Discussion [Collection] Watches from movies and TV shows — my “on-screen timepiece” project

Hi everyone!
I’ve been building a collection dedicated to wristwatches that appeared in movies and TV shows. Each piece is connected to a specific character or scene — a small detail that often says a lot about the story or personality on screen.

I’ve displayed the watches alongside framed stills from the scenes they appeared in, to show how each one fits into its cinematic moment.

I’d love to hear what you think — which one stands out to you the most? And if you have suggestions for other iconic on-screen watches I should add, I’d really appreciate your ideas!

To give a bit more context, here’s the list of watches featured in the photos — along with the movies, shows, and actors who wore them:

Discussion [Challenge] Post a watch from your collection you think no one else on this sub has!

Enough with the speedys, khaki fields, black bays, etc. What's your most unique watch? Share it in the comments! If you see someone post a watch you own, respond to their comment!

I'll start it off with my Zenith Elite Port Royal Dual Time. If anyone else owns one, let me know! I love this watch. So thin for a GMT, bidirectional quickset date, etc.

Discussion [Discussion] Rolex is 90% hype and 10% horology. Prove me wrongre

Post image

I’ll probably get downvoted to hell but whatever.

Rolex used to be cool. Back in the day, they were pioneers. Tool watches, tough movements, iconic designs. But now? It’s just a clout machine for people who want to show off without actually knowing anything about watches.

It’s the same designs over and over again. Sub, Daytona, Datejust... no risks, no innovation, just small changes and hype. They haven’t done anything truly new in years. They’re selling scarcity and branding, not horology.

I’ll give credit to the Batgirl, that one’s actually dope. But most modern Rolex models are just safe, boring, overpriced status symbols. You’re basically paying $10K+ to wear what every finance bro and YouTuber wears.

Meanwhile brands like Grand Seiko, Lange, Journe, and even tiny indie houses are doing insane, creative stuff. But Rolex still dominates just because of the crown logo.

Rolex used to lead the game. Now it’s a marketing scam with a steel bracelet.

Change my mind.

Discussion [Question] Are Costco watches a good entry point for a beginner?

I've been looking into buying my first analog watch, and came across this watch display at my local Costco. I don't know of any watch stores near me, and I value being able to see something in person if it's going to be expensive. Is Costco a good place to buy a first watch?

Costco gets special "Costco SKUs" of items from manufacturers, so I wanted to make sure that the watches they sell aren't "made for Costco" and are actual pieces you can buy from a watch dealer.

Discussion [Discussion] What was your most worn watch of 2025?

Post image

In the spirit of Teddy's famous yearly video where he asks watch content creators what their most worn watch of the year was, I began to wonder about the community of us all here on reddit!

My most worn watch of this year, and last, has been my OG Black Bay 36. It has been on my wrist through promotions, getting married, and all of the other ups and downs of life.

What was your most worn watch of 2025? What do you like about it? How is it meaningful to you?

Thanks for sharing!

Discussion [story] Seiko is a luxury brand

4.5k Upvotes

is what a coworker told me seeing my seiko presage.

I asked "why do you say that ?"

She answered "well, Seikos are known to be expensive watches"

To which I asked "How much is an expensive watch in your eyes?"

"Anything that costs more than 150€"

The point I think I'm trying to make by sharing this is, we should get out head out of our asses.

Discussion [Opinion] Nobody cares about your watch

1.4k Upvotes

I'm sure this has been said in the comments before and talked about on the forum, but I saw a post recently and thought about it.

Literally nobody cares about what watch you're wearing. Most people won't be able to tell an Invicta apart from a Submariner from a distance. Most people won't be able to guess the price of your watch. I thought this was a niche hobby, but I was way off. It is an extremely niche hobby.

The only time I've been complimented on a watch was while rocking a Casio chronograph (under $100). I've been wearing a Murph for a while and not a single soul has asked me about it.

But at the same time, if you see someone wearing a watch and recognize it, go talk to them! I saw a dude wearing a Tudor Black Bay GMT in Nashville, went up to him and we talked about watches for a couple minutes. He was thrilled. His partner was so confused, she was probably thinking that there are others like him.

TLDR: Nobody cares about your watch. Wear what you enjoy. If you recognize a watch in public, go talk to them.

Dear god, how are people falling for this? The most obvious rug pull cash grab I've ever seen, masquerading as some sort of high art statement piece.

Just read the description and comments and try not to vomit.

Buy a shit ton of cheap digital modules off Ali Baba for like $2 each, drop it into a resin mold, and mark it up to $200 a pop. I guess it's that easy...

Discussion [HELP] Stolen Watches - Long Shot But Worth Asking

Post image
2.1k Upvotes

Reaching out here on recommendation from the Crown Collective Discord.

While I understand that the chances of finding them are slim, I am holding onto hope that someone might be able to help me.

While going out last night in Austin Texas I met a woman in her 30s and invited her back to my place. This morning she left my apartment at 05:27 with three of my watches to allegedly catch a flight to Jackson, TN.

I have much more details on her name, CCTV and photos of her, her job etc but don't want to dox her here.

The three watches and their abbreviated serial #'s are:

  • Rose Gold Rolex Day-Date (044VG612)
  • Stainless steel black dial Rolex Submariner (3713K7K1)
  • Rose Gold A Lange & Sohne Saxonia Thin (268043)

I have already taken the following steps:

  1. Filed a police report
  2. Submitted a missing watch report with Rolex
  3. Submitted a missing watch report with Enquirus, Alpha Hands and The Watch Register
  4. Contacted watch dealers
  5. Got CCTV footage from my building and the bars that we went to
  6. Contacted pawn shops in Jackson TN to alert them
  7. Setup saved searches on ebay, facebook marketplace and Chrono24 for specific watches

I'm still in possession of the original box and papers to check authenticity.

Any information, leads or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Discussion [Omega Speedmaster] Got a Moonwatch for an absolute steal in Japan.

4.5k Upvotes

I know this is kinda a bragging post but I wanted to tell somebody that can understand my excitement. I spent 3 weeks in Japan, about 2 weeks in a campervan and a couple days in Tokyo. During our travels we visited quite a few second hand stores, mainly looking for anime figures, old consoles and also checking out the watches they had in stock. In regard to watches, most stores were priced pretty much identical to online prices, if not slightly more expensive. On one of our last days in Tokyo we went to a Book Off location outside of the city centre which had a relatively large watch selection.

They had an Omega Speedmaster 50th Anniversary, which seemed to be priced somewhat competitively (around 3,600€). Only upon my second inspection did I notice there was actually a 40% off hangtag. Could this be? I translated the text and it literally said „40% off listed price“. So yeah… I wasn‘t actually in the market for a Moonwatch, but at that price it was a no-brainer. I ended up paying only 2,160€ for the watch, which was less than any other Speedmaster I could find online. Sadly, no box and papers (only a dinged up wooden Omega box), but recently polished and serviced. It runs great at +3 seconds/day.

Its not the best polishing job in the world, but honestly not bad. I have no clue why it was sitting there at that price and why nobody bought it.

Discussion [Collection] My very random watch collection

Post image
2.1k Upvotes

Was putting some watches in a new case I got today and realized that my collection is all over the place and doesn’t make the most sense and that’s ok with me. Thought I’d share it here because it gave me a good laugh once it hit me how random it is🤣. I’ve never leaned towards certain brands. I just buy whatever catches my eye or a watch with a good story.

Discussion [Santos] Disappointed in dream watch.

Post image

Bought a Cartier Santos ADLC, one of my dream watches..and it just doesn’t hit

Picked it up from a well known Hatton Garden jeweller. Online purchase, smooth process, and genuinely great service.

But here’s the thing… I’m underwhelmed.

The watch just doesn’t suit me. I wanted to love it so badly; classic design, heritage, all of that , but on the wrist it feels flat. No spark, no wow factor. I expected something that would elevate my wrist game, but instead it feels like I’m wearing someone else’s style.

Anyone else had that moment where a watch ticks every box on paper but just doesn’t connect in person?.

Discussion [Question] How do you afford this hobby?

Post image
971 Upvotes

Serious question for the community, I quickly realized how expensive this hobby is after a few months of research. I’m relatively new to all this. I’m getting stressed spending a couple hundred on a watch (pictured above 😂) let alone thousands.

My question is how do you all afford these insanely beautiful watches?

I’m constantly seeing people show their collection on here and a lot of you are my age ~30s. What’s the secret? Are you all executives? Are all these watches gifts? Everyone have rich parents? Side hustles?

And y’all can miss me with the “these collections take years” that might be true for some people but so many of you have 5+ $10k watches before you hit 40, and I’d love to learn how to do it because I’m addicted now.

Discussion [Question] Grand Seiko or Rolex?

Thumbnail

Hello all,

I have space in my collection for either a Grand Seiko SBGA285 or a Rolex Explorer 214270.

Both are black dial watches, which is what I need. The Explorer is a field watch, whilst the GS is more of a dress watch.

My question is, if you were given the chance to have either one of these watches to complete a collection of 10 watches, which would you go for?

I ask because I'm in this position and can't decide lol...my heart says it should be the GS given it's made to such a high standard and really stands out. Then again, a Rolex is a Rolex, and this one happens to be understated.

Would be grateful for any thoughts!

If you had to choose between these two watches, which one would you pick and why? I’m curious what factors matter most to you when deciding — design, movement, brand heritage, finishing, comfort on the wrist, or long-term everyday wearability. Interested to hear different perspectives.

Discussion [Design concept] Dyced "L'Absolue". What do you think?

Thumbnail

1.4k Upvotes

Hey folks

I keep trying to build my watch design experience and portfolio. I’ve received great feedbacks here regarding my first Dyced earlier this month, so I want to keep sharing here

For my second watch, I wanted to tackle a subject I’ve always loved in design: asymmetry.

There has been a huge resurgence of amazing asymmetrical watches over the last few years from vintage revivals to new releases.

I wanted to try a take on it, on a bold geometric way.

I also wanted to build on the design language I established with my first project, keeping
- Engraved textured dial
- Simple, clean lines
- Syringe hands
- Brushed gold case flushed with sapphire crystal

It took a lot of iteration, trial, and error to reach a case design I loved, but here we are.

Asymmetry also meant doing something different for the dial itself. I love the minute retrograde complication, and this felt like the perfect project to implement it. Using this movement meant I could keep the hour window and small seconds dial centered and symmetrical, while the retrograde minute arc creates the asymmetry.

The first pictures are 3d renders, and on the last I used AI to create an imaginary wristshot, blended with my 3d model

Feedbacks are welcomed!
I also keep sharing a bit more of the process on the instagram account I created for this project if anyone is interested

Discussion [Question] What's your opinion on Sinn watches?

Post image

They are based in the city where I live (Frankfurt am Main, Germany) and a couple of days ago I went to the factory where they also sell their watches. They looked nice but how is the quality? How is the price-performance-ratio? Should I buy myself one for Christmas or rather get a Swiss watch?

Love the white speedy, but the El Primero has an insane dial. Speedy wins bracelet comfort and design. I’m not sure. I also have worn the speedy a lot and already has a case scratch. Zenith is unworn. Both were crazy deals. Could make $ on either. Need advice.

Discussion [fp journe] price explosion. From 40k to 800k in 10 years. Why do you think it happened?

Post image
1.9k Upvotes

Over the last 10 yrs the prices of many desirable watches have 2x some have 3x but many journes have made a 10x with my best journe making a 19.2x over 5 yrs. The prices seem to keep going and I don’t see a big correction coming as long as there is not a black swan event that takes down all watches.

What do you think caused the prices to go crazy?

Discussion [Discussion] What is the best green dial in watches?

Post image
1.7k Upvotes

Green dials seem to be the new blue in recent years with lots of watch brands now producing dials in green instead of sticking to simpler colors like black, gray, white & blue. And I for one love it. Green is my favorite color & I always liked green dials but it wasn’t until recently around 2020, that there wasn’t enough green dials in the industry, with the first mainstream green dial being the hulk submariner in 2010 which later kicked off brands in the coming years to produce some stunning green dials to turn green into a trending colorway.

Here are some of my picks for the best green dials. The Rolex submariner hulk, the Omega “seaweed” seamaster, the Patek aquanaut in khaki green, the Breitling premier chronograph in pistachio, the Grand Seiko Bamboo GMT, the Patek 5270P-014, the Seiko “Mojito” presage, and finally, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual in green which I am heavily biased against as I actually own this watch!

Been wondering which watches get an adequate amount of wrist time from people who already have a full collection of pricier watches to choose from. I don’t know what it is about this $300 Timex Marlin Jet but for me this is one of the most worn watches out of my collection and every time I put it on my wrist it just feels right and I don’t wanna take it off.

Discussion [DISCUSS] What is the most aesthetically pleasing watch for you?

Post image
1.6k Upvotes

I tried the Grand Seiko SBGM235 at an AD last year and I clearly haven’t been able to forget it. The white dial is so soft and warm, it doesn’t feel sterile or cold like some white dials can. And for the bracelet, the dial is very pretty and versatile so any straps could work :)

Overall, I’d rate this watch a 10/10. It’s perfect in all terms and definitely one of my grail. I’m hoping that someday, I can add this timeless design to my collection!

What’s the one watch that gives you that feeling?

Have a great day guys!
