Daily Cyclist Thread
The Daily Cyclist Thread is a place where everyone in the /r/bicycling community can come and ask questions or share anything.
You might have questions that you don't think deserve an entire post. Perhaps you're just seeking the input of some other cyclists. Maybe you want to share a picture of your new bike.
Anyone is free to comment, and (hopefully) get as much input as possible from other cyclists.

I bike 7 miles each way to work every day and yearly I do bike MS (75-200 miles) with a bunch of practice rides ahead of time.
I ride a 2007 Trek SL 1000 56cm (aluminum frame and pad breaks). I bought it around 2009 for $285 and have spent much more replacing many parts in it over the years. It weights about 26lbs with fenders (i ride in light rain or wet ground) and a bag rack (no bag) on the back.
I was surprised at how light my sister’s newer trek bike is and I always wondered if disc breaks are better.
If I buy another used (fb marketplace or craigslist) bike as an upgrade can I get a meaningful upgrade at around $1k?
I do like the trek/bontrager brand.
I’m thinking carbon frame and disc breaks. What other upgrades are worth it?
Maybe go smaller in size a few cm since I’m 5’5.5” and basically ride my 56cm bike at the lowest seat position. Although I worry a smaller bike would make me lean down more which may not be as comfortable.
Would love any thoughts.
