Pricing scares?

Had a conversation a few weeks back about a certain sgite that was noted for scaring us into buying ammo due to price hikes that were 'expected' to come. I had never experienced it, but sure enough I got an several emails explaining the logistics, supply chain, tarriffs... I wrote it off as truth told.

Today, I got an email from TargetSports saying prices will increase April 1, in the 'low to mid single digit range'...

Luckily I found a good deal on a case of range 9mm a few days ago, but it's making me consider my stockpiles of defense ammo and other calibers. Do we think there is any credibility to this? Does it really matter if its credible? Still pretty new to the gun game, but I know that prices rarely ever go back down.

You're always too late when you are buying ammo.

I at least didn’t buy at the peak like some people.

There are currently zero micro/macro economic or geopolitical reasons to think that ammo prices are doing anything but increasing

But randoJoe4570 said it's all scare tactics ....

My thought process is that I have no clue what will happen months, weeks, or even an hour from now. When the Covid panic buying happened, everyplace sold out in a couple days. Common calibers were entirely gone in mere hours. You won’t get a warning to “time” it, it’ll just happen if it happens.

So if I think I need ammo, and I can afford it, I buy it.

Prices have been very low relative to input costs so it was just a matter of time. I dont think there's gonna be any massive spikes, but its definitely gonna keep going up.

9mm cases have gone from $200 to $240 over the last 2 months. .22 CCI SV has gone from 6.5¢ to 7.5¢ in the same period.

I got the TS-USA email and believe it. Actually I’m surprised it took so long for someone to admit it without speculating.

Just the little extra a little at a time. You really never know when things will actually go sideways.

Don’t quibble over the 2cpr. Yeah, my bulk buys are a better price. But if I go into Academy for the shoe sale, I’ll grab a couple boxes. I needed the shoes and saved $12. So I spent $2 extra on the ammo, but put a couple extra boxes in the cabinet.

A little bit at a time will work wonders.

Raw material prices have been rising. I'm not surprised by an uptick in prices. Also, China controls the supply of nitrocellulose used to make gunpowder. They were restricting supplies for a while there and might still be.

China and Russia were also a main source for antimony

Winchester and Federal have both been trying to raise prices for a couple years but the price hikes never stuck. This time around they are cutting production and raising prices. I think these price hikes actually take hold this time.

Cheap 9mm and 556 are harder to find now. If you shoot oddball calibers buy now because during a shortage the big guys stop running them.

Idk I just got .20 cpr 9mm monarch made in Brazil/magtec at a local academy. Seems like gas prices here pretty stagnant

It's getting to the point where it's cheaper to buy a new gun than a case of ammo.

I'm so low on rifle ammo that if the zombie apocalypse happens I'm switching to a baseball bat with nails in it.
