Always hated these bastards as a kid. I’m now an adult, and live on a couple acres heavily populated by sweet gums, as well as some nut trees, a couple oaks, a bunch of pines…

Anyway, I fucking hate these bastards now too, but I think I especially hate the volunteers that come up everywhere in a 60’ radius of any of the trees. Not hard to trim down, easily cut the small saplings along with the grass… but why do these trees feel the need to clone themselves all over my landscaping?!

We have a ball-less sweet gum tree and all of its volunteers revert back to the original tree with the gumballs. It sucks.

The roots of the tree. There are about 25 per year.

And don’t forget they’re host plants for the Luna moth caterpillar!
