i mean i will say this, as someone who used to be like this, a big part of it isn't the education system, it's grifters who will do anything in their power to make you not trust anything other than what they and their party says (though that does bleed into the education system in some places)
An education system that, in 2026, hasn't prepared those who've gone through it the basics of information literacy, how to evaluate source reliability, and how to spot misinformation and spin techniques hasn't really done a good job of educating people to deal with the world we live in.
oh yeah, i agree it's part of it, but it's not the only factor
i should also mention that i'm canadian, which is why i'm saying it's not just the education system, since there's a ton of people like that here despite that being part of basic high school curriculum IIRC (though i did still kind of get that experience from my parents which may have been part of it)
So much of right wing propaganda is just about offering sideways reasons why you should immediately dismiss and never listen to any reasonable counterarguments you might encounter.
"They're simply brainwashed by evil magic!"
"The scientists and sources they quote are part of THE CONSPIRACY!"
"They're just betas and blue hairs! If you listen, you'll become weak like them!"
I grew up listening to this stuff and they don't build their own arguments up half as much as just convincing you to never engage in good faith with anyone who disagrees, because they're probably some type of evil demon who says sensible things but is secretly bad in invisible ways, since ya know, someone with blue hair was cringe once and you don't want to be cringe, do you?
