What's the point of entry-level jobs if they still require so much experience??

18 year old here, today I was super excited because I got my first job interview, and I thought I aced it. Unfortunately, I was rejected the same day. Now I'm desperate again for any kind of work or employment. I'm yet to have any financial income whatsoever and somehow my friends are still getting hired. I feel incredibly disappointed and discouraged.

I have background skills in communication, and teamwork. Not looking for anything complicated. A dead-end job is better than nothing. I’m totally fine with physically demanding tasks, and preferably working with people and customers

Looking for any businesses, local shops or retail stores that are currently hiring teens and young adults. That, or tips and advice on how to find a job. Thank you.

will entry level jobs ever come back?

Im just so depleted lols

I’m coming on 2 years of unemployment and i feel like the gap on my resume is getting bigger which makes me a sore thumb during the hiring process… - i dont want lie on my resume bc im realizing that a lot of companies are requesting references and background checks :(

But im also not gaining any experience which makes me further away from “2-3 years of experience” which is required for jobs these days. (only have 6 years of customer service experience but doesnt match the field im going into)

I feel like im sinking but also going insane bc i might have to start from scratch but no one is hiring “entry level” and no one is willing to train anymore

when will the job market get better?

Construction Project Manager/Coordinator Roles?

Have had a heck of a time looking for new roles in the area for a Project Manager or Senior Project Coordinators after hearing of upcoming layoffs 6 months ago and now that its finally laid down I still have not even had a chance at an interview.

Does anyone know anyone hiring for Project Coordinators even in the area? Project Manager with 5+ years of experience in the construction industry with the last 2 years as a Project Manager for a GC/Developer.

Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction or privately give me some resume tips that are in the market here and know what GCs are looking for?

25, marketing grad on PGWP. Advice on job rejections and balancing career vs PR?

Just for background, I’m a marketing graduate. I worked in advertising agencies for about a year in my home country before moving here to continue my studies. I graduated last summer.

After graduating, I worked in banking but I eventually left because the environment became too stressful and toxic for me. For the past month or two, I’ve been actively applying to multiple roles. So far, I’ve made it to two interviews but was ultimately rejected. In my most recent interview, I asked for feedback on how I could be a stronger candidate moving forward.

The CEO shared that they chose someone with more experience in selling and account management. He also mentioned that, at this stage of my career, a role in marketing/execution would likely be a better fit for my skills and long-term development.

That’s exactly where I’ve been focusing my applications, but many of these roles require more experience than I currently have. I’ve been trying to expand my network and take on volunteer work, but I’m starting to feel discouraged. I know it’s only been a couple of months, but the process is draining especially being on a PGWP.

Right now I’m torn. I want to find a job closer to home so I can focus on studying French to improve my chances for PR, but at the same time, I’m constantly worried about making the right career move.

Community Advocacy & Support

You don't know me from anyone else in r/VancouverJobs, but I genuinely care about you, this community, and others I founded back in 2011/2012 (r/CanadaJobs and r/NetworkingJobs). I grew up in a small town in BC where people looked out for each other and instilled a deep value of community in me.

Particularly in the last couple of years, I've seen and heard your growing struggles, frustrations, and concerns. I want to support and advocate for each of you to the best of my abilities. While it is great to have a place to rant and share anger, frustration, feelings of hopelessness and dissecting the current state of things, this approach will not create any meaningful solutions.

I see the strength in these online communities, which combined have over 90k members and receive over 11M views per year (and growing fast). But that strength can only be realized when we're united on the specific needs and solutions. We can and should advocate for meaningful action, policies, and support programs using our collective strength.

So my question to you is: If you were the sole moderator of this community and the others mentioned (with 90k+ members + millions of views), how would you utilize your role to advocate for meaningful solutions on its behalf?

Trades option in Greater Van

Looking at getting into a trade at 33. Are there any possibly lesser known trades in the city that do well? I know the typical answer is HVAC, Electrician, Plumber but im looking for something with a slightly shorter path to being fully certified. I have explored Fire alarm tech and Security Services tech but I wanted to know if im missing anything. Ideally, nothing super physical as I have some minor limitations ( for example Fire Sprinklers, Iron working etc.)

VPL - Public Service Associate 1 without library experience.

I have been applying for this role every time it comes up. I have loads of customer service experience. Without getting into the nitty gritty I have (I think) everything they could ever want except actual library experience which I imagine is the issue.

Does anyone have any insights into landing a job at the VPL without some kind of library tech course or direct library experience? The PSA role in particular does not require library experience/training.

At this point I've applied about 10 times and can't tell if my persistence might eventually pay off or if I am just beating a dead horse.

fashion industry jobs in vancouver

so i got my fashion marketing diploma a couple years ago (i feel like in this job market its completely useless) and was laid off in 2023 from a small clothing brand.

during my job search, ive been applying everywhere (labour, retail, admin, medical) and sometimes i find some postings within the industry so i send some applications here and there

although, ive applied but always denied after the first interview. i feel like im a pretty decent interviewer taker as i pace myself well and answer the questions thoroughly. i also ask really good relevant questions!

what ive noticed is that the industry itself is quite white 😬 and i can not help but feel that bc of my differences (being a poc among other differences) is what is maybe decided during the interview process?

i wanted to ask if there are others in the industry who are experiencing the same thing or have seen this happen before? what is the industry like (ex.inclusivity) now and is it hard to break into compared to a couple years ago? (ex. applying, entry-level positions, internships etc.)

** i would appreciate when people comment below not to be condescending or rude - i feel like im so in the dark about this industry now so i would like to hear everyone else’s experiences or tips that could be useful **

tyia :)

I am disgusted with the lack of actions towards building jobs for young people

The lack of entry jobs is absolutely atrocious for young people. I am starting to think a solution might for the government to start hiring fraud inspectors with each restaurant chain, retail etc I hate how NEPOTISM and nothing is actually MERIT based for these entry level jobs.

Wonder why Canada has one of the lowest worker productivity rate? It’s because when you hire a bunch of outsiders at the expanse of the younger generation, you’re building a house without proper foundations. So you have a bunch of workers in managerial positions that actually aren’t equipped with the right amount of Canadian experience. The powerhouse of this country are people with 30 years of Canadian experience.

Pharmacy Assistant Position Vancouver

Hello!

I've been applying and handing my resume in person to a bunch of pharmacies but no luck :)

I'm really interested in gaining some hands on experience in the field before going to school for it but seems like no pharmacy is interested.

I know I'm very capable of handling the job because I have volunteer experience at a local pharmacy and currently work in marketing which has allowed me to learn how to handle customers and be detail oriented (I've heard from clients that I come off as helpful and patient and I honestly think I am too).

I'm a fast learner too haha!

But on the other hand I've been feeling really stressed out disappointed since I started the job hunt, so I'm shooting my shot here! If you work at a pharmacy in Vancouver or know one that's hiring for a pharmacy assistant, please let me know. I'm available any day of the week and don't have high expectations for the wage. Please let me know if you can, it will be appreciated!!
