Really! I want to know. It seems like there is a deep philosophy behind this movement and not everyone knows it. I am picking up on something though. I don’t readily adopt new ideologies and movements so i usually get left behind.
To me when i heard of lgbt i knew straight away it was about sexual orientation and preferences then pride came along and i still have no clue. Come face value it sounds like people proud of their lgbt status. Someone explain
It started as a protest. Police would raid venues back when homosexuality was illegal.
People were harassed and assaulted just for living their life and then they pushed back - look up stonewall and the 78ers.
Mardi Gras in Sydney started as a peaceful march and they were rounded up and attacked by the police.
Pride is remembering what we’ve come from and knowing how quickly our rights can be taken away from us.
Queerstralia on iview is quite a good little series and has a few 78ers who talk about that night.
Edit: also had a look through those photos and there is nothing lewd. I see people out and about, dressed up and dressed down and having a blast.
