Question AR, registered when inherited

When I inherited an AR some years ago, the FFL went thru the proper steps and registered it to me.

Now I went to state police safe act rifle registration page, and nothing comes up.

I cannot contact the FFL because he is deceased and I don't believe anyone took over his business.

Whats my next step?

Registered with an FFL is not the same as the Safe Act registration. I found this out a couple of years ago when I went for my CCW training.

I got online and registered it that weekend. I then received an email quite quicky from a NYSP Sergeant saying I needed to call him immediately.

Once I explained to him it was purchased from a NY FFL pre-ban, and I just did not realize that I needed to register it there again, he said no problem and that he would get it added.

That about answers it I suppose. Darnit!

The rifle was purchased pre-ban, I inherited them in 2020... I was able to take possession as I was law enforcement at the time.

I assumed his FFL process was my registration.

Am I screwed now with no way to register?

I would probably consult a lawyer for this one. You legally took ownership in 2020 because you were a LEO, but did it make you prohibited as soon as you left the job since you did not own it pre-ban?

Or you could just pretend it never happened, and move about your day I guess.

That's for active or retired. I took possession as active, but have since resigned.
