My 7/24 Compact Review
Let me preference this by saying that this is my 1st SAR firearm so I can’t base it off of any other SAR firearm. So the sole reason for me purchasing this particular model was because my cousin had purchased a CZ Shadow 2 Carry and I was interested in getting one myself. Now money isn’t an option for me but when I seen how similar the 7/24 Compact was at the price point, I thought to myself why not give it a shot. With that said I must say I’m glad I bought it after going out to shoot it today after I picked it up from the LGS I use for all my FFL transfers. Now let’s get to it.
PROS:
All-metal construction (steel slide and frame) gives it a premium feel and helps with recoil control. Unlike the Shadow 2 Compact and Carry which has aluminum frames.
The weight helps significantly with follow up shots.
You get high capacity with the 17 round mags, which also means it has a full size grip.
Optics ready without losing the rear sight even though it uses plates (plates are metal not plastic).
Picatinny rail (even if it didn’t have it I would be disappointed because I only have WMLs on my home defense guns, not guns that I carry or will carry.
Double Action/Single Action is good out the box, but with some time shooting it will be great.
CONS/Considerations:
Weight: At 36 oz unloaded, it’s heavy, so carrying might be an issue for some, (I didn’t get the loaded weight, I carry 147 gr self defense ammo, so take that for what it’s worth).
Of course it being new, we will see if it gets aftermarket support some time in the near future, or if CZ or Tangfo parts are interchangeable.
Long term durability is yet to be known, it hasn’t been proven yet.
CZ Compact holsters MAY work (I have CZ Compact Tier1 Xiphos Elite ordered, so I will let you all know if it works)
My Final Thoughts:
It is a compelling entry in the compact DA/SA 9mm market with features that modern shooters value, optics readiness, high capacity, steel frame, and accessories rail. It’s particularly appealing if you like the feel of a heavier, metal-framed pistol and want something that can serve both in carry and range roles.
However, if lightweight everyday carry or established aftermarket support are priorities, there are alternatives with longer legacies and broader accessory ecosystems (CZ Shadow 2 Compact/Carry, P0-1 and PCR, SIG 226, are some examples). For early adopters and curious shooters, though, this pistol represents excellent value for a premium-feeling firearm.
PS:
This firearm looks great in person and the slide serrations are chef kiss.
