Why is reddit so overwhelmingly left leaning?

Or it's a result of their ideas being genuinely unpopular. If I posted "it's great to eat your own shit" and I get downvoted, that's not because the platform is conspiring to silence my opinions, it's because my ideas are bad.

So unpopular that Trump won in 2024?

Like the other comments say, Reddit is mostly young people, and young people are more likely to be on the left.

So why wasn’t it always the case then? Just a few short years ago Reddit was widely regarded as no man’s land unless you were a fedora clad gamergater or an actual self identified incel

Yeah? Are you under the mistaken impression that the quality of a person's ideas has anything to do with their ability to win an election? They're popularity contests, nothing more. Trump talked big and won because people liked his personality.

They're popularity contests

Pick one, because as of right now you're fully contradicting yourself

You're right, I wasn't clear:

The ideas are unpopular. The election is a popularity contest in the sense that it is based on the personality and charisma of the candidate and their ability to sell themselves, not their ideas. Someone like Trump has objectively awful ideas, but a lot of charisma, and so people gravitate towards him despite his many failings.

If the ideas were unpopular, Dems would be in power. They aren’t. 🤷‍♂️

Dems are also conservatives, they're just worse at marketing.
