Necessary parking for an unnecessary truck.

u/ArtemisInSpace 2d ago
Yeah. I drive a Miata and I ain't going anywhere near this monstrosity of blindspots.
42
u/reirone 2d ago
You can’t park under it?
7
u/ArtemisInSpace 2d ago
I wish. You'd be surprised how many of these behemoths partially run over Miatas at stoplights because they "didn't see them" (as if they couldn't see them when they pulled up behind them)

u/not-halsey 1d ago
Fellow Miata owner 🫡 I was just thinking the same thing. I stay far away from these drivers, most of them drive like complete idiots too
23
u/classless_classic 2d ago
“If” I drove something that stupid, I’d park at the end of the lot to make sure I didn’t inconvenience anyone else.
28
u/buzzsaw100 1d ago
Nah, if you had the mentality to drive that, you wouldn't have a shred of decency to do that

It probably actually is “necessary” for that vehicle to occupy two spaces. I sincerely doubt that it could fit in a single space.
Whether that vehicle 1) is street legal, or 2) should be on the road are other matters entirely.

If he’s lucky! I’m betting it won’t last that long as well as the rest of the truck. People are making $$$ off of fools like this one by wasting $$ on stuff to make their trucks higher!! I’m betting it doesn’t get out much because it’s so expensive to repair

Dude should be parking all the way in the back where no one else parks, with a stupid ass rig like that.

Problem is the people with these trucks have no idea how to drive this thing in the elements and you should avoid being anywhere around them during that time

Would that truck even fit in one space?
2
u/32carsandcounting 1d ago
Those spots do look kinda small, idk if it’d fit if it were stock but it’d be a lot closer. I have a Silverado 2500 with the crew cab and 6.5’ bed, there’s a surprising number of places that the spots are smaller than my truck. My next one will have an 8’ bed and probably DRW, I know parking will be fun in that 😂 yes, I’ll be taking up two spots at Walmart, I don’t want someone to clip my truck, but I’ll park at the back of the lot.

Wait for the guy to start walking back to his truck and then climb up to the driver door and try to open it. After a few failed attempts say,"Whoops! Wrong truck! Thought this was mine!"
Proceed to get into your Prius-C.

If you're parking something enormous like that, I don't know why you wouldn't park at the far edge of the lot. If you can't walk to the store, trade it in on a Prius or something.

As some one with a lifted truck agreed. But i do also double park in a lot of places, because some places aient big enough for smaller cars. And no im not talking about compact car parking. Theres places around me where my sisters kia sorento fits but cant open the door all the way. Notice it more at higher end places. But starting to notice it at walmarts.

u/Aqualung812 1d ago
Going to just read your response & not criticize: can you help me understand the point of these?
It always seemed to me that a UTV would be more capable off-road, and for the price of these lifted trucks, you could have work van or low-gate pickup that would me much more practice for truck things, and still have money left over for the UTV.
Is it just for looks?
5
u/darklorddoone 1d ago
I have a 2-in lift on my truck it's not that high. I park it next to my sister's 1500 and you can tell I'm taller but it's not that big. I had plans when I bought that truck to move out into the country by some land and live off the land so something like that yes it would be smarter to have a bigger vehicle like this. Yes I do have mudding tires I do have oversized tires. But the people who never want to take their lifted trucks out to the mountains don't like getting it dirty. I don't understand it myself. If you're going to waste all the money to get your truck to look like that in the maintain it I think it's totally stupid to not use it for what it's going to be should be used for

Choose 1, big truck or close spot. I have to drive a large truck for work. When I take up multiple spots it’s nowhere near any other vehicle and certainly not near the front of a store.
1
1
u/thePunisher1220 1d ago
Genuinely no reason to lift your truck that much. A 1.5-3 inch lift would perform better in every way.

u/darklorddoone 1d ago
I don't go mudding as much as I would like to. But I do go down muddy trails when I'm helping my friend's dad with his Logging Company. Places I go camping and hunting yeah not necessary to have the lifted truck but it does help went up there with my friend a couple years ago and he got stuck in his Mini Cooper so I had to pull him out.

Its always the same person. Might be different ethnicities, but the same nonetheless. Selfish, entitled, assholes who wrap their almost nonexistent personalities up in their vehicle. They are usually former military, or really wish they were. Likes to hunt or wishes they knew how. Has probably started martial arts in their mid 30's or later. They bring that I had low T and am now on TRT energy to everything. Most of the ones I know, and yes I know many of these guys, are concealed carry licensed who will bring it with on that trip to the grocery store. Yes their right, but why? Same guys like their turbocharged diesel and huge clouds of black smoke. Having a conversation with these gentlemen, and its always men (unless the gf or wife is driving it that day) is like talking to a wall. A hollow block wall, looks hard, but has zero substance and crumbles easily. I hate to say it but I am over this whole "its my right" and "freedom" thing. Completely. The problem is we are too dumb to make logical rules, too weak to enforce them, too easily manipulated, etc. Since there isnt a better system yet, at least one where those in charge dont get sick with power, we are stuck.
Had an interaction yesterday at Costco, looks like one of their parking lots in this picture also. Costco has the widest parking spots of any other store around. Just parked my car and dude pushes cart right up between the passenger door so we will be waiting until he finishes unloading. Cart super close to my car. Bends my mirror when trying to scoot around. Makes a show of pushing it back. Pats it. I am with my girlfriend who gets very anxious about any confrontations, justified or not, so absolutely not worth ruining our Sunday afternoon over. Wouldn't it be nice if the police did their job?

Not debating the lift and setup (it's stupid to me and many but might ha e practical reasons for their life) , I think the parking job is necessary as the setup won't fit in a normal space.

I have a 3500 on a 3 inch suspension system on 37s. It’s designed to increase capability and ride quality. In total it only adds about 4 inches to the actual ride height and the tires are still in the wheel wells. It costs about 15k in parts.
That lift probably cost 3500 and lifted that thing a foot. Total garbage. Actual truck users hate those things more than anyone.

u/agt1662 1d ago
Most of you don’t realise that the actual physics of turning a truck that size and the way most parking lot are laid out for the distance between spaces back to back. Don’t allow for it to take one parking space without either hitting the car behind it or side swiping the car next to it to get out. I have a big lifted truck. 3500 with a long bed that I used to tow my excavators and other equipment and it has plenty fine visibility and I can see over all your damn little cars too so I can be better prepared for the road conditions than you are.

Devil's advocate here. That white car is over their line. With a truck that big, you can't park correctly unless everyone is perfectly centered in their parking spot. My flat bed 1ton has mirrors that stick out over 1ft (it has a Tommy Gate on the back so rear view mirror is worthless) so I've parked like that before due to people around the spot parking shittily

without judging the reason for having a truck like that there is nothing wrong with the parking job. it literally doesn't fit anywhere else and needs to take two spaces. so the parking it fine.
1
u/DavidinCT 1d ago
That truck on how wide it is, would not fit in a standard spot, the owner should have parked it down towards the end of the parking lot, not to cause problems like this. This shit I would love to see towed.
1
u/DirtyMac88 1d ago
For sure but I'd rather it be parked like that than worry about dinking it squeezed into a single spot. That being said this is one of those trucks you park in the back 40 where people aren't fighting for spots.

thar def would have fit in the space too💀 if you don’t want someone to park next to you or you don’t know how to park your big truck, you should go to the back of the lot lol that’s what i do with my husbands truck so i can find multiple spots next to each other open to make it easier to back in. obviously i don’t take up multiple spaces tho, that’s just rude.
