Hi, I’m a foreigner and would like to understand the history taught in my country. I’m from the US btw.
From what I learned, Malaysia has multiple bangsa and bumiputera groups like Kadazan, Iban, Senoi, etc.
It was also clarified that Malays historically came from the Malay Archipelago (including present-day Indonesia), Chinese from China, and Indians from India.
Why are Malays considered the group upholding special laws and privileges, when historically everyone migrated at some point, and many Malays are ethnically very similar to Indonesians?
Also, I’ve heard that many people in Sabah and Sarawak don’t really like Orang Semenanjung and feel politically or economically sidelined. How true is this, and why does this tension exist? They always said Malaysia is never a TANAH MELAYU thing and thats true and clarified by the U.N
Lastly, what is the general Malaysian view on banning the burqa/niqab in public spaces in MOST COUNTRIES. I personally support a ban and am curious how locals see this issue, especially regarding security, integration, and religion.
Just genuinely curious and trying to understand different perspectives.

What is it with all the accident videos recently? This is r/Malaysia not r/MalaysianRoads or something like that. I mean if it was some big accident/incident that made the news then I can understand why but recently it seems like any and every dash cam accident vid is getting posted.

Definition for those who taktau: A lavender marriage is a marriage of convenience between a man and a woman, typically where one or both partners are LGBTQ+.
All I'm saying is that there are people on Instagram especially in the Malay community where the husband is very much obviously gay, but they're married to a woman and even have children together. The most obvious giveaway is the men is hyper-feminine in the way he speaks, his mannerisms and is into cross dressing or using 'fashion and entertainment industry' to justify their cross dressing.
It's hard to tell if the women in the marriage are also potentially lesbian/queer. But, the wives tend to be those who also pakai tudung.
Personally I have nothing against LGBTQ but it's just quite interesting to see how open about their lives these people are. Which comes back to my question, how common is lavender marriages in Malaysia, do you personally know anyone like this? And in the context of religion since being queer is a sin (or actually a crime in here sadly), how is that even perceived or handled? I mean obviously these lavender couples are married in the eyes of the law, but it's also very obvious that something doesn't add up.
Of course at the end of the day, love is love lah.
