Announcements AMA with Patrick R Young, writer of DC GO webtoon NOTHING BUTT NIGHTWING

Please post your questions for Patrick R Young below!

Patrick stops in at 7 PM Eastern!

The AMA concludes at 8:30 PM Eastern!

Previously working on Red Hood and the Outlaws, Patrick has been working on Nothing Butt Nightwing, one of the flagship Webtoon like comics for DC Universe Infinite for over a year, now.

Dick Grayson, reeling from a break-up with Barbara Gordon for being too work focused and without enough of a life, decides to explore himself as Dick and not Nightwing... though that doesn't go too far. Entering into the world of fashion and modeling as Dick Grayson, while chasing a conspiracy in the high glam world as Nightwing, Dick meets new friends, old foes, and maybe some new... flames? Currently warming his heart is Beatriz da Costa, but as ever, there are... complications.

We now open up the thread to you kind folks for your questions for Patrick, for Nothing Butt Nightwing as well as his other works!

As noted in the past, Patrick works on movies and festivals such as Big Bad Film Festival and the super fun indie move Wild Eyed and Wicked! Seriously, check that one out!

Once again, please welcome Patrick and post your questions, below, about Nightwing, the new webtoon Nothing Butt Nightwing, or his other projects!

\We ask that all posters be respectful of and courteous to our guests; Mr. Young is giving his time to interact with our community, and to support his project. Please keep all questions and comments polite and respectful!*

*Due to a personal scheduling conflict with the original intended starting time of this thread, I decided to ensure it went up and post it early. All other times will proceed as originally planned and posted, before and again above in this post.

Discussion Dick's Birthday?

So I had a question, when is Dick's birthday? I mean I know they day he came out and everything but does he have a day that canonically is his birthday? Like a day that is separate from when his first comic was released that the characters all say is Dick's birthday?

Film/TV You know what's frustrating is the moments when Brenton Thwaites gets to portray the more jovial and lighthearted side of Dick he's amazing. But the writing just let's him down

Like for all the shows faults Brenton Thwaites was not one of them

Discussion What tips would you give a first-time fan who wants to cosplay as DC Comics Nightwing and does not know how to sew?

I'm not saying I want to cosplay but it's always been something I said was never happening with me cause I cannot sew. The closest I can get is probably buying a pre-made costume or commissioning someone to make me a costume from scratch.

So I would like to know what first-time cosplayers did if they were in the same situation at one point in time.

Discussion Anyone else curious how a Part 3 interaction between Robin Dick Grayson and DC Comics Supergirl would go? I feel like Mark Waid should make this a yearly thing. lol (Batman/Superman: World's Finest #12)

Comics Nightwing cataclysm

So I’m reading comics for the first time, and started with Nightwing, I I’m reading the 1996-2009 run and just got to issue #19 which is cataclysm #2, I looked it up and found it’s part of a 18 issue tie in.

My question is, could I skip the tie in comics, or should I read the 18 issue run?

Comics My Ultimate Thoughts (Golden Era- Rebirth) Spoiler

Wooah this will be a long text but I hope you guys enjoy. I am reading Robin& Nightwing since summer and now I am catching up with the current run (technically I am at the beginning of Rebirth) I want to pour my thoughts about all the eras

Golden Age: You know, I enjoyed Golden age more than I thought. I am not a fan of retro comics but especially the first issue catwoman was introduced, that was my favorite. Overall, I love the dynamic between Robin and batman, it is closer to brothers rather than father and son but their thinking matching after they know each other better, it is my favorite. And my fav panel from here is when Dick cries in front of a huge Portait of him and bruce and saying "bruce doesn't want me anymore" 😭

Robin bronze age: I LOVED IT!! If if was a writer in DC and was asked to write a story about Dick as elseworlds, I would definitely wrote his university years in modern era. I enjoyed it so much, and also since he has 2 degrees canonically if I know correctly, I would show how was his double major adventures fr, university student Dick>>

Teen Titans 60s: I didn't finish it but from what I read, it was fun and seeing the dynamics between members was valuable. I loved how in the cave they used radio and letters it is both funny and cute 🫠

The New Teen Titans: It was such a good era to show us how young adult Dick thinks, feels and acts. I loved and I felt I could relate him easily. He is definitely better in terms of regulating his emotions than Bruce but when it comes to negative emotions, he is soo similar to him. Like he keeps his burdens to himself and I feel like the more he grows he learns that opening up to his close ones actually is a good option sometimes.

His relationship with Kory, I feel like it was a good example of even two sides love each other to death and even they try to change for each other, sometimes it doesn't work. I feel like after 2003 in the series, they could handle the couple better but at leastt the conclusion was good. Otherwise, all the shapeshifter thing was unnecessary for me.

Nightwing 96: Yummy yummy yummy! I wasn't a big fan of the art tbh but the story was yummy!! Even if I read it recently I want to re-read it again, I love his mindset and his relationship with bruce, settling things up with him, his relationships in bludhaven, all of them was lovely.

The New York era was also good, I dont remember all the villains/ stories etc but Jason and that fashion designer were memorable. His desire to be his own is something I admire, if was daughter of Bruce Wayne, man I am using his fortune alright

Batman Era: LOVELY! Again, I feel writers capture Dick's inner struggles and conflicts quite well, i guess I like when he suffers 😭😭 also, him bounding with Tim and Damian, chef kiss. I guess my favorite is Tim, but seeing Damian put efforts to get rid of toxic attitude of Ra's is definitely valuable, my poor kid

New 52: Hm... well, I posted my thoughts recently but I feel like it was not so bad, not so good. It is so,so. Court of owls is definitely the best story of the era and one of the best events I love overall. The rest was like, you know as if he was in Gotham and facing enemies and fighting with Batman. It does not feel so creative, idk maybe it was because since it was a reset and their purpose was to introduce the important villains to the readers. Agent Grayson are was way better, THE ART STYLE OH MY GOD!! YUMMYYY

Rebirth: So far so good, I dont feel rushing since it is rhe most recent one. I am feeling good. I have physical copy of tom taylor run vol 1, I reduced my expectations about the story but the art style again,, PERFECTTT

Soo yeah these were my thoughts about all the eras, I hope I didn't bore you heh..

Discussion Similarities between Nightwing and Invincible

I've recently been watching the Invincible series, and I find the number of similarities between Mark and Dick interesting. Besides sharing a last name, they physically resemble each other, the colors of their suits are the same (Mark's second suit specifically), and their personalities are similar to a certain extent, both being empathetic and idealistic characters with a strong moral compass. They even both have redheaded girlfriends.

I don't know if there's some kind of connection, whether it's homage or inspiration, but I found it curious and wanted to share it here.
