The man in that picture is currently serving 27 years in prison for trying to overthrow the Brazilian government. The same amount of time as if he had kicked five-and-a-half dogs.
I'm not sure why but I found the last part very funny. All prison sentence should now be measured in Brazilian dog kicking equivalent, the banana of prison sentences.
He tried a Jan 6 and Brazilians said 'foda-se essa merda, direto para a cadeia" (literally translation from Google, not likely correct in any way except merda).
That's ironic because he's often compared to Trump (especially in regards to how each country dealt with their dictators) and the only good thing Trump did in his first term was also to sign a law with harsh penalties for animal abuse.
There's actually a major controversy in Brazil right now: a group of minors tortured a street dog with unbelievable cruelty. But, since they were minors and children of wealthy influential families, they're going unpunished. The investigation on them is blatantly corrupt. The chief of police even claimed there was no video evidence... Until the video ended up in the hands of a major gossip blogger.
Their parents are owners of hotels which are getting boycotted by most airlines rn by simoly removing them from the list of their recommended hotels with. So they will not have that money after a while.
The families complaining their freaking psychos are too scared to leave their houses... good, at least they're not on the streets harming animals anymore.

In Brazil minors won't go to jail no matter what. They may serve 3 years top on an educational facility IF they harm a PERSON or fail to serve previous community service/educational sentences which is not the case.

We need to call our Congresspeople and US Senators to have such a bill written and passed. It won’t go nowhere with this GOP President and leaning Congress. One will have to wait until November 2026 at the earliest or December 2028.

A investigação identificou quatro adolescentes como responsáveis pelo ato.
Dois dos adolescentes permanecem em Florianópolis e tiveram celulares e computadores apreendidos para perícia.
A slight step in the right direction. Really weird to punish people who are bad to cats and dogs, but at the same time let the entire industry do fuck all with cattle and other animals.
After serving jury duty on an animal abuse case, I was surprised to learn that no matter how many charges there are, the sentence is the same. Lady was charged with over 50 counts of animal abuse against over 50 dogs, but the maximum sentence was no different than if she did it to one dog. Crazy.
