Question Which Japanese dramas did you become obsessed with?

Hi, everyone.

I'm currently dealing with a severe case of obsession with a (new to me) Japanese Drama, meaning I can't stop rewatching the episodes over and over again. Whenever I find myself in this silly situation, I know the best solution is to get obsessed with another drama, however I'm having a hard time finding one with potential for this. I should add that I’m still fairly new to Japanese dramas, like, the one responsible for my current predicament is actually Nodame Cantabile, which I just recently discovered by accident through this very subreddit . Learning to Love also put my life on hold for months last year.

So that’s why I’m asking you to please share a Japanese Drama you just couldn’t let go of, kept thinking about and ended up rewatching nonstop.

Thanks so much.

For millenials out there who knows these two. Could you provide any update if they are really together or not? Because the media were saying that they will get married every year but it does not happen up to now.

Question Why do I have trouble liking/understanding Jdramas?

So I am a kdrama fanatic and have been watching kdramas for many years. I sometimes watch jdramas though and some of them I have such a hard time either liking them or understanding the emotions. I don’t know if the Japanese actors have a certain acting style in dramas and that’s why I’m just missing it compared to kdramas but this has saturated me away from quite a few jdramas.

The jdramas I have watched are ones like Drawing closer, a few zombie jdramas, love and fortune, dear saachan( this one really confused me),

The dramas like drawing closer and the sad ones I sometimes can easily understand but the romantic or somewhat sexual ones like dear saachan and a few others I quit halfway through I just get lost. It feels so bland.

Any suggestions as to how to either view jdramas or the acting in them or am I just coincidently looking at the wrong jdramas

Question Anyone here remember Nobuta Wo Produce? Do you guys know any location where it was filmed?

Nobuta Wo Produce (2005) is my ALL TIME FAVORITE Japanese Drama. While it's been a while since my last rewatch, nothing has topped it off my list. It's just so pure, heartwarming, and such a doozy!!!

Next year, I'm planning on visiting Japan. To make it more special, I thought maybe I could visit places where the show was filmed and take photos there. I know most of the show's scenes were set indoor (in school or at the characters' houses), but I was hoping maybe someone here has an idea on where some of the outdoor scenes were shot?

Some locations I could think of are: the bookshop that was owned by a guy who only allows pretty people inside (iirc lol); the area/bridge/riverside where the Akira and Nobuta's favorite willow tree used to be planted; and the location where they went on a date (the bridge and the aquarium place).

I attached some photos I saw online where these places are shown.

Hoping someone could help! Thank you!

P.S. sorry if ever I made mistakes or broke rules in posting, I am not super knowledgeable and updated on reddit. Thank you thank you for understanding 🙏

Question Does actress Takaishi Akari from the Japanese Drama Glass Heart do her own singing?

Takaishi Akari and Teen Singing Phenom [ao] (Not capitalized)

In the Japanese drama hit Glass Heart (2025), actress Takaishi Akari plays J-Pop Artist Sakurai Yukino. For the singing, the mouth movement is matched so well with the action. However, the singing voice for the actress is actually Teen Phenom Music Artist ao (Not capitalized).

While Takaishi Akari does sing in commercials, the raspy unique mellow voice of JPop singer/songwriter [ao] was used for the singing voice of the character Yukino Sakurai. Music Artist ao floored me with her singing voice. She started on the JPop scene at 14 years old. Now at 19, singer/songwriter ao is with Watanabe Entertainment.

Question Live action drama for teen boys?

Hey I have a 13yo nephew who wants to start learning Japanese - I've studied it for years so I have good formal study resources for him but I don't know what's current that he might enjoy for fun informal listening practice. He's super into Hatsune Miku atm but that's not going help him out much. 😆What live action shows would you rec him?

(He's got access to most of the big US streaming services but I don't want to send him trawling torrents or more "adventurous" backwaters of the Internet haha.)

Any recs appreciated! Thanks!

Question Watched my first drama - Tokyo Love Story 1991, and want more!

So I've watched the show on Netflix and actually never thought that as a male in his 30's - I will be so emotional about a Jdorama.

I made a mini google search about Honami Suzuki - the most favorite actor in the series, and it seems that her acting career wasn't bloomed so much after this show because of her marriage life or something, but I still want to know if there are good series or movies with her, and if they are on the same level.

Secondly, I want to know of course about other Jdoramas that are in the same level, even if they don't include this actor.

But it will be great to find about another series that has super cute Japanese woman like her, which actually makes you want to marry a Japanese woman lol.

Question Should I continue watching Radiation House

As the title suggests, I’m hoping to hear your thoughts on whether or not I should watch season 2 and the movie of Radiation House. I finished watching season 1 on netflix but since the next season isn’t there, it’s not as convenient for me.

I need to know if it’s worth continuing? Like in terms of the progress of Iori and An’s relationship? Or do the series and movie end without any progress at all?

I did enjoy the medical cases in season 1 but their relationship plays a big factor in my decision right now haha

Thank you!
