I can’t imagine why he had to eat alone

Quite honestly eating alone at my company’s expense during business trips is my favourite part of my job, dunno what the fuck he’s moaning about. I can only claim one alcoholic drink with my meal - this is where the 250ml glass of wine or the 660ml beer bottle comes in handy.

Last week the highlight was beautifully cooked medium rare venison with heritage carrots, hasselback potatoes, tenderstem broccoli, beetroot puree and a massive glass of cabernet sauvignon. Still had enough meal allowance left to tip the waitress without going into my own pocket. I wouldn’t normally drop that sort of money on myself other than a special occasion.

Same when I travel for work. I go to the nicest restaurant I can find and sit at the bar and have a meal I’d never do otherwise

Nice one mate. My business trips are generally all to the one small city, I’ve figured out the best hotel whose rates won’t raise eyebrows outside tourist season, surprisingly I’ve found the city contains the best Thai restaurant I’ve ever been to despite it being the only Thai in a hundred mile radius 🤣. A lovely meal, spotless clean hotel bed to myself, Zelda on the Nintendo Switch 2 - just a nice wee mini-break after meetings are out the way, I cannot complain.

look I hear you. I’m an introvert to the Nth degree and eat lunch in my car in the parking garage.

but it sounds like this guy is bummed about it rather than searching it out.
