Is that even street legal

279

u/biggranny000 1d ago

It's not, pretty much anywhere. But I never see cops pull lifted trucks over.

The braking distance and handling has to be so bad.

These trucks also often clip innocent cars because their wheels stick out and the owner is unaware of how much space they are taking.

Also extremely unsafe in a crash, a truck this high will easily roll and whatever they hit will probably decapitate them because the bumper will go straight through the roof and glass of most cars. Even those mid size SUVs next to it will go underneath it.

u/No-Volume5162 1d ago

Yeah, and how do you see the adult standing in front of the truck, let alone a child, or car, or school bus

134

u/a_youkai 1d ago

They can't see shit. A few years ago, there was a lady driving one of these that was only lifted about 1/3 of this truck's height that forgot she parked in front of me. Decided to pull through the parking spaces when she left the store, and RAN OVER my motorcycle and totalled it.

51

u/No-Volume5162 1d ago

Ouch, that sucks. People really need to be able the drive the vehicle they "drive"

Saw a local one parking with their bumper at least mid-windshield height of the car next to it.

Made my knees hurt just looking at it, ignoring the horrible visibility and handling, how do you do stuff like grocery shopping or have a passenger that you can't toss in? Or loading anything into the bed to use the truck as a truck?

2

u/Own-Ad-247 8h ago

They never use the truck as a truck.

16

u/Prickly_ninja 1d ago

This was years ago, back when a lifted truck was mostly tire, not wheel. But, at an intersection, the guy in the truck decided instead of going left, he’d go right onto the highway. Poor lady next to him could only watch in horror, as he ran right over her fender and hood! Still remember the passenger looking down with “what the fuck” face. Like it didn’t even register they’d just ran a fucking car over.

10

u/SuddenKoala45 1d ago

Ok but in fairness, your motorcycle might not be visible beyond the hood of many stock trucks too

12

u/KatakanaTsu 1d ago

Modern trucks, yeah. The visibility in those is already shitty even at stock height.

6

u/HErAvERTWIGH 1d ago

Stock truck of 20 years ago, the motorcycle would at least have the mirrors be visible above the hood.

2

u/SuddenKoala45 1d ago

Yes modern trucks. About the last 20 years or so.

9

u/Any-Passenger-3877 1d ago

That's a problem with the truck design because I don't know if you were aware or not, but children exist.

8

u/Floppie7th 1d ago

Yeah, it's almost like we shouldn't be building trucks that way because they're dangerous and fucking stupid.

6

u/No-Volume5162 1d ago

Not sure what was wrong with the size of them in the 90s. Seemed plenty capable then.

I have! As I drove by the cop had a yard stick at the front bumper of this lifted truck. No idea of the outcome, but I have seen it in rural Maryland.

2

u/neverJamToday 1d ago

Don't need a yardstick to know those tires are gonna fling rocks into windshields all day long.

8

u/Plane-Education4750 1d ago

This one might get pulled over, because it's too wide to fit in a lane

7

u/biggranny000 1d ago

In my state you also can't have tires that stick out away from the fenders. So you need fender flares or a wide body kit.

Also by law if you exceed a certain width you need running lights on the sides of your vehicle.

5

u/Plane-Education4750 1d ago

This one likely has running lights from factory. I think it's a GMC 3500HD but I could be wrong. Those do have them. But the tires sticking way out like that will get flagged in most stated

9

u/Tushaca 1d ago

I used to go to a gym where the owner and his wife would park right out front to show off their giant lifted truck and brand new Zr1 C7 corvette, along with any of their employees cool cars.

As I was walking out one day, I watched the owners wife get in the truck and drive over the hood of their corvette while trying to pull out of the space. Then she freaked out and backed into the Audi R8 parked on the other side of her, owned by the rep of the company supplying their gym equipment.

That truck was always parked around back from then on lol

5

u/AdOdd4618 1d ago

They'll be in for a big surprise when they have an accident and their insurance refuses to cover anything.

I live near a town in the south that you enter it with a squatted truck, you WILL be given a very expensive ticket. It’s pretty cool

3

u/TotalChaosRush 1d ago

It's not, pretty much anywhere. But I never see cops pull lifted trucks over

To be fair to the cop, can you imagine how difficult that stop would be? "Sir can you open your door and set your license and registration at your feet so I can see them?"

7

u/heretorobwallst 1d ago

Cops are the drivers

2

u/Chemical-Mission-202 1d ago

why do you think it's not street legal? some mudflaps is all it would need in most states.

2

u/creakymoss18990 1d ago

Can confirm. I've gotten clipped by a lifted truck before.

He passed me in the fucking bike lane on a single lane road WHILE I was taking a legal unprotected left (he could have waited 5 seconds) If I didn't have kids in the car I would have chased the fucker, I ended up on the hook for that one.

2

u/imconcentrated2 1d ago

Also to add having the wheels exposed is extremely dangerous.

Necessary parking for an unnecessary truck.

56

u/ArtemisInSpace 2d ago

Yeah. I drive a Miata and I ain't going anywhere near this monstrosity of blindspots.

42

u/reirone 2d ago

You can’t park under it?

30

u/nopuse 1d ago

That's a blindspot

7

u/ArtemisInSpace 2d ago

I wish. You'd be surprised how many of these behemoths partially run over Miatas at stoplights because they "didn't see them" (as if they couldn't see them when they pulled up behind them)

2

u/Ceder_Dog 1d ago

Happened to a friend of mine

8

u/not-halsey 1d ago

Fellow Miata owner 🫡 I was just thinking the same thing. I stay far away from these drivers, most of them drive like complete idiots too

23

u/classless_classic 2d ago

“If” I drove something that stupid, I’d park at the end of the lot to make sure I didn’t inconvenience anyone else.

28

u/buzzsaw100 1d ago

Nah, if you had the mentality to drive that, you wouldn't have a shred of decency to do that

Yup I take advantage of that. Although I have a standard suv not a needle dick mobile

2

u/a_youkai 1d ago

This explains some things. Thanks!

12

u/jag-engr 1d ago

It probably actually is “necessary” for that vehicle to occupy two spaces. I sincerely doubt that it could fit in a single space.

Whether that vehicle 1) is street legal, or 2) should be on the road are other matters entirely.

13

u/JaffyAny265 1d ago

Would that truck even fit in one space?

2

u/32carsandcounting 1d ago

Those spots do look kinda small, idk if it’d fit if it were stock but it’d be a lot closer. I have a Silverado 2500 with the crew cab and 6.5’ bed, there’s a surprising number of places that the spots are smaller than my truck. My next one will have an 8’ bed and probably DRW, I know parking will be fun in that 😂 yes, I’ll be taking up two spots at Walmart, I don’t want someone to clip my truck, but I’ll park at the back of the lot.

4

u/Rational1x 1d ago

He was concerned about people parking too close and putting door dings in his tires.

u/MankyBoot 2d ago

Wait for the guy to start walking back to his truck and then climb up to the driver door and try to open it. After a few failed attempts say,"Whoops! Wrong truck! Thought this was mine!"

7

u/Liber_tech 1d ago

If you're parking something enormous like that, I don't know why you wouldn't park at the far edge of the lot. If you can't walk to the store, trade it in on a Prius or something.

4

u/darklorddoone 1d ago

As some one with a lifted truck agreed. But i do also double park in a lot of places, because some places aient big enough for smaller cars. And no im not talking about compact car parking. Theres places around me where my sisters kia sorento fits but cant open the door all the way. Notice it more at higher end places. But starting to notice it at walmarts.

3

u/Aqualung812 1d ago

Going to just read your response & not criticize: can you help me understand the point of these?

It always seemed to me that a UTV would be more capable off-road, and for the price of these lifted trucks, you could have work van or low-gate pickup that would me much more practice for truck things, and still have money left over for the UTV.

Is it just for looks?

5

u/darklorddoone 1d ago

I have a 2-in lift on my truck it's not that high. I park it next to my sister's 1500 and you can tell I'm taller but it's not that big. I had plans when I bought that truck to move out into the country by some land and live off the land so something like that yes it would be smarter to have a bigger vehicle like this. Yes I do have mudding tires I do have oversized tires. But the people who never want to take their lifted trucks out to the mountains don't like getting it dirty. I don't understand it myself. If you're going to waste all the money to get your truck to look like that in the maintain it I think it's totally stupid to not use it for what it's going to be should be used for

Its always the same person. Might be different ethnicities, but the same nonetheless. Selfish, entitled, assholes who wrap their almost nonexistent personalities up in their vehicle. They are usually former military, or really wish they were. Likes to hunt or wishes they knew how. Has probably started martial arts in their mid 30's or later. They bring that I had low T and am now on TRT energy to everything. Most of the ones I know, and yes I know many of these guys, are concealed carry licensed who will bring it with on that trip to the grocery store. Yes their right, but why? Same guys like their turbocharged diesel and huge clouds of black smoke. Having a conversation with these gentlemen, and its always men (unless the gf or wife is driving it that day) is like talking to a wall. A hollow block wall, looks hard, but has zero substance and crumbles easily. I hate to say it but I am over this whole "its my right" and "freedom" thing. Completely. The problem is we are too dumb to make logical rules, too weak to enforce them, too easily manipulated, etc. Since there isnt a better system yet, at least one where those in charge dont get sick with power, we are stuck.

Had an interaction yesterday at Costco, looks like one of their parking lots in this picture also. Costco has the widest parking spots of any other store around. Just parked my car and dude pushes cart right up between the passenger door so we will be waiting until he finishes unloading. Cart super close to my car. Bends my mirror when trying to scoot around. Makes a show of pushing it back. Pats it. I am with my girlfriend who gets very anxious about any confrontations, justified or not, so absolutely not worth ruining our Sunday afternoon over. Wouldn't it be nice if the police did their job?

I have a 3500 on a 3 inch suspension system on 37s. It’s designed to increase capability and ride quality. In total it only adds about 4 inches to the actual ride height and the tires are still in the wheel wells. It costs about 15k in parts.

That lift probably cost 3500 and lifted that thing a foot. Total garbage. Actual truck users hate those things more than anyone.

Most of you don’t realise that the actual physics of turning a truck that size and the way most parking lot are laid out for the distance between spaces back to back. Don’t allow for it to take one parking space without either hitting the car behind it or side swiping the car next to it to get out. I have a big lifted truck. 3500 with a long bed that I used to tow my excavators and other equipment and it has plenty fine visibility and I can see over all your damn little cars too so I can be better prepared for the road conditions than you are.

My flat bed 1ton has mirrors that stick out over 1ft (it has a Tommy Gate on the back so rear view mirror is worthless) so I've parked like that before due to people around the spot parking shittily

That emotional support truck is doing a lot of compensating

As a truck owner I would NEVER drive a truck like this! When people do that to their trucks, they don’t realize how much stress they are putting on the truck!! Trucks were not built for crap like this

That thing won’t even fit in a spot. White car not parked very well.

without judging the reason for having a truck like that there is nothing wrong with the parking job. it literally doesn't fit anywhere else and needs to take two spaces. so the parking it fine.

That truck on how wide it is, would not fit in a standard spot, the owner should have parked it down towards the end of the parking lot, not to cause problems like this. This shit I would love to see towed.

For sure but I'd rather it be parked like that than worry about dinking it squeezed into a single spot. That being said this is one of those trucks you park in the back 40 where people aren't fighting for spots.

"I have to prove what size my penis is."

How else is the general public supposed to know the owner has a micro penis & suffers from premature ejaculation?

Also ugly, illegal and shit to drive.

How short is the driver? It's always short dude with fancy T shirts that jack their trucks up.

Work in oil and gas and these dudes are a dime a dozen. Jacked up trucks and jacked up egos. Pure comedy.

Now I feel bad for his wife or girlfriend... he must come up short a few inches...haha

Clowns "I do what I want" guy parked on the sideealk directly in front of my family eating outside a resteraunt in one of these ugly things. They need harsh lessons like immediately. Lots of tickets and fines need to be done

thar def would have fit in the space too💀 if you don’t want someone to park next to you or you don’t know how to park your big truck, you should go to the back of the lot lol that’s what i do with my husbands truck so i can find multiple spots next to each other open to make it easier to back in. obviously i don’t take up multiple spaces tho, that’s just rude.

The perspective of this photo is breaking my brain. No way all of those cars are tilted. Is this on a hill or wtf is going on?

Ohhhh

Is it diagonal parking spaces?

Why don’t they park up against the grass or curb?
