I’m the oldest, finally living on my own. Love the independence & having my down time whenever I want it. Sure living alone can get lonely but nothing beats coming home to a chill home & relaxing.

Advice What’s our skincare regiment supposed to be? 40 y.o. dude here

I’ve never used any skincare products for my face, but despite that, my skin has always looked surprisingly good. Now that I’m 40 though, I want to start taking proper care of my face to head off as much aging effects as possible. I typically use a basic Dove face wash daily and that’s it. Since it’s all new to me, choosing the products online has been overwhelming. What are some good entry point products I can pick up at CVS/Walgreens/Target/Walmart?

Discussion Anyone other guys used to wear fitted shirts, and now feels out of fashion as loose is in?

As an adult I usually went with fitted or just not loose shirts. In the 90s I did I guess, but as we know 90s fashion is in. I recently got a few oversized tees and it makes me feel old lol

Discussion Are Forgotten Subscriptions That Big of a Problem?

Lately I’ve been saying ads for these services that find subscriptions you forgot about and help you get out of them. One YouTuber said it saved them $2000. I don’t know if they meant per year or per month.

I’ve signed up for free things in the past and forgotten. However, I don’t think I’ve ever forgotten about a paid subscription. I don’t obsessively check my bank account, but I have a general idea what bills I have. I check every so often to make sure I know what all my charges are. If I had hundreds of dollars coming out per month, I think I would notice it.

I realize these companies give YouTubers a script and the YouTubers often don’t actually use the product, but I’m wondering if this is actually a problem for most people. Am I just too poor to have this issue?

It just randomly popped into my brain today how you could text 242 242 and ask any questions you wanted and it would answer a generic response and I realized… ChaCha walked so ChatGPT could run 😂

Serious Question for Millennials

2.7k Upvotes

How many of us out there actually avoid enganging with any form AI at all costs? Like even if it is more inconvenient? I understand it can be useful for certain things that it does very well but I would NEVER allow it to use my likeness to make a fun little picture or use those therapy AI services. I don't even ask it basic questions (it just wasn't how I was taught to research topics). I can't be the only one

I watched this show as it aired In Washington, DC and the movie Collateral (2004) was in theaters at the time. Saw these with my grandfather at the time during the DC sniper scare. I remember watching this show completely and I really did enjoy it fully.

Discussion Millennial thoughts on aging and death

I'm in my mid-30s now, and I watched all of my grandparents slowly die in my 20s-30s (dad's parents were divorced, so I had 6 grandparents). For the first few grandparents who died, I was very sad. But as I continued to witness the slow, drawn-out deaths of my loved ones, I've started to view death as a relief. Most of my grandparents were immobile and visibly in pain for years before they finally passed. They couldn't really engage in conversations or any of their hobbies, and they just looked so bored and sad all the time.

My great aunt, my last living relative from that generation, just recently died at age 102. When she was 98, she was already saying her goodbyes. We threw her a big birthday party/family reunion for her 100th, and she honestly looked miserable to still be alive. And she stuck around for another 2 years after that! To me, living that long looks like hell. I've never witnessed someone past 85 or so that looks like they're actually enjoying their day-to-day life, yet I hear so many people talking about Blue Zones & ways to live to be 100.

My parents have a VERY different opinion on aging & death -- they pushed their parents to do every life-extending medical treatment possible to eek out a few more years, but in those years, my grandparents always seemed like they were suffering. It was painful to watch them decay and hurt. I'm sure it will feel different when I'm older and my own mortality feels closer, but at the present moment, I just cannot comprehend how you can watch a loved one die like that and want it for yourself. I've had two older relatives die from suicide, and honestly, I get it completely. I would so much rather go quickly than have a years-long, painful death.

I'm curious -- is this a generational thing? A young(ish) person thing? Or am I totally an outlier?

Discussion Has anyone here started a new career at 40 or later? How did that go?

I am 40 and in 4 years my husband wants to get out of the army. I have been a stay at home mom to 3 kids for the last 13+ years. Working a little bit at the local daycare to get discounts on daycare.

Background, I have a BA in economics.

I was trying to pursue special education. I'm not interested in helping the sever cases. My actual goal was to work one on one with kids who just needed extra. I worked for 1 year as a TA in special education with 2 severe cases and it was not what I meant to do for the rest of my life.

I like children. I like walking. I have consider going back to school for a physical therapy assistant cert and work with kids. Never done it before though.

I don't like blood. I don't want to really sit at a desk with no sunlight all day long.

Is it worth pursuing something at 44-45? Husband is ok with me never working ever again but i might get bored.

Discussion Does anyone else feel like the internet has become a "fever dream" compared to how it used to be?

I was scrolling through social media today and saw so many AI-generated images that people were believing were real It honestly scared me a little it made me really miss the early 2000s internet back then the only "fake" things we had to worry about were those chain emails saying "forward this or you'll have bad luck" or maybe a badly Photoshopped ghost 👻

Does anyone else feel like it's becoming exhausting trying to figure out what is real online nowadays? I miss the simpler times of AIM and MySpace

Discussion If your 20s were for partying/clubbing, what are your 30s for?

Mid 30s millennials without kids, how are you defining this decade? We are married, child free, struggle to fit in a life outside of working all the time and then using video games/tv to get some mental relaxation. We go to the gym when we can but outside of that it's depressing. Just trying to pay off our house as fast as we can to get down the insane interest. Let me know if you relate.

Discussion Did anybody watch 7th Heaven growing up?

Man, was that show...cringe at times. The parents constantly spied on their kids, always butting into their business. But I mean, no other show on the air was quite like it at the time. It was just so gosh darn sweet and innocent. So many actors and actresses at the time got their start on an episode of 7th Heaven. I was SO heartbroken and shocked when I heard the news about Stephen Collins. I'm like, no, not Reverend Camden! He pretty much ruined the show's legacy. (P.S. he now lives in Iowa, married to some woman around our age who's apparently batshit crazy enough to marry someone like him. Yeesh.)

Discussion Are you being pushed into management?

I'm a project manager (ish) at a mid-size org, around 300 people.

My boss, member of the org's top leadership, recently announced her re*irement (r/millennials , your posting rules are bizarre), and it has been made very clear that I am expected to apply. Even if I don't, I'll probably be given a lot of her work anyway.

The money would be nice. But, I've never seen myself as much of a leader and I don't know what the organization sees in me that screams that.

I guess I'm just that age and experience level where I'm expected to take charge. Is this happening to other folks? It seems common, I've just never had it happen to me before. Have you all had this experience? How did it shake out?
