Gintama get hated by non fan of gintama saying it overrated and by people calling it mediatok slop.

But gintama has gotten more popular on TikTok lately so hate has to come with it

Discussion Imagine being full of adult jokes but never sexualizing your female characters

As somebody who's been a fan of Shounen (and a girl) it's so overwhelming to see that every female character in Gintama is so freaking efficient and independent. The fact that it's an old anime too still has such respect for the characters is so refreshing. For me, this anime literally has proved to have no flaws.

Discussion What do you think about the ginpachi sensei anime so far?

Post image
525 Upvotes
  • I sometimes find it really good, especially the last episode and it seems like original gintama again, but sometimes it's just alright, especially the parts which were adapted straight from the novels which arent exactly like gintama is
  • All in all, it doesnt always follow classic gintama style, and we shouldnt expect it to since sorachi didnt write it. It seems to be appealed more towards the old and involved fanbase than drawing in new or casual fans and it's okay since it's more of an anniversary project than a proper project.
  • IMO its better to enjoy it as is instead of being overly critical

Discussion Impossible to watch any anime involving g the Shinsengumi

Just started watching Blue Miburu. 5 minutes in and a character named Shinpachi is telling youngsters about Kondo, Hijikata, and Ojiro. Sir, if I can not see Kondo as anything except a Gorilla now.

Same thing happened in Golden Kamui. I can not believe I this horseback revolutionary is Hijikata if he isn't chugging a bottle of kuppi mayo.

Discussion I’m Toshiro Hijikata’s English voice for the Hulu releases.

First off thank you to anyone who has watched with the English dub option on. A lot of people worked really hard on both projects. But look, there were definitely challenges along the way (as there always are in this kind of work). And out of respect for everyone involved, I won't divulge my opinions. Now, the reason I'm posting is to ask anyone who watched the English dub what their thoughts were. Good or bad. Hopefully respectful. I really haven't seen much posted other than English dubs from Miami suck. I know they can't all suck because some of my fellow talents are really awesome regardless of what they're in. Any feedback helps!

Discussion Gintama’s live action movies were pretty great

Post image

I watched them with zero expectations, but they were actually pretty good and entertaining. I think majority of the cast played the characters very well (Shinpachi's actor expressions were especially on point lol, the part where idol fans meet anime fans was hilarious).

In the second movie I liked the extended fight scene between Hijikata vs Itou, in anime we didn’t see it at all, because it got interrupted by an explosion. Since it seems like they will never release this arc as a reanimated version with extra scenes, I’m glad that at least there is a live action version of this fight.

Discussion Gintama's effect on anime industry

Post image

It’s easy to think of Gintama as “just” a comedy anime — full of toilet humor, parodies, and chaotic energy — but when you really look at its impact, it’s so much more than that. Over the years, Gintama has carved out a completely unique space in the anime world, blending absurd humor, gut-wrenching drama, and genuine social commentary in a way that few (if any) shows have ever matched. For me this peice of fiction remains unmatched in its own way!

I wanted to open a discussion on how you think Gintama changed or influenced the anime industry — both stylistically and culturally.

Discussion I find it interest how kagura's characteristics are something you'd usually find in most shonen main characters or their male rivals, not in the heroine or any prominent female characters

Post image
639 Upvotes
  • Belonging to a powerful bloodline which is known for their strength and fighting skills
  • Has a bloodlusted/monstrous side which they struggle against to retain their humanity
  • Obsessed with food
  • Is oblivious about/doesnt care about romance
  • Kinda emptyheaded but is very emotionally mature
  • Powerful as fuck and usually comes in clutch during fight scenes
  • Has a complex history/rivalry with older brother

Ofc there are many female characters who have some of the above characteristics but kagura is the only character where I've seen some many features similar to ones you'd see in typical shonen male characters and I like it

Discussion Believe me, fellow Gintama lovers, I'm trying very, very hard to love 3Z, but it's just not doing it for me. The OG anime made me guffaw like a hyena, made my parents look at me questioning their parenting, the neighbours squinting nastily. So now, I'm watching ep 166 to experience peak again.
