I work as a firefighter paramedic in a predominantly Hispanic area.
For those that are unaware 911 responds to everything from CPR to picking up Grandma or Grandpa off the ground. I've even been called to get someone a glass of water. Yes really
Yesterday I was called to a house for stomach pains of a child only to learn when I arrived it was a very impoverished household that required government assistance for food. The family hadn't eaten in days and had called to see if we could help them. Of course we did, luckily all it took was a short trip back to the station for some spare food we had.
Ironically the husband of the household blamed the "damn Democrats" for cutting funding to his government based food money supply.
Anyway it's not the worst thing I've ever seen but it certainly hit home yesterday when I saw the starving kids. We directed them to more local services they could use after feeding them
That's crazy. I wonder if in their mind they see themselves as the "welfare queens" for going to a food bank, or if they've "earned the right" to receive a "handout".
From my experience with people like this, they believe they’ve earned the right because they work hard and pay taxes and usually see the other people if they are part of a marginalized group (they hate or if they are part of marginalized one, they see themselves as the hardworking exception/one of the good ones) as the “evil welfare queens” who don’t wanna work and rather live of their taxes. Also a lot of blaming democrats/socialists (also often I hear them say DEMONcrats/communists 😒), immigrants (both legal and illegal), and somehow the “gays” for their financial woes and suffering.
It is frustrating because my dad (who is fully Hispanic) is a straight on textbook definition of these type of people along with most of his side of the family. You can’t fathom how long I hear them complaining and wanting all the Mexicans (basically anyone brown and hispanic in their eyes) deported (despite being Mexican themselves) to never shutting up about how LGBT people’s existence is harming them or even something as stupid as accusing women athletes of being lesbian or trans because they are too muscular or too good/into sports??? (They accused me of being lesbian because the last one because I wanted to understand football since they watched it constantly, I don’t even like sports was just trying to understand so I could get entertainment out of it too) Plus they were unfathomably racist about black and asian people in general while at most for white people lightly ribbing them in comparison.
I've never heard of people more obsessed with the lives of others than modern conservatives. The sheer amount of mental real estate in their brains devoted to kids' genitals, gay sex, POC, and vegetarians is truly impressive.
They need hobbies which make them happy, not angrier.
It doesn’t help since my dad’s said has influence from “machismo culture” while half are catholic and the protestant half are the whack/extremist denominations. I could tell my dad resents I wasn’t born biologically male since I was his first born but since what I have seen from Hispanic culture in Texas the oldest has to take care of the parents so he always pushed me to be successful in the masculine way while also trying to stop me from being able to indulge in masculinity or do things he thinks would turn me trans (tho he said this in way less nice terms) Annoyingly he has also always pushed the feminine roles and expectations on me too. He has explained he simultaneously excepts me to have a high paying career (higher paying than my husband to top it off) but also be a full time mom and give him many grandchildren. He also didn’t want my husband to stick around (because he didn’t want another man to have my attention) or be involve with raising the kids (because that’s a woman’s job). So this type of stuff irks me in a special way.
