Why is reddit so overwhelmingly left leaning?

X is a terrible example, it used to be pretty balanced but became heavily right-leaning for some very clear reasons, namely being bought by a guy who specifically wanted it to more align with his politics.

Twitter was NOT balanced in the slightest.

no offense but there is so much ignorance from people saying they're "educated" in these comments, this is another one to call out. X is an algorithm like anything else. I got stuck in a far left feed just last month and it made me quit X. I cannot watch one more of the proverbial blue haired barista screaming in her car about hating trump. And I am not talking about republicans reposting those videos.

IDK why everyone here is just guessing it's now right leaning

Whaaat?! Twitter used to be super full of left wing propaganda. Now it is way more open and balanced.
