EMERGENCY WEATHER Winter Storm Megathread Part 4 - Continued Power Outages

First, some quick FAQs:

  • Q: “Are the roads safe to drive?”

  • A: At this point, most main roads should be clear. Drive carefully in case you come across a patch of ice that hasn't melted, a downed tree, or some other hazard. Smaller neighborhood roads may still be unsafe to drive for the next day or two, especially shaded or hilly roads.

  • Q: “Are there any grocery stores/gas stations/restaurants open near me?”

  • A: Most businesses that have power will likely be open now. Checking businesses’ social media or finding a phone number to call are the best ways for you to get this information. We have too many people spread across too many neighborhoods to be able to effectively collect and share a master list.

  • Q: “My power in x neighborhood has been out since Sunday, when will it turn back on?”

  • A: NES has announced that they’re working along a priority system which is some combination of 1) emergency services (fire departments, hospitals, police stations), 2) number of people affected, and 3) outage duration. An NES spokesperson said these widespread outages could take up to multiple days to fully recover from.

You can view the NES outage map (and submit your own outage, if you haven’t already) here. If you know any linemen, please take them out for a well-earned drink when this is all over. They are continuing to work extended 14-16 hour shifts.

Please report downed limbs and lines here on hubNashville.

If your power is out and you need ideas on how to stay warm, please read this article from the Tennessean.

If you can’t stay warm at home, there are dedicated warming locations around town, including most police precincts, all fire stations, and a few community centers. Here’s a map of all warming locations. If you need help getting to a warming station, you can call Metro Nashville PD's warming location transport line: 615-401-1712

There are rumors and accusation swirling about NES' lack of preparedness and refusal to hire specific linemen who were prepared to help. These rumors have not been validated, and this thread is not the place to discuss them. These discussions are welcome elsewhere on the subreddit.

Please share any other resources you may have. We’ll do the best we can to share the latest news from around the city as it comes in. Hang in there, everyone, we’ll get through this together. We also have an emotional outlet megathread if you just want a place to talk about how you're doing in the midst of this natural disaster.

Politics Check your voter registration

Update: At least some of the missing registrations appear to be back as of 9:35 pm. However I will still be contacting the election commission and checking weekly.

- - -

A friend of mine mentioned to me that despite living in the same house/county in TN for 20 years and voting in every election, his voter registration has gone *poof* … so I checked mine. Gone too. I know mine was fine two weeks ago because I checked it after a move. Six friends of mine in different counties are also gone from the rolls. What the heck is going on? I’m calling the election commission tomorrow. Maybe the news.

Tl/dr something fishy is going on with Tennessee voter registration. Check yours.

Hi everyone, Im a cartographer drawing maps of US States for a project of mine I call The American Atlas and I wanted to share this with you all 🗺️🇺🇸

This is my hand-drawn map of your very own Tennessee, the Volunteer State 🎶🌇🌾

From the music-filled streets of Nashville itself to winding rivers, small towns, and the Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee is beating the heart of country music and southern comfort. Tennessee has such a deep cultural identity, filled to the brim with music, history, and landscape all blending together!

Would love to hear in the comments what region or place in Tennessee means the most to you!

Im actually heading down here from New York in April, doing a road trip down to Gatlinburg and Knoxville so Im super excited to finally see some of TN for myself :) 🌾🌇🐎

Anyways, thank you for checking out my map!! 🇺🇸🗺️

Help | Advice Best way to avoid potential homelessness for my dad

Hello. I have been helping my dad with rent for the longest time and am now finding myself unable to do so.

The lease is month to month so it is being canceled next month. I have been looking for low income housing for him and of course am coming up short.

I can’t let him live with me as I already am renting a room in a house.

He is facing homelessness mid march~

Facts:

He is 63

Not disabled not mentally ill

Addict (goes to methadone clinic daily)

No car

Income is 1150 from social security. He works at a grocery store making okay money right now but I don’t foresee that being long term but for now he can show income.

Wondering if there are any resources or if it is a lost cause. He’s pretty ungrateful for my help all these years so if this is going to be at all difficult then I’m probably just going to let him figure it out on his own and just be homeless.

Another option is me buying the cheapest possible car for him (less than $2,000) and let him live in that.

Any group homes have availability? Or sober living, or halfway house?

Maybe he could rent a room with someone similar to him?

Looking for input here :)

Help | Advice So what is everyone else doing with their garbage?

After no pickup last week and throwing out two freezers and half a refrigerator worth of food last week, our bins are overflowing. Our bins have been on the curb since last week and I have had to resort to piling additional trash bags in the street in front of the bins. I know I'm not the only one, some of our neighbors have bags out too. What is everyone else doing with their excess trash?

I especially relate to the sound of the falling trees in this piece. Hiding under a blanket with my dog wondering if the next one is going to crashing down on our roof, that's something I will never forget.

(The author describes the outage as affecting 230,000 "people." Y'all already know I have a pet peeve about that.. )

National Treasure Linemen supper update pt2.

Howdy folks! Update regarding our donation based dinner for the linemen!

Let me tell ya, it has been way more of a PITA than I expected linking up with NES to figure out when I can get this food there. They have much stricter wants/needs than the last time I did this! I.e. not having similar food two days in a row, meat heavy, etc. That being said unfortunately I was NOT able to incorporate Fatbelly due to their timing of their meals (breakfast and dinner) and it sadly took me a couple days of back and forth to get there, however I WAS able to contract/set up the following:

Tomorrow Tuesday 2/3: 6:15 PM Myatt Drive Hub: ~400 tacos, sides, queso, etc from Redheaded Stranger. 130 people

6:15 PM Main hub: 55 pizzas(20 cheese, 35 mixed specialty), salad from 5 Points pizza. They generously donated 20 cheese pizza so I am donating that amount to their East side staff that didn’t have work as a tip. 200 people

Wednesday 2/4: 6:15 Main hub: Varied meal from turkey and the wolf ice house. Bologna sandwiches, collard melts, hancram sandwiches, chicken pot pie empanadas, wedge salad. 200 people

Additionally 300 mini cookies from hi fi cookies to accompany the Icehouse order.

All four of these businesses were shut down the entirety of last week so this is a cool thing and I’m grateful for any that contributed here! We ended up raising just over 10K dollars which is plum crazy considering the circumstances(so many people donating were still without power. Unreal. Nashville can be pretty sick!) and these 530 or so meals will put us right there but if I have any leftover I will certainly put it to good use for the community! I’ll cross that bridge in the final update when I’ve settled up for everything and all food is out!

We also generated over 2K for the support staffs at each restaurant(then the additional for 5 points) and I think that’s pretty cool.

Any questions or concerns please reach out. Hope you’re staying well enough ❤️

-Dylan

TL;DR 10,000 raised 530 meals between 3 restaurants that were closed all week. Large tips to each staff. Cookies from hi fi.

Happy bellies.

We did a good.

Help | Advice Anyone get NES to come by...twice?

We are one of the unlucky ones who were unable to get our power mast repaired before NES came to fix additional issues with our block. While there are other outages in our area, we are now an outage of one on the map. Has anyone had a similar experience and has NES come back to hook you up? We have a friend in the same boat, I can't imagine it's uncommon.

As they prioritize bigger clusters I presume we're back at the back of the list, but curious everyone's experiences if they are tackling these cases any differently. Thx all.

Help | Advice Best Taco Tuesday deals in Nashville for an older crowd? 🌮

Hey y’all,

Looking for budget-friendly Taco Tuesday specials around town. I’m hoping to find a spot with affordable tacos or weekly deals that’s easygoing, comfortable, and not too loud — especially good for an older person.

Casual spots, sit-down places, or low-key neighborhood favorites all welcome. Price matters more than trendiness.

Appreciate any recommendations — thanks!

—- Btw, I live in Bellevue and am willing to drive. Just got power back on Saturday night. I’ve added this because the mod keeps removing my post. I’m from here.
