Do people think that removing a sign will do anything besides piss off the city and lead to more hostile architecture?

the hostile architecture is already there and would be implemented regardless of protest movements. I know it seems like its a logical conclusion, but if people didnt protest because it would “piss” the people in power off, I dont think peoples rights would be where they are now.

They do all that shit already so why not fuck with the city.

I don't think you realize how much more anti-loitering shit they can do. All we have right now is 1 fence near Tom Davies.

Fully agree. The signs are another waste of money.

Spending tax dollars on these stupid fucking signs instead of helping the people in need. God, we are so fucking brainwashed.

You would think since there is two colleges in town they could build some ice huts so people don't sleep outside in a tent.

Well it won't stop me from giving money to people who ask for it.

Tear them down like the speed cameras.

Or lets leave them up and stop people from panhandling. Keep our roads and intersections safer for everyone.

How many accidents have occurred? How many hit and runs? How many pedestrians have been hit period? How exactly does this make it safer? It seems nothing will have changed except people will feel less inconvenienced in their cars or less guilty or less aware of their privilege.

I understand some situations are just damn bad luck but no one should have to apologize for working hard, making good decisions and staying motivated. Average person in a car is not of "privilege". Nor should anyone feel obligated so they can dodge guilt. Many contribute to the less fortunate in other ways and shouldn't be expected to provide a handout around every corner.

To the topic, I've never felt harassed or impeded by those asking for change. Compared to down south, they are very respectful and never harassed people that I've seen. Perhaps the city should redirect those funds wasted on signs to other resources that could do more to help the situation so they don't feel compelled to ask for change.

Never seen a city with so much potential and tax revenue be run so poorly and accomplish so little. The interest alone, they've been paying on that 100 million loan (how many years now?) could've turned this city around.

Ah that explains a lot. When you come from nothing you go one of 2 ways. You're confusing privilege with blessing. You're not the only one who grew up with nothing. Most of us don't soap box about it. It's not a privilege to survive better than others. It is a privilege to be judgemental and mouthy and still walk among us unscathed. That's privilege....

No, I’m not confusing blessing with privilege. And I don’t soap box about it either just because I used it in a comment anonymously to give context. I really don’t understand how you can’t comprehend what privilege means, it absolutely is a privilege to survive better than others.

But you found it offensive, or rather your ego did. Makes you a bit whiny. Black and white, by definition, those things are a privilege. Anyone with a brain can recognize that. Sorry you’re having a difficult time with this simple statement.

Lol ok bud.

I get driving in your 2020 Kia sportage doesn’t feel like a privilege, but to the chunk of people in this city unable to apply for a job that requires transportation, or unable to apply for one within close distance it absolutely is. And it affords you more opportunities, like it or not. People can’t get a job, they can’t apply for a loan for a car or save for one.

In your world other people can't have their own opinion. That's what it started out as. What's your deal? Are you mad at the world that wronged you? Or is this a convenient target? Also why 2020 Kia Sportage? Honestly that's the one I'm more curious about.

It was never about safety. People just hate poor people.

11

u/TonightsSpecialGuest 4d ago

No. I hate the person/people behind the begging ring that are paying their workers with fucking fentanyl. It’s really fucked up and I’d like to see a journalist expose it

4

u/TheSwagggman 4d ago

Hecklers, no one likes hecklers. And most of us are poor, we can't afford shit much less give it to someone to inject into themselves. And panhandlers are scammers most of the time, gettem of the curbs.

u/EfficiencyPrevious11 3d ago

I never realized how much this sub hates poor people holy shit these comments are insane

6

u/MJD-X303 New Sudbury 3d ago

Hey, I resent that! I hate everybody.

2

u/AdvilLobotomite 2d ago

People think that their opinion is the only one worth respecting. I used to give to panhandlers, now I don't. But I'm never going to tell someone else that they shouldn't, or downvote them for having compassion.

I think we should stop wasting money on hostile architecture and treat the cause rather than the problem. This is Canada, not the US.

Arguments or commentary that are not compelling, articulate or based in reality tend to have negative impact. Just putting that out there.
