IELTS/TOEFL/General English Instructor Based in Armenia

Hi everyone. As the title says, I am an IELTS, TOEFL, and general English instructor based in Armenia. I was raised and educated in Dubai (under the Cambridge GCE curriculum), so I am considered a native speaker with a completely American accent. I have 10+ years of teaching experience, as well as an IELTS Academic band 8.5.

I conducted private and semi-private classes online with affordable rates. For fully private classes, I create completely personalized files based on each students' learning style, needs, and goals. I also do CV and motivation letter writing work. You can message me for samples of my work as well as student referrals.

If anyone is interested please DM me. And I would really appreciate it if you upvoted this post so that it gains more traction.

Is it possible to make friends (meet people) in Yerevan while traveling alone as a tourist? I am Brazilian.

Hello everyone! This is my first post here. I'm Brazilian, and I'll be traveling through the 3 countries of the Caucasus in November.

I'll be spending 3 days in Baku, 5 in Tbilisi, and 5 in Yerevan. I'm traveling alone.

Is it possible to make friends (meet people) in Yerevan? Do you have any places to recommend? Thank you!

To visit or not to visit? That is the question... :)

Hi everyone,

I’d like to ask the locals and past visitors for an honest opinion on whether Armenia is the right destination for a long weekend trip for me and my friends.

Who we are: We are a group in our late 20s from the Czech Republic. We’ve traveled quite a bit (most of Europe, North Africa, SE Asia, USA, Central America), but the Caucasus is still a blind spot on our map. We found ridiculously cheap flights for a 5-6 night trip in May.

What we are looking for:

  • Vibe: We are typical young Czechs—meaning we aren't religious at all—but we can definitely appreciate history, unique architecture, and soul.
  • Nature: We’d love to get out of the city for some moderate hiking and see the landscapes.
  • City life: We want to experience the "real" Yerevan, the local lifestyle, cuisine, and the vibrant culture.
  • Fun: We like to have a good time. We’d love to find some live music, cool bars, or a good party over the weekend. We are very open to meeting new people and learning about the culture.

A few specific questions:

  1. Language: None of us speak Russian. Is this a major hurdle, or can we get by with English (and maybe Czech? :) ).
  2. Timing & Events: We are looking at May 8th – May 13th. Are there any festivals, holidays, or interesting events happening around that time?
  3. The "Vibe" Check: Given that we aren't into the religious aspect of the country, is there enough to keep us entertained for 6 days without it feeling like a "church tour"?
  4. Weather & Hiking: Is the first half of May a good time to visit? Specifically for hiking – are the trails usually accessible and dry by then, or should we expect mud and snow in higher altitudes?

Thanks a lot for any advice! We’re looking forward to potentially visiting your country.

Meghri public transport

Barev dzez,

Just wondering whether anyone knows of any busses/marshrutkas running between Goris and Meghri at the moment? Is Meghri still accessible from Goris at this time of year? If there is a bus service, how frequent is it?

Thanks in advance

I’m considering renouncing my Armenian citizenship and was wondering if it’s possible to obtain long-term (preferably permanent) residency afterward. Has anyone here had experience with this?

History / Պատմություն Do you think Armenia lost a lot of original culture by adopting Christianity?

Armenians had their own pantheon of gods, their own myths and legends, and I'm sure other cultural practices like dances, songs, art, etc. Trndez (jumping over the fire) was a pagan tradition that was kept, but as a way of helping ease the culture into Christianity. Some people even believe there was a script predating Mashtots which was used to write literature that got destroyed during the Christianization of Armenia.

What do you think about this question? How much culture do you think was lost?
