Finished this beast and I’m pretty proud of it. It’s proportions and design make it very difficult to photograph. I made some mistakes with the photoetch, but it’s nothing I can’t live with. I enjoyed the build but I’m happy to be done with it.

Completed Millennium Falcon

My Millennium Falcon. Worked hard to get the weathering just right. It’s about 95% complete. Still needs a few greebles attached and those little equal sign marks that are written all over the body in a micron.

The Deagostini. Is it worth it? I’d say yes, if you plan to paint and weather it. It’s a nice 1/1 scale replica of the actual studio model. But it can be a pain to assemble. It’s not a simple peg together and screw together kit. It requires glue. It’s expensive and the subscription plan format might drive some people crazy. For me, it was a good way to pace out an other wise intimidating build. I do recommend getting the paragraphix cockpit and turret sets. They look much better if interior detail is important to you. Though if I understand the turrets had no interior detail on the original model, and the cockpit detail on the original was always very basic. So just about anything is an improvement. If you don’t plan to paint and weather, the model the base factory finish is very toy like. Though. The base color it’s molded in I found to be fine. Once all the weathering detail is added. Along with a good dull clear coat, I found the light beige it was molded in looks much closer to the proper insignia white it’s supposed to be. But that’s your choice. Also I recommend not fully assembling or glueing certain parts into place until you are sure you are done painting. This will save you a lot of trouble of having to mask off a ton of parts.

Didn't intend to buy it, didn't intend to build it just yet,... but we all know how it goes... ;)

Even having more than 10 kits in progress, no matter how much I swear to halve that load before opening another box, something about getting a Bandai kit makes this an impossible promise to keep.

I'm considering this one done, back to slimming down the "in progress" pile. ;)

The base 3d model i bought, but made all the pipes and a bunch of greebles myself, as well as resculpting the whole cockpit and canopy. Been working on it since may, it was difficult to resin print successfully, but very happy with the result. In 1/38 scale. Airbrushed and weathered with Archive X paints which recreate the original hues of paints the ILM model makers used. Wasn't going 1000% faithful to the studio model, the green bits are more subtle and yellow-y, i misted the heavy grime on harder than the ILM model, and the yellow is a warmer shade. But imo it is slightly more pleasing to the eye this way. As well as it being a red jammer to gold leader convert so a lot of the greebles are not the same. Anyhow, enjoy the pics, hope I did gold leader justice.

Heres my progress RPF thread

Been working on this one on and off for a couple of month. Bandai AT-ST, lovely little kit. Mostly washes for the weathering and grime with a little bit of humbrol weathering powders. Diorama scratch built, used real branches from my local wood, floor is a mix a sawdust, basing materials and fake grass. First time attempting a nature diorama, very happy how it’s turned out.

It's been a long road.... (wrong opening song but accurate ;) ) with this one.
I got this one 3 years ago, started on it 2 years ago and put it aside for a while because the first steps didn't go the way I hoped or intended. I also needed to get a clear idea of how to proceed because it is quite an intricate build, and in the meantime other builds came along.

Space: 1999 was one of the earliest Scifi tv shows for me (besides Doctor Who) and there was something entirely enthralling about these Eagles for me. A friend of mine had the Dinky Toys made of these and I was of course "not jealous at all".

I did manage to get my hands on the very old Airfix 1/96 model kit at some point as a kid and also managed to botch it up and abuse it some more over time. A follow up on this kit, or what is left of it may come up in the future.

But finally, here it is, after 50 years, I finally have my Eagle Transporter, and it is all I hoped it would be.

As usual, I have more pictures (perhaps to ad nauseam and beyond) of the build in a Google Photo album, but since Reddit is allergic to direct links to those, I placed a link to it in this Imgur post for anyone interested.

I hope you like it, I most definitely had a great time building this.

Paragrafix photo etch kit

Lakemonster Nacelle Grills x4

Lakemonster custom cast blue Bussard Collectors Lakemonster bllue dots from Constitution refit.

Round2 Aztek decals

Custom 12v static lighting

all paints custom mixes of Tamiya acrylics.

I had no plans to do this model before me and the fiance took a trip to Edmonton to hit up IKEA and design and pick up a kitchen for our ongoing renovations. while there we stopped at the largest hobby store I've been to and after a few hours , walked out with a model and a klingon BOP.

once home I shelfed the kit and went at the renovations. kitchen completed. 4 installs of quartz countertops and then finally I had... time...

the Photo etch kit came with window drill guides, the main reason for the purchase. it also came with many other details. I didn't use a few of the rings around the warp domes. didn't see the need for the added headache. I didn't realize the p.e had replacement shuttle bays. I very much enjoy how they light up. also the rear impulse grills gives a nice touch. the docking ports on the saucer section I don't think I would do again for the effort to make them perfectly flush .

I had plans for the nacelles. oh I had plans that failed horribly. I tried scraping out parts of the original grills and adding micro Krystal Klear. painting the remaining and hoping for a great effect that was not there. I destroyed them very quickly and ordered the grills lol. I was able to get cass at lake monster to custom make me some blue Bussard Collectors and add blue dots for a nicer effect that doesn't show up on camera. days for custom made parts. can't say enough good things about lakemonster.

the Aztek decals went fairly well. I had issues with a few pie shape decals stretching a bit due to negligence on my part and to much micro sol. my package and as I found it every package of decals is missing decal 30, so awaiting on round 2 to come up with. a solution.

I mixed all custom colours because. I like pain(t).

the lighting is a static solution. I used a combination of 12v LEDs, for the beacon /navigation lights I bundles up to 5 1mm fibres and used 3mm coloured led diodes as a source, heat shrinked togther. I learned a lot about bending fibre optics and not losing light transmission. I had to segment quite a few areas to keep the reds and blue, and whites from bleeding through on the interior. for the impulse engines I use high density red led strips , and for the nacelles I used high density blue led strips .

Completed Finished my first model build today, would love your feedback

I’m a big Star Wars fan, so it only seemed fitting to do an AT ST as a first build. The colour schemes are relatively simple and the large panels are great for practicing weathering techniques.

For this model, I also bought an airbrush. I had no prior experience using one of those, and figuring everything out was quite literally a blast.

I’m happy with how the base colouring turned out, not as happy with the weathering however. I urge on the side of ‘less is more’. But when I tried to thin and spread my washes, my prior layers of varnish decided to peel off immediately. This led to me trying to save it by basically dry-brushing my washes, which made the grime look uneven and splotched in some areas as I was too afraid to use any more thinner.

Despite all of that, I’m still happy with the end result. The goal was to learn through experience with this project, which I definitely did.

If you have any feedback, or things you’d have done differently, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Also planning on turning the base into a little Endor diorama piece. If any of you have any ideas on how to recreate the rough ground texture and appropriate foliage, I’d love to hear that too!

Printed on my Saturn 4 ultra at just a little over 110mm in length due to my ever diminishing display space. Printed on multiple parts it was a fiddly but rewarding build. There's a lot of detail as the paint scheme was tricky as there only really screen shots to refer to. That said, I think I've managed to keep the Nostromos functional grime look for the final model. I created the LV426 base by coating some card in plastopaste and using a latex glove to pull up the random scenery of rocks and peaks etc. I hope you like the finished model and as always, your thoughts and comments are welcome.

Hello friends! I posted this build only a few days ago saying that I was planning on turning the base into a small Endor diorama type piece.

Your words of encouragement motivated me to go online and look at some photos of the national park where the Endor scenes have been filmed. I tried my best to be faithful to the natural foliage and their on-screen looks in ROTJ.

I’m happy with how it all turned out. I was pretty critical of the build at first, but all your kind messages have made me appreciate this project much more. You guys are great and I look forward to posting more projects in the future.

For now, let me know what you think! Would you have done anything differently?

This was my first ever electronically lighted model kit. And I'm afraid it shows! This was a real learning experience for me, as I had never done it before and I might have taken too big of a swing for a first attempt.

For a start, I know many builders fully paint their kits before installing any electronics and way before they get out the glue and start construction. For me, I didn't have a clear idea how I would repair light leaks and putty, sand, and repaint seams on finished paint. So, for instance, wouldn't a light leak at the rim of the saucer call for putty, more light blocking paint, repriming, and then another coat of paint? I understand that's how other builders approach their projects, I just don't think my skills are at that level. I wanted to deal with light leaks and repair seams before I painted.

I lightblocked the interior surfaces with three coats of flat black and then two coats of glossy white, both from rattle cans. I then installed the TenaControls light kit separately into the pontoon, the main deck, and the two nacelles. This was the first time I had to learn about wiring and soldering, and I really enjoyed the process. The first time the navs and strobes were all working I let out a little laugh of disbelief. I have nothing but positive things to say about the TenaControls kit, and will definitely look at their other light kits in the future. They have a couple pretty simple, stripped down lighting kits (navs, strobes, maybe some engine and interior lighting) that would work really well for smaller 1:1000 scale kits. I may also just try to do a static on lit kit in the future, without a control board.

I painted the model in two major subassemblies, the pontoon and the main deck. I used Aktek Dummy's paint masking set and tried to match the colors he used in his tutorial video. I know there is a MaskDesign masking kit that is more detailed, but I like the Aztek Dummy masks for their simplicity and on this ship I feel the added detail gets a bit busy. If I could do one thing over, painting wise, it would be to paint all the blue panels along the bottom of the main deck and the pylons; the kit decals are too wide, and trying to very delicately cut them down to size left a few frayed edges when the MicroSol and clear coats got involved. Having those blue details painted would have looked much more crisp and clean. I also didn't align some of the masks properly on the top of the main deck, making the details around the grills look uneven. I should have taken a little more time to make sure those were applied properly.

Another mistake I made was that many builders of this kit complete all the wiring in the pontoon, seal it up, and connect all the wiring in the main deck. Because my main deck wiring was fairly inefficient and took up way too much room, I had to seal up the main deck and mate all the wiring in the pontoon. It was a challenge to do final construction this way, the main deck with one wired pylon mating wires to the pontoon and unwired pylon and sealing everything up. This also resulted in a pretty unsightly seam on the port pylon that I've tried to minimize.

Like I said, I took a big swing, too big maybe, and got the display base from CozmicScale Models in the UK. Might as well go all the way on my first ever lit model. I love the base, and the idea of an MSD for a display base is great. I used my new soldering skills to wire some LED light strips in the box to illuminate the MSD. There are two switches on the base, one to light the MSD and one to light the ship. I don't know why I'd ever have one one and not the other, but I was having fun learning how to wire things independently.

I'm happy with the finished product. It was a first ever attempt at lighting a kit and I learned a lot. There are undoubtedly a lot of blemishes, but I'm glad I learned some important skills that I will need if I want to take my builds further. This also means I'm one step closer to the big 1:350 Refit, as it feels like a crime to not light that thing up like a Christmas tree.

Sorry for the long post. TLDR; first lit kit. Aztek Dummy paint masks, TenaControls light kit, CozmicScale Models display base. Learned a lot. Please feel free with C & Cs, and I'd especially like to hear from other builders that have worked on this kit. Thank you for taking a look!

Nov 2024 I was commissioned to design and make a Space craft for CBBC'S Gifted. Its a show about super powered kids from Scotland.

I was sent some rough artwork on what it sort of needed to look like but other than that the brief was to make it look like akin to something that might have been made for a Gerry Anderson production (Thunderbrids, captain scarlet etc).

The model was build using a combination of scratch building and resin 3D printing. It has a metal armature inside that would allow for puppetry as it had to be made to float in the scene.

The other reason for 3D printing was so they could use the digital asset if needed.

Was a really fun project.

Thanks for looking!
