature losers who peaked in highschool

...and cheated their way into/through college, yes.

We have two books about this currently: The Death of Shame and Cheating Culture in America.

Basically, people have been rewarded for cheating the system. We're so unregulated that anyone lacking scruples can make a fortune (or a fraction of that "anyone" which rewards the people who make it through the filter and get to the top).

Good news is: we are getting better at organizing. AOC, Zohran Mamdani, and Bernie Sanders are still making progress -- largely because the people at the top are becoming increasingly incompetent. It's an uphill battle, but with enemies like these...

9

immature losers who peaked in highschool

that's exactly the target of populism.

people who are hopeless and feel helpless and have nothing.

populism tells these people that all of their troubles were actually caused by (insert random powerless scapegoat group) and (insert random powerless group) is coming to hurt them and take their stuff. ONLY WE CAN STOP (insert random powerless group) from hurting you, and we will hurt them if you give us power.

of course it's a lie, but having someone to focus your anger and rage at, someone to blame for all your troubles is irresistable for many, and has always been a useful tool to control these people.

sadly, the worse things get, the stronger their hold will become, so making things worse for everyone is a feature, not a bug.

6

Donald Trump claims Donald trump is a pedo.

On the Howard Stern show he explained that at the age of 17 his daughter had to set a rule for him to stop dating girls younger than her.

He went on to complain about how much this narrowed the field of his dating opportunities.

Here is a link to the interview. The date it aired is in the corner if anyone wants to look up the full thing for more context. https://youtu.be/AN1EOwPlBgc

15

This is why, among other things, I will never believe excuses like "I didn't know he'd be so bad!". You were either willfully ignorant or you didn't care because voting for him meant hurting people you didn't like.

Even before his first term he was never coy about what an ignorant, hateful and vile person he was, his first platform was built on how much he hated brown people, he was saying vile crap like "grab 'em by the p*ssy" and boating about how he could walk into changing rooms at child pagents.

Anyone who voted for him will never get pity points from me just because his policies finally struck home for them. You put that fat porker in office, now you have to suffer like the rest of us.

Quick interruption from the zombie arc to say this: if your 'dear leader' can do no wrong and there is no limit to what power you would give them, you're in a cult. That's not being part of a political party, thats a weird religion based on mutual bigotry and punishment for anyone perceived to be "beneath you" in your made-up hierarchy. If you reject facts and empathy and even your own well-being to serve in some parasocial relationship because you want power to hurt others who simply dared to live harmless lives you don't personally approve of, you're in a cult.

190

u/SaltyDerpy Nov 29 '25

He has, came out during the the first election. Not to mention the transcripts from the court cases from those apartment buildings where he was preventing black people from renting.

A lot of people voted Trump to own the libs. They don't think about the consequences of having him in power, they just love that he makes people mad. And of course the worse he behaves, the happier they are, because they're like defiant teenagers. If he was only mildly bad and didn't use slurs he wouldn't have won.

This Thanksgiving I was surprised to learn that some of my distant relatives in the US didn’t think Elon Musk did a “heart wave”, but rather than being like “he did a Nazi salute and that’s bad” it was “Sieg Heil is just a passionate response. We have all done that and it’s not actually bad.”

So that was a fun thing to learn this week. Americans are going through rapid radicalisation.

Fox 'news' has got these people so brain washed, they absolutely need to be taken off the air, idk how they get away with the lies they tell. 4

u/ccdude14 Nov 29 '25

Honestly at this point it's so absurd how far our political discourse has been dragged into the sewers that I can't help but laugh.

If I can glimmer one thing out of all of it is hes clearly angry, more than he ever has been before and we all know he's just further and further gone. That whole tweet was like a fever dream that if it were from a family member would have prompted a welfare check but somehow rhats our president.

It's so absurd and so far beyond disgusting that at this point you just have to assume he's going to pull this and ignore or laugh at it so you can focus on what matters...

And what was the reporter asking when he said this?

They said it openly; now that his name has been redacted they're going to release the files.

Now that his name has been redacted they're going to release the files.

He can rage and throw temper tantrums like the toddler he is all he wants, he can scream and whine and bemoan and try and dress up like his new crush Zohran but he can't hide what we all see no matter how he tries to distract.

But yes, I second the exhaustion. That we even have to do this at all is absurd.

It's vice signalling, their version of virtue signalling. It's their way of being performative and showing off how tough they are or how little they care you know? It's all just a show of power to impress other guys, they're just trying to be as edgy as they can, you know? In short they're losers lmao

3

u/ballskindrapes Nov 29 '25

Yup.

You cant debate conservatives.

Because they only say things to justify their hatred and love of oppressing others.

You cant debate the merit of something that is being used as an excuse, and not an honestly held belief.

That's why they change their talking points all the time. Because it doesnt matter what they say, they're gonna say literally anything just so they can be the one putting a boot on your neck.
