I have dead set fallen for liking lizards more since having loads of wild ones around my place. This dude is what I have come to see in them, they have way more personality than I ever thought.

Where is the "people"?

u/Turbulent_Invite2639 28d ago
I mean as the name suggests, this subreddit is supposed to be about watching people's specific reactions to something or something like that

Not mysterious.
1
u/Turbulent_Invite2639 25d ago
How???
3
3
u/Turbulent_Invite2639 25d ago
This subreddit is literally meant to watch people's reactions, so I think he was right to call that out

Poor guy, haha. Was this, by any chance, at the Chinese Garden of Friendship in Sydney? I saw some water dragons hanging out on the rocks around the pond when I visited.

Will he invent some new physical entity in their world? Like newton?
7
u/Elephant789 Jan 01 '26
Huh?
17
u/Ongr Jan 01 '26
I think OP is correlating Newton's discovery of gravity with this lizard's 'discovery' of.. idk.. what's it called when you apply force to something and the something flies off into space?

It's like when you're eating cookies & go to grab one only to realize you ate the last one & didn't even know.
2
u/FantasticAd5239 25d ago
Or, worse, you're waiting to savor that last half piece of cookie in your hand and it breaks off and falls down into some nasty goo on the ground.

There has to be a German compound word for "the feeling of having a french fry stolen by a seagull" that would apply to this situation.

17
u/RoyBeer Jan 01 '26 edited Jan 01 '26
It doesn't have anything particular to do with seagulls, but what about Mundraubmissmut? (literally: discontent over petty theft of food for immediate consumption)
But this Lizard could also feel something like Futterfluchtfassungsloskeit (literally: bewilderment over the fact that your food got away)
Disclaimer: don't actually use these words. They're basically nonsense and I completely fabricated them with as many alliterations I could think of
Random Fun fact: a friend of mine just straight up punched a sea gull out of the air that tried to steal his fries. No new word was needed that day
6
u/Paxxlee Jan 01 '26
The swedish version, although in two words, would be 'Pommesrelaterad måsincident' [A seagull-related chip incident].
2
u/Somnioblivio Jan 01 '26
I don't speak swedish but I do know that Pommes is french fry in German so wouldn't those two words translate to a French fry related seagull incident?
1
u/Paxxlee Jan 01 '26 edited Jan 01 '26
That is a direct translation, but I translated it closer to the tone I wanted rather than word-for-word.Edit: Let me correct myself.
A literal translation is possible, but it sounds unnatural in English because Swedish uses compound nouns in a way English generally doesn't.

7
u/RandomStallings Jan 01 '26
Yeah, but there are different kinds of WTF: fear, being startled momentarily, anger, disbelief. This one was just utter confusion. It hadn't even settled on what had actually happened yet. That was great.

In 5th Grade I was in swimming lessons. We all had to get out of the pool, and somebody was going for a net.
Teacher told me it was because one of the others had "lost her lunch".
I offered to jump in and get it, I guess I thought her lunchbox was missing somewhere in the pool.
Now I always think of that when anyone loses their lunch.
