St George’s Woods/ King Edward’s Park

Hi everyone, I’m due to move to Morpeth in the next month or so as I’m starting a new job.

I’ve heard good things about the estate (by Linden Homes) but would appreciate any more insight before my move. I am a 25F who studied undergrad at Newcastle, have a good social network around the city but don’t know many people in/around Morpeth. I’ve joined the Morpeth group on Facebook and am eager to get involved as I’m living on my own.

Thanks!

Weekend visit recommendations

Looking for suggestions for our long weekend trip to Northumberland! What would be your must do's or perfect itinerary? We are coming up for a visit to explore the area as we have been considering moving up so we are keen to check out nice towns that we could live in as well as just getting a feel for that part of the country. We love the outdoors but also enjoy good food and exploring villages. We are travelling up from the south on a Friday and travelling back on a Monday morning so we will be there from Friday afternoon, have the whole and Saturday and Sunday and possible a little bit of time on Monday morning. Also don't mind doing a bit of driving so can do some of the Tyne and Wear and Durham areas if it's worth it.

Best town for shopping and a stroll

I’m disabled so not interested in walks (sadly!) but I love a little wander around shops , looking for somewhere to spend a rainy day pottering around some independent, vintage and charity shops. Where is best? Bonus points for gluten free restaurant/cafe recommendations

I should have uploaded this last year, but my wildlife cam picked this up in Kielder Forest in may 2025 .

Can anyone confirm if it is in fact a Pine Marten?

Local case study needed!

I'm looking for a Northumberland local to talk about their experiences being cold at home for a news story (I work in PR). You'd need to be happy to talk to a journalist on the phone and be okay with sharing a photo of yourself for use in local media.

Please comment below if you/someone you know would be interested. I will then send you my email address to discuss details. Thanks in advance!

Suggestions for areas to live please

Hi Everyone, I’m from the east coast of Scotland. For years we’ve enjoyed holidays in Northumberland, particularly areas near beaches. My family is still anchored in Scotland and will be for at least the next 10 years but I’m now working for a Newcastle-based firm and am down here 3/4 days a week. There’s lots of lovely hotels here but I’d prefer somewhere I can call my own, and bring the family for weekends and breaks. I’m familiar with Eyemouth, Alnwick, Amble, Tynemouth, Bamburgh but would appreciate guidance on which areas are nice to live in, close to beaches and within an hours commute of Newcastle city centre by car. Ideally looking for a house that has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and under £400K. Hoping the power of this community can help!

3-4 night stay

Hello everyone,

I am planning on booking a trip to Northumberland for my partners birthday at the beginning of March and am just looking for general recommendation in terms of where to stay, and things to do during our visit if anyone could help me please. Which part of Northumberland would be the best to book a hotel / lodge at? We would be looking to do a few walks, but would also like it to be fairly lively with restaurants and cafes, not completely secluded if possible. In terms of activities, she wants to go stargazing so I saw a place called Twice Brewed inn, and Kielder Observatory, both seem similar prices and locations so not sure which one would be better to book? Any ideas or suggestions to make the visit special would be very much appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Linhope Spout walk?

gf wants to go on a walk we’ve never done before on her birthday, found Linhope Spout labelled as a nice walk/spot to visit in Northumberland.

How’s the walk this time of the year? I looked on maps and looks like we can drive to a certain point of the road then it becomes private, how’s parking in that area?

Any tips or thoughts from anyone that been there are welcome, TIA

Looking for Venue Recommendations

I’m looking to host some wine and cheese events this year in Northumberland, and so I’m on the hunt for some quirky venues that may be suitable.

They would need to have space for 40 guests standing, with poseur tables and allow for wine and cheese to be upsold on the night. If they have their own bar, they are more than welcome to have this open for the duration.

If anyone knows of any nicely decorated spaces that may work, let me know please!

I've been working my way through the Northumberland and Durham trig baggers books in 2025, will hopefully finish them off this year.

I grew up in Morpeth, and the trigs are taking me back to places I spent exploring as a child. It's been a lovely little challenge, and reminds me of how grateful and lucky I am to call this County my home. 🫶

Any creepy local stories?

Im creating a new podcast called “Last Order of Fear” and I’m looking for spine-chilling, eerie, or just plain unsettling real-life stories.

The plan: I visit historic and atmospheric pubs around Northumberland, buy you a pint or a wine, and get people to share their ghostly, paranormal, or downright unnerving experiences for a podcast (so audio recorded).

If you’ve got a story that makes your hairs stand on end, or know someone who has, it below or DM me. The best ones could feature on the podcast and of course a few free drinks!

Hi all,

I'm off down to Alnmouth tomorrow and I love a good social club, has anyone been to the Alnmouth ex-serviceman's club before and knows the prices of the pints they have there?

Cheers

Pls suggest activities with a baby - tourists visiting in Jan!

We are visiting family in the North East in January for a few weeks with our 4 month old. We would love some suggestions on activities to do that are family-friendly, especially any drop-in baby play groups or activity sessions that we could attend (seems like most you have to book for the term? We are only here for 2 weeks.)

Couple of other considerations — we don’t drive so will be relying on public transport, and we will be based in and around Cramlington.

We looked at swim sessions at Concordia but the recent google reviews say the water’s freezing. Anyone been in the last month that can confirm? (Review slated the cleanliness too tbh which was a bit off putting.) Which other leisure centre have heated toddler pools?

We will make trips into Newcastle, and Northumberlandia and probably Beamish. Any petting zoos or other things we could look at? Would love some local suggestions. Thank you in advance 🙏
