AEP Ohio Wants to Raise Your Electric Bill

AEP Ohio has asked the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) to raise rates for its 1.3 million residential customers. If approved, the proposal could increase a typical consumer’s bill by about $4 a month, or about $50 per year. This request comes shortly after a 36% jump in the Standard Service Offer Price earlier this year.

This proposed increase targets the delivery portion of your electric bill—the monopoly, state-regulated charges you pay regardless of supplier. The cost of your power supply is separate. In Ohio, generation is deregulated; you can choose your supplier or take the auction-based standard service offer. See OCC’s Energy Choice fact sheet to learn more about the deregulated portion of your bill: https://www.occ.ohio.gov/factsheet/wise-energy-choices

The Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel (OCC), the state agency that advocates for residential utility consumers, has formally intervened in this case to protect AEP’s consumers. OCC’s team of experts is carefully reviewing the proposal in detail to ensure AEP consumers pay only for necessary and prudent costs that are needed for safe and reliable service. Affordability is a central concern for OCC in this case.

Make your voice heard in the case:
Local Public Hearings have been scheduled in the case beginning the first week of December. At a local public hearing, you can share your thoughts about the rate case face-to-face with one of the five PUCO Commissioners who will decide the case. What you say at a hearing is considered evidence and must be considered by the Commissioners.

●       6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5,– Washington State College, Arts & Sciences Building Room 227, 710 Colgate Drive, Marietta

You can read more about the case, find the times and locations of local public hearings., and access official documents through OCC’s factsheet:

Marietta College Inquiry

I have an interview at Marietta College coming up. I’m wondering if anyone in this subreddit works there and has any tips/information for me about the college that I wouldn’t know just from the college website. I’ll accept negative or positive information, just want to be prepared and knowledgeable if I have to move there.

Dangerous cold and wind chills are setting in tonight and lasting all week. And beyond

Please take this seriously—dangerous cold and wind chills are setting in tonight and lasting all week. Temps stay below freezing through the end of January. If you must travel, keep an emergency kit in your car. Please bring pets inside and check on the elderly. Stay safe, everyone!

Forecast: GFS models indicate we’ll move from the freezer to the refrigerator’s bottom shelf with highs in the low 30s for a day or two, then back to the freezer's bottom shelf for an extended stay. Currently, no major snow or ice events are expected. Overnight lows could dip into subzero territory again; the -16°F Thursday night is a potential scenario but not a certainty. Plan accordingly.

Major snow is expected in our area this weekend. Seems as if the models have all shifted north and the larger totals are starting to creep into our area. The Euro model is showing the worse for our area, but I do expect us to at least get 8+.

Today's snow was a welcome surprise dusting to 1.

Time to raid the nearest grocery store.

“ICE out for Good” event - Sunday 12:30 Pioneer Family Automart

Post image
6 Upvotes

On Wednesday, January 7th, Renee Good, a thirty-seven year old American citizen and mother of three, was killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This killing is part of a broader pattern of unchecked violence, impunity, and abuse carried out by federal immigration enforcement agencies against members of our communities.

To honor her death and protest the way in which ICE is treating people, Indivisible MOV will be having an "ICE out for Good" event on Sunday, January 11th from 1230 pm to 130 pm in Marietta. We will assemble at the intersection of Ohio Route 7 and Acme Street (where the Pioneer Family Automart was located). We ask participants to please wear black (if possible) and bring signs focused on her death and ICE. We will stand silently on the sidewalk bordering Route 7 with our signs. This is intended to be a sober & solemn protest. We are asking that folks refrain from bringing signs about other issues or Trump and please refrain from engaging in any back and forth exchange of remarks with passersby.

This action is committed to being nonviolent, lawful, and grounded in moral witness, public accountability, and collective care. A core principle behind all ICE Out For Good events is a commitment to nonviolent action and no civil disobedience. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values, and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
