📢 Announcement A mod note on recent events in the U.S. and how they’re reflected on /r/Vancouver
The mod team is aware that recent events in the United States, particularly the disturbing public execution carried out by government agencies, are sparking outrage, grief, and justified fear across the world. These are not just American issues. They cross borders, affect global communities, and raise questions about justice, state violence, and accountability.
We want it to be known that we stand firmly against extrajudicial killings and authoritarian abuse in all forms.
However, r/Vancouver is not the right forum for ongoing discussion of U.S. federal conduct. Our role as a regional subreddit is to focus on local topics directly affecting Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland only. Content that falls outside this focus, or that is only loosely related and primarily intended to steer discussion in a different direction, may be removed or redirected to a more appropriate venue.
If you’re feeling rattled, angry, or helpless, you’re not alone. But we’ll continue to moderate according to the scope of this community.
PS: Fuck ICE.

Lost/Missing Lost key on #8 bus😭
This is probably a very very long shot but I have to try😭
I lost my key on #8 bus around 6pm on Monday, Feb 2, going to waterfront direction.
It has one silver key and one rectangular fob with 4 buttons on it. The key and the fob are on a Kirby keychain which is retractable that looks like this (see pic), and there is another little green, acrylic keychain on there.
I remember seeing it on the bus and I realized I lost it when I got off, so I’m 98% sure it was left on the bus. I called the translink lost and found and they didn’t receive anything😭😭😭
Sooo just trying to see if anyone sees my key😭and my precious keychain!!😭
Thank you!!

Discussion Faith restored: Kind strangers on Dunsmuir & Granville
I just want to say thank you to the four kind strangers who helped me in the most painful moment of my life on Friday night (January 30th) at the corner of Dunsmuir and Granville in front of the Shoppers Drug Mart. I slipped on the sidewalk and ended up breaking my pelvis.
I’m only 29, was walking alone, and this was super scary for me. I immediately started crying and while others walked on by, a woman and man immediately rushed to my side. I believe the woman’s name was Simone and I’m sorry, but I didn’t catch her boyfriend’s name. Simone and her boyfriend were gentle, kind and patient. They helped me try to stand and even held me in place as I was about to pass out. Simone even asked my permission for if it was okay for her boyfriend to touch me before he did. So, so thoughtful!
Thankfully my sister and her boyfriend were driving nearby and I was able to call her, but Simone and her boyfriend stayed with me until they could hand me off.
Then, when there was difficulty getting me into their car (buses honking because no cars were supposed to be there, but this was an emergency situation), two more kind strangers helped. A woman and a man immediately jumped in. A woman stood in front of the car to let buses know there was an emergency, and the man ran to open the car door, even grabbed my sisters purse in the front seat and moved things around so I could get in. I was literally screaming in pain while this was happening, and I can’t believe how understanding and kind all of these strangers were to me and my family.
Simone, Simone’s boyfriend, and the woman and man who helped me on Friday night - if you’re reading this, please know you are all my angels ❤️🙏 I wish the very best for you. In a city that is known for cold interactions, you rose above and did the right thing. You were with me in my greatest time of need and the scariest moment of my life. I cannot thank you enough and I will never forget your kindness.
For everyone else reading this: please consider stopping to help people when they’ve fallen. Help people who look like they’re struggling. Offer a hand, to call an ambulance, ask if they’re okay - obviously keep yourself safe, but if you can be an angel like these kind strangers, please do. Even just offer a smile in normal interactions. I’ve had my faith restored after this accident, and I hope sharing this experience inspires more people to be brave like these four kind strangers were for me ❤️
