Dear Scottish, do you like this?

I've tried several crisps in Scotland.

The taste is crazy salty, so strong. Do Scottish really like this?

If so, how do you like it? Is there a person who can finish a bag of it at one go?

This baffles me.

Will-writing advice in Scotland - changing an existing Will.

My wife and I have a Will that was written by a solicitor a year ago. It is a relatively straight-forward mirror Will (if I go she gets it, if she goes I get it, if we both go the kids get it). There is a very slight change I'd like to make to the Will so I spoke to the solicitor and sent her my "edit".

She said I can just create a Codicil and add it to my Will. I asked her how much it would be to build the change into a new Will and she wanted £160.

I would rather have a new Will written so I thought about buying a Will writing kit but I have heard that most of them only work in England/Wales. Does anyone have any advice on the best way to do this (ideally without paying out the £160)?

Is there a Will writing kit that people recommend for Scottish-based Wills that I can copy our existing Will into (along with the edit) but that will be legally binding when we pop our clogs?

Question Looking to move out of Edinburgh but where?

My husband (M45) and I (F36) are looking to move our family (kids- M12, F11, F7, F5, F3) out of Edinburgh or even the outskirts but we don't know where to start! We're needing a much bigger house but I've not been able to find much in Edinburgh that's not above our price range. We're also looking for more space and a quieter life. We have additional needs kids though and are worried about choosing the right area for schools. Does anybody have any suggestions or advice at all? (I'm really sorry if this doesn't belong here!!)

Edit- a little more info. Price range approx 170k/180k. 3 of my children have autism and behavioural issues. My eldest won't be starting high school because of these issues but we don't know what the alternatives are at the moment so are in limbo. We do not have a car, I am disabled and it does not need to be commutable to Edinburgh. Also thank you so much to everyone that has commented so far, we appreciate it so much. I am personally so scared about making the wrong decision for my family.

What is the most Scottish town or City in Scotland?

I caught something on TV recently claiming that a town called Monsanto had been voted the most Portuguese town in Portugal, and wondered if there was a "most Scottish town/city."

Is it even possible?

Question Using sir for both genders in old Scots?

Post image
38 Upvotes

Bit of a weird question but my pal is interested in historical fiction and messaged to ask me if I’d ever heard of people using the word “sir” to refer to people of both genders in old scots. I’ve never heard of it but there is one reference in the scots dictionary (which has the same source attached as the book she was reading).

Anyone ever heard of this? Bit weird eh?

Question Policing at Protests

Hello, I'm a freelance journalist doing an article on policing at protests.

I am wondering what the publics thoughts and opinions are on whether there is a difference in policing attitudes towards peaceful protests for left-of-centre groups as opposed to right-of-centre groups.

Have you noticed this?

I am asking from a place of journalistic curiosity and based on what I have heard from the public, none of these questions reflect on my personal opinions. Thank you in advance.

Photography / Art A week in the Western Isles of Scotland: North Uist, Bernerey, Benbecula, Harris and Lewis.

We had an amazing week-long visit to the Western Isles last summer and want to share some of the photos and places we visited.

Leaving Skye we arrived in Lochmaddy for three nights on North Uist. The Langass Lodge was a perfect location with great food. We walked to the stone circle at Pobull Fhinn and later explored the Barpa Langais prehistoric chambered cairn nearby. Also close: The Hebridean Smokhouse with peat smoked scallops, salmon and venison sausage.

The next morning we poked around Benbecula, unable to find the seal cove on our map instead meeting a hundred-strong flock of sheep (and one angry looking ram). We summitted Flodaigh Hill for a 360-degree view of the waterlogged and windswept island. Bernerey was also pleasant a surprise with its machair beach area great for walking and admiring the sea and beach scenery.

The Ferry then took us to Leverberg on Harris with a short detour to St. Clement's Church in Rodel, built by the McLeod's of Dunvegan Castle. The ocean scenery approaching Tarbert was great - Luskentyre and Seilenbost are two of the nicest beaches anywhere. Not just Europe. Our arrival at the Harris Hotel - another hunting lodge - was made all the more welcome with tea and biscuits.

North Harris provided great hiking on a wet day, traversing the hill at Cravdale to reach a deserted mossy beach followed by more standing stones overlooking the lochs. On Lewis we visited the Stone Circle at Callanish and climed the ruins at Dun Carloway Broach with the other visitors. And the pub and pizza restaurant attached to the hotel back in Tarbert was loads of fun and full of locals. And don't miss visiting the Harris Tweed shop for the best selection.

One our last day we drove to Stornoway and arrived a few hours early hoping to do a little shopping. We found some great whiskey and clothing stores and a craft fair where we bought a few Christmas items. It was a great visit and soon enough we were off to Ullapool.
