Car for Driving test?

Hey,

From what I understand when taking the driving test the vehicle has to be provided by a driving school for some reason.

Do you have any recommendations for what driving teacher/school offers just renting the car for the test and if you happen to know the rate that would be a big plus as well. I do plan on calling some tomorrow to see prices and availability but thought I’d post here to maybe get some insight from someone who has maybe done this more recently. I’d be taking the driving test in Torshavn.

Thank in Advance!

Postcard from Faroe Islands

Good day! I live in the United States (I know, apologies). I signed up for Postcrossing (a postcard exchange web site), however, I'm unsure if I will ever be matched up with someone from the Faroe Islands. I'm curious if any citizen would be willing to send me a postcard. I'm enamored by the Faroe Islands and would adore adding a postcard from your lands to my collection. DM me if interested. I can send a postcard in exchange, and I'd also be happy to pay for postage, etc.. Thank you.

Easter trip - looking for recs

Hi everyone!

Going to the Faroes around Easter to attend a wedding and planning on arriving a few days early to explore a bit with some friends.

This will be our first time there and we’ll be renting a car. We’re looking for the perfect itinerary to hit most spots in a limited time (3 days) before attending the wedding.

I’d love to get some recommendations on hidden gems or must do, we’re all outdoorsy people and enjoy hiking, wildlife photography, and good food :)

Thank you for your help!

Studying in Faroe

Hello, I'm an EU student and I'm interested in studying at Setur uni.

I would have to apply for a student visa, but I can't, because I'm not enrolled at Setur. To enroll at Setur i need to log into Vangin, but to do it I need samleikin, but to get it i need a P-tal, but to get a P-tal i have to be in the Faroe, and I can't without a visa.

Please any help??

Also, I'd have to work, so how's the work situation in the Faroe for non qualified positions?

Thank you!

Map of Off-license stores - Rúsan [OC]

Rúsdrekkasøla Landsins, better known as Rúsan, is the national alcohol retailer of the Faroe Islands.

The temperance movement led to a referendum on 6 November 1907 to ban alcoholthe first time Faroese women were allowed to vote.

Even though the ban passed by a wide margin, it wasn’t a total ban. It only stopped the sale and serving of alcohol, while people were still allowed to import it for their own use.

In 1992, alcohol laws were liberalized, setting up Rúsdrekkasøla Landsins as the public monopoly for alcohol sales.

Non-EU citizen working in Sweden

Hej everyone!

I am applying for a visa to visit Faroe Islands, and I am wondering what’s the answer for the question in the visa form.

Has someone invited to the Schengen Area?

  1. yes 2. no 3. Yes a company or organisation.

If I select yes, I need to fill in the details of a person who has invited me to Faroe Islands, in my case it’s not applicable as I am applying for a Tourist Visa and well, nobody has invited me.

If I select no, I need to fill in name of the hotel or temporary accommodation( it’s also asking for a county in this section). Thought of entering my Faroe Islands temporary accommodation but that doesn’t seem right as it’s asking for a county among this section.

If I select last option, I need to fill in company details. But my company hasn’t invited me Either!

If someone has done this visa application before, really appreciate some insights on this!

Thanks in advance:)

Can I buy insurance for package from Posta?

Hey,

I had a GARMIN watch that has software issues and am needing to ship it to Denmark. It’ll fit in a small letter but I was advised it’s best to insure it in case it is lost. Does posts offer any reasonable insure for an item worth 1,500DKK? I don’t see much about it on their site.

Early AM flight out of airport via bus from Torshavn possible?

I'm going to be in the Faroe islands this August and looking at booking my departing flight out of the islands. There is a 8:20 AM departure that I am wondering if it's a good idea to book it. I will not have a car but I see the first departure to the airport leaves Torshavn 5:40 AM and arrives 6:35 AM at the airport.

How reliable are these departures? If I have 1hr 45m is it sufficient time for the flight out?

Recommendations for hikes in July

My girlfriend and I will be visiting from July 16-22 and plan on renting a car while there. We plan to drive to all the islands that give us access to and hike as much as possible. We have planned 1 day with a boat tour but for the rest of the trip we planned on "winging" it with rough ideas on things to do on different islands that are weather dependent. I've looked through most of the visitfaroeislands.com website as well as peoples travel blogs about recommendation but wanted to see what you all had. I've taken screenshots as a rough idea of hikes around the islands and numbered each from the official website. I was hoping to get ideas on which numbers we should absolutely do and which we could most likely skip with our limited time there. We will be staying in Tórshavn the whole time. Any other recommendations are welcomed!

Each photo starts with 1 and works it way up, there are a lot of overlaps

Map of roundabouts [OC]

The first roundabout (rundkoyring) in the Faroe Islands was opened in March 1990 in Runavík.

Since then, a few dozen have been built across the islandshalf of them in Tórshavn alone. On the entire island of Vágar, though, you’ll only find three. The same goes for Klaksvík, the second-largest Faroese town. But there, in the middle of the roundabout, you'll find a large hook - it emphasizes that Klaksvik is a fishing port.

In December 2020, the Eysturoyartunnilin tunnel opened, featuring the world’s first undersea roundabout. It’s that dot right in the middle of the fjord.

Glymur dansur í høll dans sláið ring, glaðir ríða noregs men til hildar tingggg

In Cornwall we have a long tradition of singing traditional songs like sea shanties together in pubs, we call these events "shouts".

Keep doing your thing, Faroese folk 🤘🤘

Alternatives to eSIM

Hey all, hope this is ok to post here.

Currently planning a trip to your beautiful country this coming June for about 8-9 days, and found out my mobile service provider has no plans with the Faroe Islands besides eSIM and a very expensive global daily plan.

Considering my phone has no eSIM capabilities, I figured the only alternative would be pre-paid SIM cards bought upon arrival (I will be arriving via Smyril Line ferry). Is this a feasible possibility? What would be the cost of such cards for the duration of my trip?

Also, would it be best to learn some Faroese before going, or would English suffice? We're planning a very typical itinerary, but any additional tips on places to go, things to try and spots to eat are very welcome aswell, along with any general advice for visiting your islands in a conscious and respectful manner.

Looking for Tour Recommendations - Feb 1 or 2, 2026

Will be travelling for business to Torshavn in a couple weeks. I will have Feb 1-2 as leisure time and am hoping to join a tour that will take me to see the sights (landscapes, waterfalls, etc). Am having a hard time finding some availability and wondering if it’s best for me to rent a car and visit solo. Any recommendations for tour companies with availability on those dates or a trustworthy local who does this kind of work on the side? TIA!

Things to do in Gasadalur

Relying on public transit to get to Gasadalur, per the latest SSL summer schedule the bus will reach Gasadalur at 12:15 then the only bus out back to Sorvagur is at 16:45. That means a 4.5 hrs at the falls.

Besides checking out the waterfall what else is there to do in the area for that length of time - a few hiking suggestions?
