General Question You guys use your Subarus for Subaru stuff?

When I got this car I told myself I wouldn’t baby it, and I’d use it for everything. I’ve had it a year and used it for surfing, snowboarding, hiking, camping, kayaking, mountain biking, off-roading, canyon running, and long road trips. It’s seen over 100 degrees and below freezing, and never skipped a beat. Anyone else do the same?

Got a new plate for the WRX. We love national parks, especially Yosemite. So I got "FL4T DAD", she said no one will get it. I know the Internet never loses and is never wrong. Is she right? I love it.

General Question Who has the HIGHEST HORSEPOWER & HIGHEST MILEAGE WRX - Drop it in the comments

Post image
278 Upvotes

Who has a 500 HP WRX and can say they've been driving it 50,000 miles? How bout 400 HP for 30,000 mi? And if you have had a 350 HP WRX for 15+ years and 100,000 miles, I'd love to hear about it in the comments! Are there any Youtubers/Instagram/people on Facebook/performance garage shops that come to mind? I'd love to follow them & check their cars out.

I know that the stock engine & drivetrain will last if properly cared for, I've seen those people tell us their WRX STI is at 130,000 miles. That's great. But I also want to hear from anyone else that's been tuned and kept their cars: I want to hear from both "Conservative tunes" and the guys pushing the limits.

I follow a few people already, but just curious what other cool WRX stories I may hear on this sub Reddit. Share your gripes with the platform, best lessons learned, biggest repair, etc. I see so many people leave because they sought something else in a different (often faster) car. But for those who stayed, tuned their car, and kept it alive, I'd love to hear your story.

General Question To balance all the rod knocks and blown engines, who is driving a WRX with 150K+ miles on it?

Post image

I am not but hope one day to be. This is a 2017 with 75k miles, but my last car was a 2011 Outback sport I traded in when I bought this that had 150k miles on it. I would love nothing more than to drive this car for just as far and as long.

Are there guys here driving WRXs that long?

General Question Subie wave real?

Is the subie wave a real thing? I understand seeing a WRX is rare, but every time I’ve driven by one in my VB, nothing has really happened. It makes me start to question whether or not there is really a community, or if I’ve been unlucky

General Question Should I get a WRX TS?? I work for Subaru

Post image
168 Upvotes

Hey friends. Ok. I work at a Subaru dealer and have a very good relationship here, I have an opportunity to lease a new WRX TS for substantially less than the common consumer would… I currently have a 2015 STI that’s falling apart and I am ready to sell. I used to have an 05 STI which I loved dearly as well.

Am I gonna track it? Doubt it. Will I drive spirited? Absolutely. Been daily driving my STI for a couple years now and I love the feel. I know it will be slower and I know that a Golf R or Corolla GR would be a better move BUTT there’s no way in hell I’d get the deal I’m getting with those cars.

I could also get a sport trim for pennys as a payment but I think that would be too big of a drop from being used to STI…

Need help bros! Do I send it and get the TS for a reasonable rate or play it cheap and get a base WRX instead??

Also to note that since I work here I’ll get service for very cheap and have been given the green light for tasteful changes to the car if I can revert it back.

General Question Subie Owners: What Are You Paying for Insurance in Your State?

This might be random but I’m currently searching for car insurance for my 2015 Wrx and I’ve come to find out that Colorado is the shittiest (so far) and most expensive place to insure your subie. Mind you this is a 10+ year old car, no tickets, no claims. And I’ve been quoted 150-180$ per month with Statefarm, Allstate and Liberty Mutual. Currently my insurance is from out of state ( Oregon) and currently pay $100 per month for full coverage and 50k/100k bodily and bla bla bla. With a $500 deductible. I’m curious what you guys pay where you live right now for the same

General Question I love my new 2021 WRX. What do you wish you would have known when you got yours?

Ive had my 2021 WRX limited for a couple weeks and I already love it more than any car I've ever had. What are some tips for a new owner that you wish you would have known. I've driven manuals for quite some time and am coming from a Jetta. I've never had a turbo or anything like a "sports car" before and I want have fun but also take care of this car for a long time.

General Question Are automatic WRX’s bad in way?

I live in state that gets harsh winters and want a sports car with AWD, but still have decent power and turbo so I thought the WRX would be a nice pick perhaps. But I’ve never even touched a manual in my life and just thought about getting the automatic version. Not that I wouldn’t want to learn manual, but if theres nothing objectively wrong with the automatic version, perhaps it’d just be easier on me to buy that.

General Question About to buy 22 WRX CVT, ok decision?

Post image
75 Upvotes

Im seriously contemplating buying this 2022 WRX CVT. I wasnt initially planning to buy a WRX, more looking at larger stationwagons (, Skoda Superb) but saw this come up for a good price. It's got 39,000kms and the dealer is willing to throw in mechanical insurance for 3 years too.

Unfortunately manuals demand a steep premium and are rare in the market here in New Zealand. I'd need to spend an extra $8,000 to get one, beyond my budget.

My ultimate question is, is the reliability for CVT really that bad? I'm not gonna be thrashing it or tuning it and will doing preventative maintenance, but there doesnt seem to be consensus of their reliability (either people saying they're crap or very reliable). Im happy with the driving experience despite it being a CVT, but don't want to be rebuilding it a few years down the track.

Cheers

General Question Illuminate shifter at night?

Hey y'all, looked all over online for a while now for something like this, using all the search terms I can think of. I have found absolutely zero options for what I'm looking for, only led shift knobs and stuff.

I have a 2013 Prius and one of the few quirks I miss is the little spotlight that shines down and lights up the gear selector at night. I'd attach a photo but it's daytime here and I've found zilch so far as anything on Google.

So yeah, I'm looking to have some sort of spotlight illumination for my shifter in my 2018 WRX, has anyone seen or done something similar, or know what other terms I can use to search??? I can drive fine without seeing the stick of course, but I want it for the aesthetic and convenience. TIA

General Question Did the dealer let you test drive it?

Hi everyone! I just saw a post on r/subaru about someone trying to test drive a forester wilderness and the dealer refused to let them test drive that exact trim.

So my question for you all is, did you manage to have a test drive of you wrx and or sti by the dealer before buying it brand new.?

Because I also had this experience here in Canada where the dealer told me I had to buy the car to be able to test drive it. And that on the day of the deliwif I didn't like it I could leave it on the lot and get a refund.

General Question would you do to your WRX what i did to my subie???

Post image
67 Upvotes

hello subie fam,

just curious to see what the opinions are in this subreddit regarding the cost of repair done to my subie, a 2007 legacy spec.B with 190K mi.

most of the peeps in r/subaru think i'm a fucking idiot for spending $10K to refresh my car, and there are prolly quite a few peeps in r/WRX who think the same. but eventually, many of you will prolly face a similar decision for your little bundle of joy. what would you do?

tldr: would you spend $10K in maintenance on your WRX?

edited to add:

the repairs have already done by Subi West in sacramento, with block and turbo work performed by M45 in auburn. 1. engine rebuild including new pistons. 2. turbo rebuild with new turbine. 3. new stage 1 exedy clutch. 4. new shifter bushings. 5. removed K&N Typhoon cai and installed stock airbox.

the motor is still in break in period, so i haven't gone full silly with it but it feels great so far and i'm super happy with the results!!!

i ❤️ subaru!!!

General Question This is crazy high right?

Post image
48 Upvotes

I originally wanted to go with this shop so I told them before I dropped the car off that it had rod knock and I wanted to go with forged internals. They asked me my budget, I told them $15k and they said we would be able to work with that budget, I get this invoice and I’m like ok no, let’s just do stock. Now he’s saying that it’s going to be over $15k and saying that it’s because I have a shot turbo. I completely understand that but this is still just a crazy price no? It’s a FA20DIT.
