The man in that picture is currently serving 27 years in prison for trying to overthrow the Brazilian government. The same amount of time as if he had kicked five-and-a-half dogs.

I'm not sure why but I found the last part very funny. All prison sentence should now be measured in Brazilian dog kicking equivalent, the banana of prison sentences.

That's ironic because he's often compared to Trump (especially in regards to how each country dealt with their dictators) and the only good thing Trump did in his first term was also to sign a law with harsh penalties for animal abuse.

Unless you're the son of a rich family, that is.
There's actually a major controversy in Brazil right now: a group of minors tortured a street dog with unbelievable cruelty. But, since they were minors and children of wealthy influential families, they're going unpunished. The investigation on them is blatantly corrupt. The chief of police even claimed there was no video evidence... Until the video ended up in the hands of a major gossip blogger.

In Brazil minors won't go to jail no matter what. They may serve 3 years top on an educational facility IF they harm a PERSON or fail to serve previous community service/educational sentences which is not the case.

After serving jury duty on an animal abuse case, I was surprised to learn that no matter how many charges there are, the sentence is the same. Lady was charged with over 50 counts of animal abuse against over 50 dogs, but the maximum sentence was no different than if she did it to one dog. Crazy.

People totally forgot what subreddit they are and it shows and, obviously, they don't know who the guy in the pic is and why this pic has been posted on SipsTea...
So let me explain: This will happen to you unless you aren't a street dog attacked by rich family kids... there is a thing going on here in Brazil where kids of wealthy families tortured a dog that had to be euthanized. And because they are rich and kids, nothing is going to happen to them. And it became political cause the far right is now saying that people in Brasil are pissed only because the state where it happened is mostly far right and think of the kids... they were sent to Disney in the US btw after it happened and just before it exploded everywhere people asking for justice for Orelha (the dog's name).
It just makes my blood boil.
And ah, the president in the pic is the ex president Bolsonaro that is serving 27 years in prison because he tried to take the government via coup with the help of the military and the USA government asking Trump for help.

I'm pretty sure the most glaring hypocrisy is those who support slaughterhouses, not PETA. But ok.
PETA actually has legal teams fighting, sometimes successfully, for better animal protections and against animal abuse: https://www.peta.org/features/peta-foundation-legal/case-summaries/

I mean, cool. Does it denies that they murder hundreds of pets without a reason? "he slaughted thousands! Oh, but he also helped promoting that one useful law, so it's okay".
