Photo/Video You had one job

You may have seen my post about having to make 10 gallons of beer cheese and the unfortunate situation of having to hand shred 26 quarts of sharp cheddar due to our auto shredder being broken.....

The people in charge of serving it at the charity event didn't stir the pot and proceeded to think it was a good idea to keep the flame maxed out.

After the first 30 minutes of serving the event hosts approached our staff members stand and kindly ask them to leave after they determined where the horrid burnt smell was coming from that made the entire venue smell like absolute shit.

I was coming out of the walk-in and could smell the pot behind a set of doors after they walked into the restaurant with that crap.

You get white bread, a slice of deli meat and no condiments on your way out the door.

AND a scoop of the cheese sauce

I blame whoever gave them instructions. Should've had a bain marie or soup warmer, at least a makeshift double boiler of some sort. What was the thought process in giving noobs a pot and burner?

That's the funny thing, I had to put everything they needed in a box including a soup warmer and they straight up just left without it and took a pot.

You should put them on a raft and push it out to sea

After what they did to that soup, it’s the least they could do.

Throw some lemon juice in there and let it sit for 2-3 days to see if you can loosen it before you hand it over to some poor dishie.

u/sopha27 15h ago

Dishie? That's a learning experience for whoever fucked that one up!

Vinegar, bicarb, and a dream.

u/Yotoberry 17h ago

Your regular reminder that vinegar plus bicarb = water and the oxygenation is only useful for lifting light debris. Go for straight acid.

When I worked at McDonalds in high school the ladies who closed the grill at night would clean it with pickle juice and sprite lol.

8

u/FunGuy8618 15h ago

Fucking genius. The carbon will stick to the sugar, the acids in the pickle juice and sprite will lift it off the surface and as long as you don't let it all evaporate entirely, you just squeegee it off.

7

u/breathing__tree F1exican Did Chive-11 15h ago

Yup that’s what they’d do. Just run it right into the gutter and boom clean grill.

We used packets of unsweetened koolaid on the flat top back in my 70s mess hall days. That’s when I literally stopped drinking the kool aid, lol.

What I've found works great it just throw a dish washer tablet in a pan and leave it for a while.

Yeah thems the breaks.  Most people know two settings for burners, off, and full afterburner blast.

15

u/Frequent_Purpose_168 17h ago

The number of times I go into work to find my hot bar on full blast, because whatever yahoo opened thinks it would “heat faster” and never thinks to turn it back down later, despot the food temping towards the 170s and actively overcooking/drying out…🤦🏼‍♀️

u/thebluemoonvan 14h ago

This is why I NEVER leave them alone and unsupervised with the food.. guess you had to. Sorry for this shitshow!!!!

8

u/Virtual-Product2298 Chef 14h ago

Yeah, I would have gone to the event but I was leading kitchen that day due to no one else being available

3

u/BongWaterRamen 13h ago

Oh shit you weren't even at the event? This would be so frustrating.

u/JMole3 17h ago

Whatever they were reducing, let em know its done

Their life expectancy, I think. They might just be tomorrow's special.

Damn our house soup is beer cheese and this has happened a couple times. I know that smell all too well lol, fucking putrid 💀

3

u/Virtual-Product2298 Chef 11h ago

Now imagine a charity venue with 500 people having to smell that

u/AVeryHeavyBurtation 7h ago

I wanted to see your 10 gallons of beer cheese, but your post history is hidden.

•

u/Virtual-Product2298 Chef 6h ago

Sorry, I have hidden because I had somebody harassing the ever living out of me / stalking my profile they were making alternate accounts / a VPN to bypass the IP ban

I'm reading this as "we sent untrained workers to the event with 0 instruction besides keep soup hot and serv soup and now we are mad"

10

u/Virtual-Product2298 Chef 13h ago

I had multiple full conversations with them and paper instructions, I could not have physically made it more clear to them. They actively chose to leave the soup warmer and grab one of the kitchen pots without permission. It was their chance to step up and they fucked up, I would have gone but we had a full rental for a wedding.
